College

Classes start September 1st for me, I'm pretty excited to start off new but I'm also nervous too. I'm not living on campus, I'm just gonna commute since it's only about 25 minutes from where I live. My first year I'm going to a community college to save money & get my basics out of the way & then my second year I'm going to transfer to a university. I'm going to major in Nursing then eventually work my way up to a Nurse Anesthetist. (:

Hilary, what do you want to study? It's a shame your parents won't support you. /:

Oh no idea! I've been thinking anywhere from Polisci to Business.
They're mad about that too :P
My mother is more supportive than my dad, but my dad is all 'What's wrong with a university in the Maritimes?'
I mean I get that it is kind of a waste of money to go away to probably end up coming back here, but I want to do it for the experience. My dad only seems willing to let me go away if I get a good internship like my brother did.
It's kind of frustrating.

How does college/university differ between the USA/Canada and the UK? One thing i've noticed is that you take only one subject in the UK, or you can do two subjects together, but you don't learn the full thing, if that makes sense. At least, that's what i've noticed with the universities I looked at.

I move back in on August 26th! I'm soooo pumped to go back, I miss everything about college (even the classes!).

I'm a Journalism/International Affiars dual major with a minor in French.

This coming semester I have... English 419 (Intro to Lit Analysis), Anthropology 412 (Adventures in Archaeology), Classics 401 (Classical Mythology), and History 617 (the Vietnam War). It's going to be weird being in mostly 400-level classes this semester, since my last was almost all 500 and above (English 401 was the exception). These are all GenEds (evil, vile things, GenEds) except for Lit Analysis, that's a major required course.

Classes start August 30th and end December 10th.

I move into my apartment on August 14th, band starts the 16th, and classes start the 23rd (24th for me since I have no classes on Monday :D)

I'm kind of excited to go back, but then again I'm not. I've been taking a summer class at my local community college and it's SOOO much easier than what I'd have to take at my regular college, so I'm not ready to go back to the hard work xD. I've been spoiled with these easy classes. Also, I've gotten used to living at home again, and it's always hard to leave, but after a day or so away from home I'm perfectly happy. Plus, I'm really happy that I won't have my horrible roommate anymore, so going back will be much better than it was last year!

My insurance is more than my conditional offer... I thought at the time it was around the same amount of points as my conditional (240-280) but when I checked afterwards, it as actually 2 Bs and an A... I don't really want to go to my insurance anyway.

Thats great, if you need less points to go to your first choice because your more likely to get into the place you want :)

My firm choice is 240 points but I only got 200 points which is what I needed for my insurance... I like it there but I just really have my heart set on my first choice so if I dont get in, I'll just try again next year, and so hopefully will have loads more points :)

But when I was reading UCAS site it said once they get your results, its automatic so if you don't have enough for first you automatically get accepted into your insurance, so I'm going to be on the phone a lot once I know what my first choice's decision is .. UCAS is so annoying :rotfl2:

Yes UCAS is annoying. I'm not sure on my pass mark for my firm choice. I either need 240-280 points (so 3 Cs) or 2 Bs and a C. If it's the former, then I won't have any problem because i'm already averaging at least Cs in all my lessons. If it's the latter, then I have no idea, even more so after those exams I did -_-

I'm going to be a high school junior this year so I have to start looking into schools and whatnot... I'm planning on majoring in English with a minor in secondary education (I want to be an English teacher, preferably middle school). I really have no idea where I'm going to end up... I kind of want to get my general courses done at a SUNY school (so I can stay home for a year or two) and then transfer (probably somewhere down south, like Florida) once I'm "used to" college for my major-specific classes. There's a really good school like 5 minutes from my house, but the campus is way too dispersed for me to have to walk across when it snows a foot... so I might just end up going somewhere warm for all four years so it's easier to get around. I also prefer a smaller school so if I was to need any special accommodations in my dorm or with my schedule (which I probably will) I can get them.

i took a 200 level shakespeare course, and though it was crazy amounts of reading, and trying to comprehend and analyze all this insane text, it turned out to be one of my favourite courses, i really did enjoy decoding shakespeare! you learn a lot. (and it could come in handy playing jeopardy someday ahah)
I actually lied. That was a total typo. It's a 300 level course. I just might die. lol

decoding shakespeare may or may not be the worst thing on earth.

i'm only a senior in hs this year, but i'm starting the college visits soon and applying by november. i have to get my sat scores waaaaaaay up because the 1500 zone is not good enough!

the schools i'm looking at right now are;
drexel university
university of pennsylvania
la salle university
widener university
No Albright? :sad2: lol

That's honestly the best way to do it. Take a year or two and go to a community college and get all the gen ed classes out of the way. Then transfer all the credits to a major college/university. It saves so much money!!

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking too, I don't wanna be in a whole bunch of debt when I get out of college.

I'm still not used to being home!! lol
My life when I'm up at school is complete opposite of what home life is like, and I have the HARDEST time readjusting to my home life.
At school I'm hanging out with friends until 2 or 3 am almost every day. But at home, my friends and I stop hanging out at 12 or 1 am (also due to everything closing around 10 pm..lol)

Julie, I'm not looking at schools that aren't in a metropolitan area! Metro is a MAJOR factor for me! Not only for my personal liking, but because you find the best hospitals to work in in cities.

Baha i know, I was just messin'
Plus, my school has such a horrible pre-med program.

My sister, I think got a 16-something and got a lot of money to go to Drexel I think. They don't care as much about your SAT scores as is your normal grades in college.

And La Salle isn't much higher than a 1500, I'm pretty sure..I only got a 1500 and I would have gotten accepted.

And remember that the avg that Collegeboard says doesn't mean you have to make that amount to get in. I got into Seton Hall with my first SAT score of a 1400(which I am not proud of) and there avg is 1600.

Oh and take the SATs as much as possible...you can only improve your scores now since they take the best sections you did.

Some schools, like mine, are even getting rid of SAT scores completely. They are looking more at your overall grades in hs and how active you are.

I wouldn't stress too much about the SATs, but definitely keep taking them.

But the students must be smart since they are Al(L) Bright

haha...Im so funny lol jk

Just my stupid corny dad jokes lol

Haha, I can't even tell you have many jokes there are about my school.
The school's "motto" is "A Different Way of Thinking." Every student has some kind of joke about that. lol

exactly...plus the SATs grade you on stuff you never learned while the ACTs tests you on stuff you had or were supposed to have been taught.

I would be the jerk to say a "Different Way of Drinking" but only if it was a party school. lol

OMG!! We have a keg crawl every year that the students put on as a fund raiser for cancer research. And the tshirts this year had that saying on it! lol
