Coca-Cola Move and Peeps Pepsi

Why doesn't coke transform into using real cane sugar? That would be a big hit.

I could be mistaken because I scarcely look at or buy soda but I thought like 3 or 4 years ago (maybe more) they were selling the little small size cans and advertised them as being cane sugar, as a limited time offering.

Well if Coke did that, who's to say Pepsi wouldn't do the same thing?
Pepsi already sells "Real Sugar Pepsi" in US stores. It costs the same as regular Pepsi and comes in 12 packs.

Coke only sells cane sugar cola as "Mexican Coke", which comes in glass bottles and costs way more than regular Coke.

EDIT: For a while, Pepsi was selling Mt. Dew made with cane sugar, too. It disappeared around the time that the pandemic started and I haven't seen it since. I don't know if it's still available elsewhere, though.

Maybe this is what I'm thinking of as opposed to what I wrote above.

They both do real sugar versions for Passover, too, apparently. A yellow cap on a bottle of Coke means it's Kosher and has sugar, not HFCS.

Coke has to put out a new flavor every year so people will be disgusted and continue to stick to regular Coke. I discovered a new Coke yesterday, Coke Move. The bottle said it tastes like "Transformation". I tried it, it tastes like coconut Coke. Far as I know, no transformation took place, but I will keep you posted.

I also spotted a yellow Peeps Pepsi but had to pass because it probably tastes like Buyer's Remorse.
And yet they still haven't returned to regular caffeine-free Coke that they "paused" at the beginning of the pandemic.

Pepsi also dropped Sierra Mist in place of this new Starry product. Has anyone tried it and does it really taste any different? I think their marketing department will need to spend a LOT of money on ads or people will have NO idea this product is a replacement for something popular. Most people will no longer see Sierra Mist in the store, think it is no longer available and buy Sprite or 7-Up instead.

I tried the zero sugar one and found it to be a little too sweet for me. I don't drink a lot of soda anymore so maybe that's just me not used to the taste of soda. I saw zero marketing for this and found out it existed only because one of the stores near me had it on a display at checkout.

Rumor has it that Starry tastes like Mist, but with a "P".

But let's get down to brass tacks:
Is cane sugar much better for you vs corn syrup if you're a habitual soda consumer?

Are we talking corn syrup or High Fructose Corn Syrup? Makes a difference. Not sure what Coke is using these days. I only drink the Zero version.

From the last link:

The Bottom Line

"The most common form of high-fructose corn syrup, HFCS 55, is virtually identical to regular table sugar.

Evidence to suggest that one is worse than the other is currently lacking.

In other words, they’re both equally bad when consumed in excess."

But what about table sugar vs cane sugar?

https://www.americastestkitchen.com...s/8891-natural-cane-sugar-vs-granulated-sugar

"Natural cane sugar is only slightly less processed than regular white sugar. That said, it retains a bit of a blond color."

What are the kids drinking these days?
Is it the parents' fault? The corporations?
Is Phil Donahue to Cane Sugar what Phil Hartman portraying Phil Donahue is to table sugar?

I doubt anyone who drinks soda looks at it as a health food/beverage. As with most things you consume, moderation probably have more to do with it then whether or not is has some specific ingredient.

The whole cane sugar vs. sugar made from beets topic seems more like clever marketing to get people to believe one is better then another.

The zero versions of these drinks is far worse for you than the fructose corn syrup version. Every time they study these highly processed alternative sweeteners the worse they discover they are for you.

Beets? wow.
There really is no winning with soda. If it's not HFCS, it's everything else included inside. Look at Mountain Dew.

And I'm sure DLgal knows about aspartame. It's not going to be harmful in small doses like a casual Coke Zero here and there. Though, let's not forget that the movie C.H.U.D. was based on the effects of excessive aspartame exposure.

Yuck!🤮

Well if Coke did that, who's to say Pepsi wouldn't do the same thing?

I would expect Coke to respond by marketing that their sugar was free of GMOs and grown biodynamically. If you don't change you will end of like Cambell's soup whose business model has been decimated because they are not evolving with consumer trends fast enough.

Beets? wow.

Yes, sugar cane only grows in tropical climates. Sugar beets can be grown in many parts of the country with moderate climate. If you see a bag of sugar in the grocery store and it says 'pure cane sugar', you know that is made from sugar cane. Sugar made from sugar beets won't have any reference to 'cane sugar'. Those who grow/sell cane sugar want you to believe their product is somehow superior, but that is mostly clever marketing.

Not in those amounts. I drink maybe 2 Coke zeroes a month, if that. I've taken HFCS out of my diet. I still eat sugar though. Just prefer natural versions of it.
