collecting pins for granddaughter?

I am a grandmother of a beautiful 1 year old . I am already planning a DW trip when she is 4, (wanted to go when she is 3 but her parents are holding me off). I was thinking of starting her a pin collection so she could wear one of those lanyards when we go and she would have alot of pins. Or do you think I should wait and have her pick out pins by herself? I have never collected pins and would appreciate any advice you might have. Thanks!

My DD 8 1/2 has a lanyard and a pin collection but we haven't been back to disney for her to trade yet.

She gets pins for gifts -birthdays & in her stocking at christmas.
She loves to collect them and look at them and arrange them.
I found some on clearance at TDS last year and bought her two of each pin she got so she can keep one if she wants and trade the other.

I got her pink lanyard off ebay -it has small world children on the strap and is cute.
I'd start her now so she is familiar with the pins etc before you go.

I have never noticed before, do the kids wear these to the parks? Can you get the lanyrds at the disney store? I am getting excited about this now.

I bought lanyards and pins for both my dds before our trip. I think I had more fun that they did with them. Not to discourage you, but my dds got tired of wearing them, as they were heavy. I ended up carrying them. By the end of our trip, we were just leaving them in the room. I think older children might have a bit more fun with pin trading. Ours didn't want to part with ANY of their pins - LOL.

Obviously if you want to collect pins for your dgd, go for it. Just don't make my mistake and put ALL of them on her lanyard at once I have also read posts from people whose young children LOVED pin trading, so like anything else, it depends on the child. But yes, kids do wear pin lanyards and trade pins And we had a really neat Disney pin moment, when a kind gentleman gave our dds each a pin and didn't want one in return. They were so excited!
