Just checking to see if there are other parents on the board who have kids who are doing the college program, cp alumni, or waiting to interview. I have one who is a cp alumni and one who will be going on an interview on Oct. 11th. My DD is the one going on Oct. 11th. She is the baby and it is a little harder to let her go. I am hoping she gets to be in the program. My DS has already been, it was hard to let him go so far away, but I think it was easier because he is a guy. Please don't bash me on that one. We live in Texas and I see my kids every other weekend or so. I know they spoil me. I wanted to see if there were other parents out there like me. :scratchin

My daughter did the CP twice and loved it. She was the child that I thought wouldn't do well away from home. She did very well and came home a newly independent adult.

It gave me an excuse to come to WDW to visit her. After doing the CP we decided to move to FL. :)

My 17yo DD is going to the CP meeting at her college this week. I don't know if she will interview. After thinking about it I think it would be better if she waited a year to do it so she will have a whole year of college under her belt. Well, she'd have over a year by then, but I don't think it would work out for next fall (her brother's Bar Mitzvah is next November and I don't know if they would give her a few days off to come home next fall).

My DD did the CP in the summer of 2000 and then returned after her college graduation to do a second CP from May 2001 until January of 2002! That's when I expected her to return home and get a 'real' job as a special education teacher! LOL!! That didn't happen--she now is a full-time Disney CM in Entertainment (she's close personal friends with the Princesses in Cinderellabration)--and she loves her job!! I understand what you mean about 'the baby'--she is my 'baby' and I miss her terribly! :-( I am so fortunate that when she left home for WDW in May 2001, she planned on returning in a few months. I can't imagine how difficult it would have been to say 'good-bye' if I'd known she was staying in Florida permanently! I hate having her so far away--but she calls home every day and I take frequent trips to WDW!! :-)

Tigger & Belle--
When DD went to her first CP in May 2000, she was worried about getting time off to return home for her sister's wedding in July. She didn't have any problems arranging for this--they were very understanding. She did take along the wedding invitation etc as proof--'just in case'.

How many days was your DD able to take off for the wedding? Not that my DD would be taking many days off if she is in college then--probably just a long weekend.

safetymom, in general I can understand why they don't want the workers taking many days off.

I would try and have them schedule that time as her normal days off with an added day or two. I would also guess it depends on the time of year and if there are any holidays whether or not they would give the time off.

No major holidays that weekend, but it will be Veteran's Day weekend 2006. It probably also makes a difference if a student is honest with them about any time off during the interview as opposed to springing it on them when they are there.

And she could always wait until the following spring to do it. That's assuming she even ends up doing it.

My DD is going to school to be an elementary school teacher. My DS absolutely loved it, but he came home to finish school.

I would go crazy I think if my DD said she was going to stay there.

safetymom, I will spend as much time as I can afford at Disney. Gotta find cheap airfares though.

It is good to know I am not alone.
Thanks for listening PKK/MJK, safetymom, and Tigger&Belle. :grouphug:

Hi, my son is currently awaiting an answer from disney, had his phone interview last week and we are all on pins and needles waiting. They say two weeks before you know whether or not you are accepted. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to get an answer?

My daughter had to wait a month to get her letter. It seemed like a year when we were waiting.

When I did the CP, it took about 2 weeks to get my letter. My parents were really upset about me going. They thought I was "too young" (I was 19 when I went down). And it was my first year of school. Well, to make a long story short, I got accepted to Spring Advantage 2005. But my parents had it changed to Spring 2005. The funny thing is that they ended up letting me extend over the summer so I still got to stay 8 months. They thought I would never stay 8 weeks, let alone 8 months. I liked it so much that I hope to do another program and go work there full-time after I graduate. It's hard letting your kids go. But it works out. Plus it gives you an excuse to go to Disney! :goodvibes

you had to wait a month!oh man, after a few weeks did you contact anyone thinking they didnt get accepted? they actually told him he would get an email, but from what i hear it comes in the mail. he did get an email after the phone interview thanking him for attending the presentation. wow hope he doesnt have to wait a month. this past week has been long enough :hourglass :earseek:

They had told my daughter it might take that long. She got a letter in the mail. Everyday she called me from school asking if it came. The day it came she got home very quickly. I was ready with kleenex and a camera to capture the moment.

She was thrilled when she opened the letter. It was worth waiting for.

I wouldn't worry about getting days off! As long as you ask for them in advance I am sure you won't have any problems. She really won't have to mention it in the interview because it won't ever make it back her boss. The people who interview just travel around interviewing people. That is their job, so I am pretty sure they don't get involved with days off here and there.

She won't have a problem, and she will LOVE IT!!! Best part is the hotel discount! Make sure you take advantage of that and visit her while she is there!
