We are off to DLP next week, dd is 7 and I am hoping this visit she will be able to ride a coaster or two. However, I don't want to scare her off!! ;)

I know all kids are different and I would say she isn't the bravest, but she has been on a few around the UK, namely the Dragon Ride one at Legoland, the Runaway Train at Alton Towers and a few weeks ago the Grand National (the rickety wooden one that races side by side) in Blackpool - although this was a bit of a mistake, as OH told us both it was only a baby one and I am not sure we would get her on it again! :rolleyes1

I know she would like to go on Crushes Coaster and she has been on a 'mouse' one without spinning, that was pretty scary to me (turning right at the last minute and it had a drop? , but I don't want to put her off before we start!

What would you suggest? Which one should be aim to be first to break her in gently and is Crush too scary?

Definetly:
Casey Jr
Big Thunder Mountain

Maybe:
Crush - It's dark, so you never see where you're going, which might be scary. On the other hand, it doesn't make very high drops or has any other scary elements in it.

Avoid:
Space Mountain Mission 2
Indiana Jones
Rock & Roller Coaster

I wouldn't go for loopings coasters just yet, she'll be to small in heigth anyway and I personally find her a bit young for those but that's my opinion.

Hope this helps!

I agree, if she likes the Runaway Train she'll love Big Thunder Mountain. Casey Jnr is mild and fun.

My lad loved BTM from 6. He is drying to be tall enough for SM2 as he loves watching the launch. SM2 is my favourite :D

Both my girls were tall enough to do BTM this last trip and they both loved it (7 & 4 year old). Like yours, they had been on the dragon one at Legoland (first 'proper' but tame coaster) so I didn't know what to expect and what to compare it to.

We rode BTM about 16 times over 5 days we loved it so much - it was one of the highlights of our trip being able to ride together as a family of four :goodvibes. We managed it so much as we had VIP FPs a few days and also one DLH FP each day - it is a popular coaster so FPs work well.

Indy has a height restriction bigger than BTM - both my DDs are tall, DD1 tall for a 7 year old, but she was way too short - 15 cm or so, so I doubt your DD would be big enough for that anyway. Similar height for Space Mountain.

We never did Crush but I'd read it's quite scary - tbh the queue was so long we never bothered. I wouldn't have taken DD2 on it anyway as her age. Not sure of height restriction on that one either - if it's like Indy, she will probably be too small?

Casey is nice but tame once they've done BTM :rolleyes1. We did it twice but more because DD2 loves Casey in Dumbo :goodvibes

Crush doesn't have a high height restriction as it has no loops - its a spinny in-the-dark coaster. If you've been to Alton Towers and seen Sonic Spinball, its like that, only in the dark.

Thanks for clarifying Elaine. I wasn't sure what the deal was with Crush.

Sorry DLPDaft, Crush does have a height restriction of 1.07m, I only know this as my daughter was 4 and 1.05m and desperate to go on, so we put some socks in her snowboots :rolleyes1 LOL then they checked her height 3 times before going on!!

K8T: My 4 and 5 year old were fine on crushes coaster they loved it, but my 4 year old is braver than my 5 year old! I would see how she gets on going on BTM then if ok, I'd give Crush a go !!!

Hope this helps & have a fab time xxx

My 9 year old daughter (7 at the time) went on Crush with her daddy on our last trip in 2010 - scared her to death.....So much so she said she's definitely not going on it this time.

Thanks, that has helped enormously!

DLPdaft - Yes we know Sonic, she hasn't been on it yet, although queued and was told she was too short. Not sure I would like it :rolleyes1

Strawberry Blush - This is what I am afraid of!!

Sounds like Casey and then BTM will be the ones to go for, I was going to leave Crush until the second day anyway and try and do it first thing in the morning, if at all.

DD is average height for her age, so maybe not tall enough for the others anyway, which will solve the problem without any loss of face on her part.

Fingers crossed it isn't madly busy.
