Cm's suppose to stop group chanting

Who here actually thinks Disney will offend the gigantic cash cow that is the ____________ tour group?
Well unless they are lying to the OP and at least one other poster, DISNEY has already taken steps to offend them. The CMs are just not abiding by their policy. Not that I blame them. One CM going into a mass of 50 or more people/teens to tell them to stop doing something that they feel is ok to do could be scary.

I hope so. I would imagine it would be easy enough to find the leader since he holds the flag and ask that he stop the chanting. I guess at that point if they didn't security would have to be called if they really mean business with this policy. That will be where we see if they really are serious about this.

I think the large groups are a big enough problem (the groups are too big, should be broken down into smaller groups) but constant chanting two months of the year could start to have negative effect on their business. Look how many people on here avoid those months and advise others to do so.

The average WDW CM is probably not going to have an "alpha" personality. They are going to be intimidated by these large groups when they begin acting in unison. Whether it is their job or not, it is asking a lot of someone in that position to confront a group like this when they are breaking the rules. Managers and supervisors should be expected to do so, but I wouldn't expect the average CM to intervene.

IMO, CMs should be able to ask for help from a supervisor in these situations without having to get involved directly. This would probably keep them from just walking in the other direction when they see it happening. If you want policies to be successfully implemented, you have to consider things like this.

It won't be too hard of a policy to police. They need to put signs at all the entrances to WDW saying "Chanting, singing and cheering by large groups will result in immediate expulsion from the park for the day". Then whenever one of these large groups tries to enter the park a CM will inform the group leader of the new rule. A group that is chanting can be seen or heard from a long distance so if any group starts in then a dozen or so CMs should show up and escort them out of the park. That will put an end to it in a big hurry.

Even if they have an alpha personality many are college students or retired. Like I read on other threads you have no idea how someone will react when approached. I would also think CMs have been told not to go into situations that could be dangerous.

Maybe the best bet would be for the CMs to have security watch them.

You had me until you suggested that they would be escorted out of the parks - that just isn't going to happen. Policy or not, Disney isn't going to start throwing people out of the parks for chanting.

Still waiting to see just why they called? They didn't call me. What do they consider a "group" 3 or more, more than 20?

That would be a good show. 12 CM trying to roundup 50 or more group teenagers. Almost be worth the price of admission right there!:lmao:

Isn't being enforced-never has been, never will be-at least not in July and January-the number of Guests chanting/singing/clapping then is just STAGGERING-too many to realistically hope to stop.

JMHO!!!!

Maybe Disney could offer other Guests a discount in July and January-"Fifteen % For The Fifteens"!!!!lol:)

I do. A group of 50 is meaningless compared to the thousands of people who attend the park every day and are being offended by the chanting. They aren't going to get pissed off and never come back because they can't chant.

How many of the thousands offended complain? Or don't go back because of the chanting? Very few I bet.

Who honestly thinks CM would really be able to stop the behavior, just by telling them to stop? Anyone???

To me the chanting is no more annoying than people who walk 6 across. Or who stop in the middle of the path to look at their maps. Or people who toss their kids up onto their shoulders at the last minute, blocking the view of anyone behind them. It is best for your own sanity to ignore it as much as possible and go on with your day. Expecting the CMs to step in and truly fix the problem is expecting too much.

Just wanted to say when I was there in February, there was a large group chanting/cheering around the France area in WS I believe, I remember a CM running up to them and loudly saying "NO! You need to stop!", and they quieted down. I know this is a very isolated incident but I did experience a CM doing it!

I have seen CMs ask Cheer groups to stop throwing each other around, I assume thats more Health and Safety!

Excellent question. Seems suspect, unless OP is a CM or maybe lodged a complaint?
And if they lodged a complaint, Disney will contact them to tell them whatever it is they think the complainer wants to hear. If I complained that the Turkey Legs were too salty, I'd get a call from someone telling me that they are looking into a lower sodium version. Singing, cheering and chanting is what some large groups do. I have been down during weeks with cheer group competitions. You pit 50 cheerleaders from Tennessee against 50 from Alabama and they are all in line together for RnR, a friendly rivalry will break out and soon you have 100 loud girls chanting and singing. It amazes me that this is so off-putting to some. I really do get a sense of cultural bias bleeding through here.

I can only speak for myself, but I would find it just as annoying if it was Americans or Europeans or anyone.

We were there last week and a cm made a group leave the line at test track because they would not stop chanting and picking each other up. We saw another group calm down after being told to stop chanting or leave Philharmagic. Our guide told us that Disney is using more Portuguese speaking CMs to battle the "I don't speak English so I don't know the rules" behavior from the groups.

Yes,the Super Greeters in July have helped, but the Argentina girls resent them and basically ignore anything they tell them to do-interesting dynamic there.:)

DD worked there for last year and told me -

1) In training they are told if they are not comfortable addressing a situation they do not have to place themselves in to it, call a supervisor. Of course in this situation by time a supervisor arrives the group has moved on.

2) YES WE can help with the situation without inserting ourselves. Take a photo of the group and note where/when (their group name is on everything they wear and carry). WRITE an email to Disney with the photo reporting their behavior and reporting the tour guides behavior (they are often starting the chants etc). Disney takes note and with enough complaints a particular Tour Group company is not permitted back. Yes, the kids will just move to another tour group but the groups will be put on notice to keep control or risk a very lucrative business opportunity.

3) In talking to a few group leaders who were older women they discussed this. The older women said most the groups out of control are lead by young men who promote the behavior and do not discipline so they get bigger tips. They were just as embarrassed by this.

4) For me I also complain about the fact that only the BTG travel is such large packs with minimal guide-to-kid ratio. Disney can get better control by demanding that the ratio be closer to what they are for US school groups which is probably around 15 to 1. Make them bring more guides and break up into smaller groups. The mob mentality is difficult to get under control with groups as big as they are.

They absolutely can continue to visit and Disney get them under control with the banning of non-compliant companies, requiring greater adult/kid ratio, requiring they break up into smaller groups, more security at the resorts (paid for by the group), no placing families among them in the resort buildings and providing them their own buses to parks. One visit when leaving MK they were screaming and out of control approaching the bus queue. The transportation folks made them line up in the next queue and called for their own bus. Everyone in the resort line was talking about their behavior and thanking the transportation folks. Very easy to implement.

None of this is unreasonable nor difficult to implement. I know our school groups when on trips (Disney included) have adult/student ratios closer to 1 to 8, they provide their own buses to parks and when there are very large groups on trips they have to pay for security at the hotels. While some are continuing to compare them to cheerleaders or sports teams that travel to Disney there is a huge difference ......... numbers. I have never in all my years seen more than 9-10 cheerleaders together in the park, mostly less than 6, that is a big difference from the 30-50 you will see together in BTG. I have had cheerleaders practice/cheer at the hotel but I have never seen them cheer at a park.

Just wanted to mention they are not all "BTG"-MANY are from Argentina as well as smaller numbers from many other Countries.:)
