CMs saying Merry Christmas?

I would think CMs are told in general not to say Merry Christmas, because it is not PC to mention the name of our NATIONAL holiday :confused3 :rotfl: but how about during MVMCP? I said Merry Christmas to every CM because a) I wanted them to have a Merry Christmas and b) I was very curious if they could say the word Christmas at the Christmas party. I found only 1 who resonded in kind. It sort of shocked me, since I had happily paid $45 for the Christmas ticket and was clear what I was buying before I bought it. We were there in October and did not get MNSSHP tickets because we do not celebrate that holiday. If we had bought tickets, I would expect people to mention Halloween though.

What do you guys think? Disney is making lots of money on Christmas party tickets, but it is probably a fine line on how they should respond during the holidays. Probably nothing they said could please everyone.

It didn't dawn on me at the time, but perhaps none of the CMs celebrate Christmas and so it was not their instinct to respond that way.

I'm not looking for an ugly debate. Let's be kind to one another. I'm just curious about what you all think!!

What did the CMs say? Did they at least say Happy Holidays?

I wouldn't expect them to specifically say Merry Christmas because, as you say, you don't know what their religious backgrounds are, but I hope they gave you some kind of response, even if it was just "Enjoy your stay!"

I have found this debate over "Christmas" or "Holiday" to be totally out of control. I use both terms, sometimes in the same sentence, and have never had anyone get upset at me [or at least they didn't appear to be upset]. If someone says "Merry Christmas" to me I will respond in the same way. If I wish someone a "Merry Christmas" and they respond with "Happy Holiday" I am not upset, after all it is a holiday.

I got myself laughing the other day when a thought crossed my mind regarding UK Christmas traditions. What if people started to call "Father Christmas" "Father Holiday" instead. LOL

Yes, they were all very friendly and many had carried on nice conversations. They were never rude at all. :cheer2:

Either way is fine for me. I am not Christian - but don't get upset when people wish me Merry Christmas - and often I respond in kind back. I feel they are wishing a happy holiday season the way they are used too. :sunny:

Disney is not concerned about the PC issue associated with Christmas. This is evident by the fact that they have events such as Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party, or even more the CP at Epcot. If Disney wanted to fall for that PC crap over Christmas they would have already stopped the CP at Epcot, and it would be Mickey's Happy Holiday Party. Disney has no policy that prohibits CM's from saying Merry Christmas. As far as Disney is concerned, this is Christmas time.

Oh and Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you too!

For whatever reason, there are a number of people whipping up a frenzy claiming the words "Merry Christmas" are in danger. While there may be a few more "Happy Holiday's" and a few less "Merry Christmas" being said, you can rest assured that the reports of Merry Christmas' death are *vastly* overstated.

As for Disney, considering that the name of the event is Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, I'm pretty sure the words haven't been outlawed yet.

So Merry Christmas to All, and to All a Good-Night

We were there last Christmas and we had many cms tell us....Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas!!!!

Seems this is going around everywhere, and its driving me nuts, At my DD school and balet schoo is all about the winter celebrationl. But when I arrive at WDW on X-mas day I will be wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!!! :

It's been Christmas for a couple thousand years. If we have to stop saying Christmas, maybe we should stop buying and giving gifts because without Christmas, there never would have been the gift giving to start with.

I wonder if retailers would change their tune about the word 'holiday' if no one bought gifts anymore. :)

A Merry Christmas to everyone!

Not looking for flames, just my personal opinion.

Anyone else find the irony in the fact that wishing someone Happy Holidays is actually wishing them Happy HOLY Days.

Holidays is derived from Holy days. So, it's PC to say Holy Days, but now PC to say Merry Christmas?

Just confuses me.

Ummmm...I think there are Christmas trees everywhere, a Mickey's Very Merry CHRISTMAS Party, Santa Claus, Santa Goofy, Osbourne Christmas Lights, Candlelight Processional, and Santa's from "around the world" to name a few.

It is the season of Joy no matter how you say it or celebrate it.

If someone wished me Happy Hanukkah or Happy Kwanza, I would not be offended.

Merry Christmas and Peace to All

We were at MVMCP on the last Tuesday of November & I had several CMs wish me a Merry Christmas--
as the OP said if Disney had a rant on over Christmas, it would be out with the CP & MVMCP
I am not the least offended if the CMs wish me a Happy Holiday as their religions, or lack of religion, may not be the same as mine & I realize the best sentiments behind a well meaning phrase-
Yep, I agree this whole PC business is getting silly. I think it is so thoughtful to wish to respect others' faiths by a cheerful 'Happy Holidays'.
By the by my DMom was a Christian & they did not celebrate Christmas with gifts, they simply went to church & decorated--although no tree. they each got one gift on the Epiphany (still no tree)
I mean a Christmas tree is a Christmas tree & a 'Happy Holiday' is a good wish for the receiver to enjoy a lovely holiday, no matter what religion--
so Merry Christmas to All!
Happy Holidays to All!
