cockaroach OKW style

Ssssoooo....what are the little pinpoint sized buggies running around on my Entenmann's buns this morning?

Mobile poppy seed ??????? :confused3

Just got back from a stay at OKW. Did not see any critters except outside. There were loads of salamanders but never saw anything in my room.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom.

Palmetto bugs is the reason I won't go back to HH! I'm terrified of them.

In 5 visits to OKW we've never seen a bug or roach and I was hoping that meant they weren't common there. Now I wish I'd never opened this thread!

I think I may go to see a hypnotist before our trip back to OKW next June as I have an absolute phobia of beetles/bugs etc.

If there are maintenance or housekeeping issues at any resort, including OKW, you must let them know. They don't know unless we tell them! I really think the chronic complaints at BCV have begun to pay off. It sounds like members need to speak up a little more at OKW.

I too have noticed that the negative BCV reports have really seemed to decline, and I agree that it is probably the result of people speaking up more to the BCV management.

But I gotta say that although it appears to be effective, it should not be the burden of the hotel guest to have to report obvious room problems that could have been communicated by housekeeping or some other quality control person. And I'm not singling out Disney, I've experienced many obvious quality problems with other well known deluxe resorts outside of Disney.

I don't know, maybe this is just the way the hotel industry works: quality assurance is controlled by the customer. As a software engineer, I know that if I expected my customers to find all the obvious "bugs" they would not be my customers for very long. But I don't know if the two industries can be compared like that, there may be other factors that I have not realized.

Sorry for getting a bit off the topic, but it is surprising how willing people are to tolerate quality problems.

We have been staying at OKW twice a year since 1993 and haven't seen any roaches, palmetto buggs, or whatever else they are called. We have seen the little lizards or salamanders or whatever they are called and had one or two get into the room over the years, but that's it. Have also seen the tree frog - only once or twice so I definitely won't worry about the bugs. We have always noticed that they are out spraying the grounds behind our condo at least once a week. Maybe, this was an exceptional year for these bugs. We were there in May and didn't see any. That said, I won't hesitate to call Housekeeping/Maintenance if I had a problem with them and they would definitely get a call if there was mold anywhere. Also, I agree with one of the other posters about people not reporting other problems. We checked into our unit once and the door to the cabinet in the dining area was literally hanging over the hinges and someone had broken the bedroom door to the patio and there was some problem with the refrigerator. We called maintenance and they were there within the hour and fixed everything.

You could just let the lizards & frogs eat the bugs! :bounce:

But seriously, in that type of climate you have an abundance of wildlife and from time to time a bug or a lizard or a frog is bound to make it's way inside.

That is not the same as being infested. We have the same type of lizards where I live and they do make there way inside sometimes.

I agree its best to report such issues, but I moreso agree with Judson that the reporting is a secondary issue to the actual condition of the rooms. With regard to the OP's room, its not like it was well-cleaned and they found a bug. The primary responsibility for not having dirty carpet and candy wrappers falls on the resort.

So yes, one should report such things, but at the same time, coming down on the person who didn't report it moreso than those who are directly to blame doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I usually call maintenance on the morning we check out to report any items that need attention to. For instance, we had a bed at OKW that sounded like it was gonna fall apart, a TV remote that needed replacing, lights at SSR that had burnt out, etc. I think it would be nice if we all reported these small things before heading out so it just doesn't keep getting passed on to member after member. I'm probably on some pain in the rear list, but I personally would like to arrive into a well maintained room and it would make me happy to know the previous member was watching out for their fellow members who happen to follow. :teeth:

I'm surprised no one has brought up love bugs. I lived in Tampa for two years and I still remember coming home every night in Spring to find my apartment door covered with amorous insects so that I would have move carefully and quickly into my abode - yuck! :crazy2: Not to mention how my car needed to be washed all the time from the insect carnage.

I didn't mind the lizards - they were, just my opinion, cute. But those palmetto bugs - ugghh! One 'glided' right by my face once and I screamed so loud that my room mate at the time thought some one was being raped or murdered. :scared1:

:bounce: was your frog like this one, or was he bigger, ha. we are going to okw in a couple of months, hope you have all the varmits gone by then. my dh would get no sleep till all the bugs were gone.
