Hi - I'm trying to come up with a birthday idea to send to a college student. I was thinking along the lines of something like a gift basket from The Popcorn Factory, but was hoping someone might have other ideas. The birthday girl does not have a car and has limited access to stores, so gift cards aren't really ideal - though I know she could use them online. Last year I did send her an AMEX gift card, but wanted to do something different this year. Thought about an Edible Arrangement, but I'm afraid with college mail/delivery systems and her busy schedule, she might not get it in the best of condition. Thanks for any suggestions.

i-tunes gift cards are a big hit with my teen-aged nieces and nephews (both in high school and college). Does she have a major? If so, perhaps a more adult gift that relates to her field of study would be appreciated.

At the college my DS goes to, the housing department will send a cake and the plates and stuff to go with it if we contact them (and pay them some buchs;)). That's what we are doing with DS in February.

my mom bought me tickets to see a broadway play for my birthday. granted, we had to drive there, but maybe if you live near by you could take her out to do soemthing? if she lives on campus without a car, she's probably dying for a day on the town.;)

When I was in college I got money which is always good, LOL, and books and stuff I wanted that were related to my major that I couldn't of afforded then.

At both of my dds' colleges, we could order baked goods from the food service-stuff like birthday cakes, but also cupcakes and giant chocolate chip cookies (like pizza-size). They send an email to the student telling them when they can come and pick it up.

Also, at my dd's college and some others we looked at, the bookstore was run by Barnes and Noble and they accept Barnes and Noble gift cards. Of course the bookstores had a lot more than books-they sell clothing, magazines, snacks, room decor stuff, jewelry, etc.

If you do go with the Popcorn Factory, both my dds have received those and really enjoyed them!
:)
