I have seen the picture for the cobb salad at the Hollywood brown derby. It looks great. Does anyone have an opinion on the salad or anything else there. I've read that it's pretty expensive and not that great. Thanks for any info.

On our trip a few years back I was so looking forward to this salad. I am by all means no chef but........I make a better cobb salad than that! I guess the bottom line is that it was way too finely chopped for me, to the point that it was mushy on the verge of soupy! Sorry but I have to be honest. And I am not a picky eater at all, but thought this was very over rated. I hate discouraging people from trying it themselves, but this salad I believe is offered at one the CS places at the Disney Studios, so feel free to try it anyway. I'm aware I may be flamed but so be it. :confused3 ;)

Hollywood Brown Derby is our favorite restaurant  and the cobb salad is to die for!
While it is a pricey restaurant, I don't think it's pricey enough to be a 2TS credit restaurant on the DDP. IMO, it is worth the money they do charge for a fine dining experience. We've had excellent meals and service each time we've gone there. If you'd like to read about our meals & experience, check out my trip report (link below). It was Day 1 of our last trip, and will likely be our 1st night tradition from now on.

Personally I think the Cobb salad is to die for....it is one of my favorite things to eat in all of WDW...it is finely chopped and it is NOT your typical everyday cobb....but it is excellent. The blend of flavors is great...but food is a very subjective experience so....you can check out the menu and exact cost at www.allearsnet,com

It is more than you would pay for a salad at Applebees but then again it is a huge portion of an amazing salad...The Brown Derby is a must for us every trip!

LOVE the Cobb Salad. The first time I had it I did not expect it. It is finely chopped and a different texture than what you normally see.

Brown Derby Menu

Here's the menu here on the Dis, you can also see pictures of the restaurant interior.

Moving to main dining board for more comments :)

I ordered this as teenager the first time....loved it and started ordering it everyehere at home and couldnt find one that was right. I had to have it on my next trip as a young adult...now planning my next trip I plan to go and have it again.

My DH loves that Cobb salad and I strongly dislike it. I think it's an individual "thing". Regarding pricing, I think HBD is no pricier than many other TS places at WDW.

The Cobb salad is great!! And the Brown Derby is the best restaurant at the Studios.

I was looking forward to the Cobb Salad at the Brown Derby but was disappointed. I guess it's a matter of taste but I really don't like my salads chopped up that finely. I order Cobb Salad frequently from other restaurants but I would not get this one again at the Derby. The restaurant itself was lovely and the service was fine. I'm just not sure that I would spend 2 TS credits here. I'd go to CG or Jikos.
Strangely enough, on my last trip to the world I also ordered a Cobb Salad from the food court at the CBR and I liked that one better than the Derby.

I don't mind the chopped, but I won't eat anything with hardboiled eggs. Haven't tried asking if they'll do it without the eggs.

YUCK, too finely chopped for my taste. But that is just me.

Not directing this at you, no picking on you, no flames, I swear :goodvibes I just find it funny how many people keep saying that it's too finely chopped, yet Cobb salad was invented at the original Hollywood Brown Derby. This is the way it's supposed to be made :upsidedow

from the HBD menu:
The fine food at the Brown Derby gained it's own fame. The Cobb salad was invented when owner Robert Cobb raided the refrigerator seeking a midnight snack for theater magnate Sid Grauman.

Ok, I feel better now :flower3:

I am one that loves the Cobb Salad! It is one of the things I am most looking forward to on our next trip! :goodvibes The rest of the food didn't "wow" me though. It was good, but not great IMHO. We are going for lunch next trip rather than dinner.

The Cobb salad is delicious!! I had it 3 weeks ago and its as good as ever.

Gosh, Well it seems that most people love it or hate it. I'm not a great salad eater but I do enjoy a good one every now and then. I was and probably still am looking foward to it. I didn't realize it was 2 TS though. I know that I wasn't planning on going for dinner. I was thinking maybe since it was lunch that they may consider a QS. This is all new to me  (dining plan and disney world). Maybe this will be the detreming factor, whether I pay for it out of my pocket or not..;) Even so I still want to read your opinions and thoughts. Still looking for breakfast places if you care to post on my other post. Thankyou.

OT - I was looking at the menu, we have an ADR for April, what else is good? It all sounds delicious, even the tempura grouper on the kids menu.

I LOVE Cobb Salad and have loved it before at the Brown Derby. I have to be honest though, that I just had it 4 weeks ago at the BD and it wasn't all that good. So much so, that I was sorry I hadn't ordered the bowl of soup. Maybe it was just an off night.:confused3

I don't mind the chopped, but I won't eat anything with hardboiled eggs. Haven't tried asking if they'll do it without the eggs.

They will. I asked for it without the eggs and blue cheese and they had no problem with it! It loved the dressing with it.

Go there for lunch and pay out of pocket. I think it's more than enough for two people. While it's not the best meal I've ever had, it's one of the few things that don't weigh you down in the summer heat. I think it's nice and refreshing.

DD14 had the Roasted Hatfield Rib Pork Chop in December and it was absolutely amazing  The pork was so tender it was like eating a fine filet mignon. It almost melted in your mouth. Sadly I only got 1 bite :sad2:

I've had the Pan-Fried Black Grouper with aged balsamic roasted asparagus, sweet onion marmalade and citrus juices --it was recommended by our server(s) both times. It was very good. I've also had the Grilled Atlantic Salmon on soft mascarpone polenta with gorgonzola, balsamic glaze and Sicillan olive tapenade. Salmon was cooked perfectly (as requested) and the polenta was the best I've ever had.

OP- I love this restaurant but still say it's not worth 2TS credits (IMO) It's just not that much more expensive than the other good 1TS restaurants. We were on the DDP on our December trip, but chose to pay OOP for this meal (we also have the DDE card, and used that)
