Anyway, I certainly don't want to bore you, but the process has been pretty exciting for only being 5 days along. I actually got 'recognized' at a local pizza place on Tuesday when I was standing at the buffet trying to decide between the salad and the meatballs (went with the salad, by the way!). A gentleman walked up, shook my hand, and said "I think I just voted for you right before I came to lunch today." It was pretty surreal!
Let's hear it for the U.S. Mail! Those things made it to Iowa, Oklahoma and Northern Virginia in two days! That's pretty good.
Well it definitely holds it's own alongside all those sponsor pins! They really are pretty sleek and official looking and I love the special packaging and bonus inserts!
Super-cool, Kenny!![]()

I think I'm going to hide your snow-castle photo from my DD5. (As it is, it took her a long time to forgive me for the puny snowman we made during one of our few half-decent snowfalls this Winter. Who can blame me? The kids' mittens were wet, and our hands were getting cold!)
Hey DISgeeks! My wife and I ran the Neptune 8K in 2006, I believe. We had a lot of fun.
We'd definitely need to train for a half... 8k (aka 5miles) is easy, as long as we're not trying to win.![]()
We'd have a blast running in WDW! That would be amazing!
Ok DISgeeks, I can't believe that it was nearly as bad as you give yourself credit for! Sounds to me like you're a very fun mom to get out in the snow and play with your daughter!
My 4 year old calls it "My castle" and wanted to know why it wasn't finished. She told me to "get back out there and get it finished." It was funny. I promised her that she could have a photo with it in her princess dress. Here's an updated photo...
Ahhh! You're very kind, tothesea!![]()
My kids and I do manage to have a lot of fun! (... just a little bit of self-deprecating humor on my part. I roll that way!)
I will say this, though: There is a shred of truth to my story. For several days afterwards (anytime we drove past our sorry little snowman), my precocious DD would ask me why we had to make such a small one. I had to keep reminding her that -- if she hadn't dragged her hands through the snow during our "toboggan" ride around the 'hood -- then we could have stayed outside longer... It's not like I hadn't warned her!
(How quickly kids forget -- especially when playing the sympathy "card"! Poor little neglected child!

Wow! Way to crack the whip! "Little Miss Future Upper-Management!"
Honestly, right now I'm not really concerned about the number of votes, I'm concerned about all of the relationships, friendships, moments of laughter, funny stories, and such that have developed. My local community and all of my friends from high school, college, church, and elsewhere have been so unbelievably supportive. That is what is making this such a neat experience for me.
So maybe your snowman was kinda like Charlie Brown's Christmas bush!![]()
Meggin, out of curiousity, how does one occasionally have access to some wdw tickets?????![]()
When I hit 70 lbs lost (9.5 lbs away), my husband has offered a Disney World trip as an incentive to reach the goal.....initially my 'reason' for losing weight was to make sure I fit on all rides, immature, yes, but very, very real. So, I will be back in 9.5 lbs!!!![]()
Anyhooooooooooo, any chance other DISers could score on these tickets too?![]()
Cato.... I just noticed your new avator. I LOVE it!!!!
Thanks - I figured since I wasn't going to be Andy-mated, I'd get cat-o-mated.
Some brief anecdotal reports I've heard include:
- A business teacher at a high school in southern NY used my video and the entire contest this week in her lesson plans as she taught her business classes about advertising.
- A high school librarian was at one point requiring a 20-vote minimum for all students wishing to use the computers during Study Hall
- I got an email from a friend of a friends, friends, husband (something like that) who was voting on his iPhone in the back of a cab in Manhattan.
- My fifth grade teacher (who is now living in Palm Springs) has had her entire Retirement Village voting
- The church at which I work also has a preschool with about 400 families. The preschool director printed up flyers to go home with every family and when I showed up to my office on Monday she had the secretaries and the entire staff wearing "Vote for Justin" stickers
- In another thread here on the DISboards I met a dad who is a real estate agent in my home town. His kids have my mom as one of their teachers in school and he was pumped to hear about the contest. He wrote a blurb about it in his e-newsletter that goes out to over 500 of his clients in our town.
Ann, what do you think of the Disney half marathon that got brought up today? I've NEVER done anything like that, but I've been thinking all day about how awesome it would be! It's not till Jan. 09, so we've got time! And like DISgeeks said, how cool would it be if some of us from here got to do it?!! You're on the way to it already, with a great head start!
I watched some stuff on youtube about it, and you get to finish up on Main Street and go through the castle!
Hey, Cat, I thought you might appreciate this: I was paging through this thread to show my DH a few funny posts from the other day. He made me stop when he spotted your new avatar. He then laughed out loud and said, "That's freaking awesome!"![]()
Wow! Not only is DISgeeks a fan, now Mr. DISgeeks? or is DISgeeks the family name (since it's plural?)![]()
Anyway, tell him thank you, and anytime he wants HIS own cat-o-tar, I'll be happy to get out my crayons!
