I am not happy... I went to my school to buy my textbooks for fall term...for 2 classes they cost $181.00.

The Economics text and study guide came together and they had only new ones..$90.75:mad:

My education class textbooks cost $67.00 -used hardcover
the other one cost $12.00

I think they jack up the price because they know we have to have them:mad:

What is everyone elses textbooks costing this semester?

I don't know, I didn't get mine yet. I'm probably going to go either tomorrow or Wednesday. My scholarship doesn't cover books, but hopefully the money I got from softball and school will cover it.

Hoo boy - I remember those days. Guess what - in December, they won't buy 'em back, either!

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font color=navy>I had to buy my son's books for high school and they came out to about $456 for the year ... for high school!!!!

DD just bought l0 books today, came to around $250. Math was $75. used. Her other books are language worksbook, english workbooks, not too bad.

DS engineering books will run around $500.

My daughter's books came to $508.00 mainly because none of them were being sold used. All come with multiple CDs, plus a couple courses had multiple required texts. She has a stipend to cover it though.

I just got my last book today for a grand total of $440 (six classes) but on a good note, my visualbasic.net advanced class was nice enough to give each student a free copy of visual basic.net studio and a copy of windows xp pro version to run it on.

on top of the books being so expensive-they raise tuition AGAIN:mad: This is the 3rd time since fall 2000 they have raised tuition.

I think the textbook prices are crazy...and they seem to keep going up and up every semester. I try to get the used ones as much as possible.

And while we are venting.....

The university I go to has all these mandatory fees (about $600/semester). I live an hour from campus, in my 40's, married with kids, no free time and I have to pay fees for the rec center, health services, transportation, community services, etc....I have never used any of these things that I have to pay for. I think they should be for students that live on campus or optional.

OK...thanks for listening ;)

I have 19 books this year.
3 of them I already have so I have to buy 16 books and they are gonna cost $187.50.
BTW, I'm in high school but I have to buy my books like college.

The price of college textbooks is just ridiculous! The most I ever spent was around $400 I think.

My DD was able to buy textbooks for 2 of her classes at Amazon.com and Half.com. The prices are good - even for new books...but they tend to go quickly, and they don't necessarily ship quickly unless you pay more for expedited shipping.

I was kind of lucky this semester, only 4 books at a total of about $110.

Luckily I graduated last year, but that reminds me of costliest and most useless college textbook. I have 3 JAVA books directly from Sun MicroSystems (actually, I have 4, but 2 were sold as 1). Each book cost $158 (with tax). They are the most useless piece of junk I have ever seen in my life! The books are not helpful, they are confusing, and filled with ERRORS. You cannot write a book for a programmer and put errors in it and expect a programmer to overlook them. Right after I decided to never take JAVA again, they ordered better books, and the books only cost $49.50.

My most costliest book/supply buying was around $600. I had to get one of the JAVA books, a TI-83, and 3 other textbooks.

You do know there's places on the net to buy your books at better deals than the bookstores, doncha? You can sell your old books to them too. I've never done it, but a friend of mine said she saved like 1/2 off on several of hers.

I have 4 classes, but like 20 or 30 books for $500.. ick. And then it all starts over again in December.. I'm not used to that, my HS classes went all year.

I shelled out almost $500.00 this semester, but that is for 7 classes and most of them are applicable for the next couple of semesters. It sure was hard to part with! Plus, I had to spend $150.00 to upgrade my software for my online classes.

I remember having to buy my books in high school (private school) but I don't remember them being anywhere near as expensive as college books.

I never understood why books weren't included with your tuition.
High schoolers that have to pay for their own books? I hope mine don't have to do that.
Thankfully all of my books and lab stuff etc are all included in my school tuition.
