Code discrimination, inequality, or whatever you want to call it.

Honestly who cares.

Not sure what you meant by this statement, but I care. Certainly I realize that there are millions of people that could never afford to travel to Disney, even if they got a 90% off code, but I've only stayed on site three times since 2000 and Disney would have gotten me there more often if I had received the coveted 40% deal.

we went last year in april & paid rack rate full package (minus meal plan). we're planning for this year & no codes available so far. we've already booked the DCL for 2009, so i'm thinking we won't get a code. After 2009, i'd like to skip a year or 3, so maybe then i'll get one!

I think people believing that code selection is "random" is naive. Come on - Just look at this thread. It's all the same people (myself included) that go multiple times a year, and have been doing so for some time, that don't get them. It's obvious they target people that aren't regular guests.

We haven't stayed in a Disney-owned hotel in almost nine years, and haven't gotten any discount offers, despite having priced, reserved and cancelled rooms in all categories over the years. We're at WDW almost every other year, but WDW hasn't gotten our room $$ in quite some time! If we got a 40% off code, it certainly would make us consider staying on-site again!

I wasn't a happy camper about it.

If filling up the Disney rooms is their number one goal then make the codes public and limit the amount available for the discount and let supply and demand forces take over. That's what our economy is based on. This way a promo shows no preferential treatment and is fair to all. I don't even like bounceback offers; because, they are not offered to everyone.

Fortunately, I have AAA and I will probably use their discount for my December trip this year. I haven't booked; because, I keep hoping a public code will be released that may be better. Also, I would think about changing my dates for a free dining offer; so, I'm holding tight for the moment. At least with AAA, everyone gets the same deal.

I actually think 2009 may have some changes with AAA and their available Disney discounts. If Disney is not offering as many public codes anymore or lesser discounts like ticket upgrades then why should they give AAA a better advantage over themselves to the public with the room and vacation package discounts? Even Disney Visa card holders aren't getting as many good offers. AAA has less black-out dates and they sure seem to have great availability for rooms at all levels with their discounts. I can't see Disney continuing this practice based on what is happening this year from their end. I hope I'm wrong, but I feel it's coming that AAA's discounts will be changing for the worse in the future, as well. I think 2008 was locked in with their agreements with Disney; so, I'm taking advantage of their discount this year.

Random discounts really piss me off. It really goes against what we all believe in this country.

Can I just tell you I am so angry. We did not get a code sent to us. Loyal customers for 20 years but the other half of my family who went on our grand gathering last year did and it was their first trip ever. Does anyone know the email to Disney? this just burns me up?? I have to say something to them about this; not that anyone will listen. It is like a slap in the face.

I don't know who to email, but I agree with you, it's so unfair. My friend got one for 40% and she's never gone, her kids play on the Disney website with her email address and she got an email one. I called CRO and asked if I could use it (already knowing the answer, but it never hurts to ask!) and of course they said NO. I think these codes should be a one time use, so if you don't use it a friend or family member could. That wouldn't change the total number of discounts they are giving out, just make them more available.

Okay, so has anyone tried saying, "you mailed a postcard to my address, but the name is wrong, we've lived here for x amount of time and want to use it?".

I don't bank on promo's. I book with AAA (different than a AAA discount) and I'm saving a nice penny, even with upgrading rooms at the WL and deluxe dining. My thoughts are that if they (disney) want to give me a code, they know how to reach me, I've made ADR's, they have my email, home, cell phone numbers and mailing address. Not getting a code will not prevent us from taking a trip and they know it, so what's the sense in griping? It will resolve nothing.

Yes I will continue to visit and pay whatever I deem I can afford at the time. But when you "gripe" it may make them rethink the loyalty factor of their guests. If they dont know your feelings how can they possibly know they are sometimes doing wrong? No company is perfect, not even the mouse.

I totally agree.

I've used this analogy before. I equate it to buying a plasma TV at Best Buy for $2,000. The guy in front of you has the exact same TV and only pays $1,500, simply because he was randomly sent a coupon via email. Granted, all business make deals or concessions to customers at one time or another, but to randomly select people for no reason, is unfair.

It's a slap in the face to loyal guests.

We have never received a code, upgrade etc. One year we stayed at the Polynesian 3 times. I answer all their surveys, enter all their contests, sign up for all the information etc. Nothing, never ever. I do ask if their is a code for our name and its always the same, no. Well they see when I make the ADRs and they ask I always tell them we are staying at the Swan. I gladly take my business elsewhere when we can get a nice govt. discount and get rewarded with starpoints for being a frequent guest etc. I have had APs in the past and gotten some room discounts but that is it. I am seriously debating again where to stay for our may trip. Its a big celebration so I will probably do a split stay with the swan and a disney hotel. I just cant see coughing up $350 to $400 a night for a place to sleep lately. We also have never had a magical dream either, not that we expected one. Our one ds really did have a nice time talking to the dream team members once. Just talking and that was it. There are alternatives for us, the codeless.

.

My thoughts exactly. Fortunately for Disney, only a small percentage of their visitors know what a code is.

To me, this seems to be a very inequitable system, and, of course, I would like the opprtunity for a similar 30% or 40% discount.

I think it's totally unfair! They should give us ALL 40% off whenever we want. Or even better- 100% off all the time! :rotfl:

I never expect a code, or expect offers to be fair and equitable.

You know Ive always wandered why they ask how many times you have gone in the past. I always thought they would treat their regular guest a little special maybe giving them better rates or bumping them up to concierge. But now I wander if the more frequent guest get treated with les Dis Magic ?

I don't expect a code, but I still don't think it's fair that some are randomly paying substantially less than others for absolutely no reason. AP codes, AAA codes, FL Resident codes - No problem. General codes not available to everyone = Completely unfair.

I wondered the same, so I enter in a bogus # every time (between 0 and 50 :rotfl: ) just to see if a code or offer is generated, but so far NADA.

I have been to WDW twice in my life. Both visits were in 2007. We were there in September for free dining.
So, I don't know what that means in terms of the theory about frequent visitors. Going with free dining shows that I am a sucker for a deal. I did get the stuff about DVC, go to DL 5-10 times a year, got the free WDW maps, get the new DVD.

My parents who were with us the first trip in 2007 didn't get a 40% code.

I am bummed for all of you who don't get codes. Tickled for me, that I get to go again.

It would be cool to go to a DisBoards full WDW, except then all the tricks I have learned here...wouldn't be tricks since everyone would know them.

Good luck with codes!!!!
