Hi everyone,

This is our first trip to Disney World as a family and we are so excited!! I'm sure not everything will go as planned and that's ok but since you all have the experience, I would be very grateful for your advice.

So, my husband and oldest son (21yo) love coasters, of all kinds. Our youngest (18yo) doesn't like them at all. He can handle most virtual rides including Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey but any ride that is an actual coaster (even if inside) has not been enjoyable for him. He said he hated The Mummy at Universal because of the speed along with the movements back and forth.

My reason for posting here is to find out if anyone can give me alternative rides that are close to coaster rides so our 18 year old and I can enjoy time while our 21 year old and my husband ride the bigger ones (including splash, space and any other mountain).

Thank you all for any advice you can give! 😊

My family is the same. Son and one stepdaughter hate coasters. Other kids love them.
For the non coaster crew:
MK:
Peter Pan’s Flight and Little Mermaid near 7D
Jungle Cruise and Pirates near BTMRR
People Mover & Buzz Lightyear near SM

Thank you so much! We may have to go through Buzz LY a couple times. It's one of my favorite movies ☺

Most rides at DW are a lot of fun but not roller coasters or super scary. I would Google Disney world "thrill rides" and then ride everything not on that list, and you'll find there's plenty to keep you entertained. Some of the super slow attractions are my favorites like the hall of presidents and carousel of progress in MK and living with the land at Epcot.

My son is 16 and has been to WDW many times. He does not like most thrill rides. He will do 7 dwarves, Flight of Passage, slinky dog & Splash. He also does test track & really enjoyed rise of the resistance. Will your son do any of those rides?
TSMM is a favorite by Slinky. Buzz, Haunted Mansion, Pirates are all rides he enjoys.

Oh sorry, just saw you said close to coasters, I second Pirate's, haunted mansion in MK, in Epcot Frozen is fun, spaceship earth is slow moving, could do soarin at Epcot, you move but it's sort of virtual.

He said he's willing to do Haunted Mansion even though he's not big on scary movies. I'm trying to convince him it's more like Casper but I don't want to freak him out either. He's not autistic but definitely on the spectrum.

Test track probably? I think Flight of Passage would be doable and Pirates from what I remember as a kid. It's so hard to know what will be ok for him. He definitely doesn't like coasters that move like Slinky Dog Dash. He's terrified of heights if they are real.

Thank you for your help!!

No worries! I'm trying to map out a way to keep him entertained while my husband and other son ride the coasters but it's not a big deal. We'll make it work. 😊

I am not a coaster fan either. I don’t even like the Barnstormer! When I travel with people who want to ride coasters, I just do whatever other attractions are in the area. For example, if they go on Space Mountain, I will head to the CoP or Peoplemover. If they go on 7DMT, I head for Pooh and Mermaid. I like the nearby attractions enough that I don’t mind a re-ride if it’s something they want to ride also.

Test Track is WDW’s fastest roller coaster on property reaching speeds of over 60mph, so I’d say probably not. They actually have a cool waiting area at the end of the ride for family members that features new Chevy cars. It also gives non-riders the opportunity to design and test their own vehicles without actually going on the ride. Here are the best slower rides/experiences in each park.

MK - Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress, Buzz Lightyear, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Magic Carpets, Dumbo

AK - Nature treks in Africa & Asia, Festival of the Lion King, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Na’vi River Journey

Epcot - Spaceship Earth, Finding Nemo, The Seas, Living with the Land, Imagination Station, Ratatouille, Gran Fiesta

HS - Stage shows, Mickey & Minnie’s RR, Toy Story Midway Mania, Alien Spin, Star Wars character sighting and droid building, Indiana Jones (possibly back when you come?)

Oh, and the 4D theater shows are fun. MK has Mickey's Philharmonic and AK has It's a Bug's Life. I think HS may have one, too, muppets maybe. You'll definitely have plenty to do to have fun at every park! All-age experiences definitely outweigh thrill rides at DW.

If you have not already, you might want to have him watch a POV video of the attractions he is iffy on. I know a lot of people like to be surprised, but I have to watch everything new with my sister so she can decide if she can handle the attraction or not. This might help him before getting there.

If you have never been to Disney, you will likely be surprised at how few roller coasters there are compared to many other amusement parks. Most of the Disney rides seem relatively tame. Other amusement parks continue to add roller coasters that are taller/faster or have unique features.

Some people get dizzy riding relatively tame rides where you look at a large screen simulating motion, Disney has several of those. Just depends on the person.

I can’t do coasters so I try to get pics of my friends riding outdoor ones. This worked for Big Thunder and Seven Dwarfs.

That would make slinky tough especially since it’s open and you can see the ground! My son prefers not to go on it, but will take one for the team if we have an odd number group.

He doesn't want to watch them because he feels like it would ruin the experience... I've watched all of them and honestly, knowing him... I think it would. Thank you so much for your insight though! ❤
