Codeshare help

I wonder if some people could help me with my flight...

I'm not sure if it's the same for all codeshares though, so no worries if nobody knows the answer

I've booked a flight through Iberia which is being operated by British Airways. My ticket number/booking ref thingy allows me to view my flight on both the Iberia and BA websites.

However, I'm not sure what to do when it comes to checking in. Normally, are codeshare flights able to check in online? When I log on to BA, it says online check in is available 24 hours before my flight, and gives me the time and date etc, so I always assumed that I would check in online with BA. But yesterday I was told that I wouldn't be able to do this, and that i would have to check in online with Iberia. However, when I go to that section of Iberia's website, the only London airport you can chose to check in from is Heathrow, but I'm flying from Gatwick

So does this sound right? Me not being able to check in online with BA?

Also, if I don't manage to check in online (which I can see happening ) - whose desk would I go to check in at Gatwick? Would I head to Iberia's desk or BA's?

OK, I saw this yesterday and was going to reply but thought someone might have had a more definitive answer, but...

I am quite sure you will be able to do both online check-in and use the BA desks at the airport. You are after all booked with BA, when they put a tag on your bag it will probably have the BA flight number as well as that of the codeshare partner, as long as they can access your booking it doesn't really matter at what desk in the airport they are sitting behind.

Still you can do the online check in 24 hours before presumably, if you can't do it through the BA site just give yourself an extra half an hour at the airport

EDIT: ok just re-read the post and see you booked through Iberia, I still think the same thing goes though. In fact I've just checked the Gatwick website and I don't think Iberia fly there at all so I doubt they will have any desk. Go to the BA desk you'll be fine

Ah! That would explain why you can online check-in through Iberia, only if you are going from Heathrow

I'll give the BA online check-in a go when it opens.

Every time I've flown a code-share, I've always been told that if you want to check in at the airport, you can only do it at the desk of the airline whose flight it is (so in your case, BA's), but that if you are checking in on-line, you should be able do it on EITHER airline's website (although that could just be a rule of the airlines I happened to be flying with on those times).

Either way, it looks like as long as you do it with BA, on-line or at a desk, you'll be fine.
