CM missing from Wonder 03/22/11??

Sady, bad things happen, everywhere, everyday. A cruise ship is a huge population. And Disney is no different. We are all saddened by the disappearance of a DCL CM. It is a horrible thing. But some here make it sound as if things are being hidden or not being looked into. How can anyone here, on these boards, say this kind of thing with any authority??

Yes, everyone sends prayers out to the poor family...understandably so. I can't imagine a worse thing for a parent. But, to post here about how worried you are about your children being watched over by 'who knows who' now is just a bit over the top. We have no idea what happened to this young woman. There are various scenarios. And most don't lead anyone to thinking about some kind of nut job watching our children in the kids clubs. I mean really??!!
But to come here, day after day, and complain about not getting info??? Seriously?? Do you really think Disney is going to allow their CMs to post on internet sites about anything they might know?? Yeah, sure that's going to happen. That CM would be out of a job so fast his/her head would spin.

Posting photos of this young woman? To what end??? I'm sorry, but I just think this is getting crazy. We may never know exactly what happened. I'm sure Disney is holding back the details on the last phone call for a reason. And I seriously doubt it's just to annoy DISers!!
Sorry but I just had to get that said. I feel awful for this poor family. And I hope, by some miracle, this young woman is found, safe and sound. But all the 'goings on' here on this thread are just 'out there'. We aren't getting info??? Seriously??? I can't imagine why anyone would think they should be getting more info. I doubt our children are in any kind of danger on the Wonder, or any other Disney ship.

I respect your opinion but its OK to have an opinion counter to yours. Frankly, nobody knows what the potential for an ongoing issue is until more info is released either officially or unofficially (which if judging by current events worldwide no info is kept secret despite company or gov threats. You simply don't know what the danger or "potential danger" is until you hear it from all sources.

To me its strange that you would surmise that despite no info coming out that everything is safe. You don't want people to speculate but you think everything is OK - just take DCL's word for it (but you are not speculating by saying that). Virtually every post on this board is about finding out what the right info is so that people can make informed decisions - and I want nothing more than to be able to utilize it in its intended function. I would rather err on the side of caution and insure that there isn't an ongoing issue.

wow what a horrible horrible event :(

Can I just suggest though that people do not use the uk's Daily Mail as a reliable news source. For those outside the uk, the Daily Mail presents itself as a serious intellectual news paper but is actually often unreliable and also often very distasteful on sensitive stories.

As for Disney's handling of this, I would assume Disney has major incident procedures in place for handling communications in these events. I know the company I work for has such major incident procedures and they were unfortunately used recently. We were all immediately reminded to follow them and to not inform anyone (whether we knew them or not) of anything and if someone did approach us and ask that we must immediately inform a company director. Unfortunately lawyers rule in these situations. Always.

Its not that im not interested its that there is no way for us to know, so why spend the rest of the day posting theories about the phone call? There is no answer, someone from DCL is not going to post and tell you that you are correct, it's pointless.

Trying to think objectively, it's a theory with merit.

As always...you hit the nail over the head:thumbsup2

All I can say to the people dragging this gossip along is that I pray something like this never happens to you and your families....but then you would understand why this thread needs to be closed.

I do pray like nothing like this ever happens to my family and as a father i'm doing my due diligence to insure it does not happen. Thread should be OPEN so that people can find out if their children are in danger or if the mood of the crew is understandably bad - after spending thousands on a vacation (I realize that goes from serious to self interested). Its not gossip and speculation to ask "what is DCL doing" "who will my kids be with" "is the ship full of depressed people". That is fair and is not sensationalist or disrespectful of the family or potential victim.

wishes from UK,Cheshire Brit UK!Safe return please of Rebecca(on news) and hugs to family!XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Apparently there are conflicts in the reports written by the various news sources. This is not random rumor, but reported by Cnn, Msnbc, and various other sources.

If your so bothered please refrain from commenting, just move on.

I'll be sailing soon on a Disney ship, and am very interested in how this tragic incident is being handled. Apparently many others are too.

Of course we have prayers for the families and other cast members. But, some things that are being reported by various news sources do not seem to add up.

I totally agree with you. Since this tragedy has happened where most of us have, will, and/or want to vacation, it is VERY MUCH our business. To find out as much as we can is just being responsible. I have read nothing tacky or insensitive in this entire thread! I would think the more information out there, the better.

Ah, what, bothered? I have been following this thread since the moment it appeared. My xomment is based on the fact that what you said would generate anger. Also CNN and others are quoting the unreliable info from one website. I cring when I read it because it is not reliable.

I have avoided posting on this thread, due to the fact that I don't personally think speculation is very helpful -the eventual findings will be of course, for all of us who cruise with DCL, but until investigations have been carried out, there is not much point in debating facts or rather non facts.

However, the following about the Daily Mail is not really accurate....

Can I just suggest though that people do not use the uk's Daily Mail as a reliable news source. For those outside the uk, the Daily Mail presents itself as a serious intellectual news paper but is actually often unreliable and also often very distasteful on sensitive stories.

The Daily Mail is to be honest, probably one of the more reliable sources of information, it isn't an 'intellectual' read by any means, but neither is it of the 'gutter tabloid' genre. Personally, If I read anything in the Mail, I would think it was reasonably reliable, well as reliable as any newpaper reporting would be without the real facts, 'unreliable and 'distasteful' are not words I would use when discussing the Mail, just wanted to put this right.

The family are local to us and there has been a great deal about the situation on our local news and in our town papers, but I don't feel it appropriate to relay any of that on here, it is none of our business, until investigations are complete.

I am absolutely amazed at the about of 'board rubber necking' that is going on within this thread. Astounding!

Good point. I don't trust that the news media is always entirely accurate. Case in point: last night DH and I hear on the news here in LA that Rebecca went missing off the coast of Cabo. Not true. We were a heck of a long way from Cabo in the early morning hours of Tuesday. We didn't even pass Cabo till late in the day. The coast of Baja California is long, and sparsely populated desert. Even at night you couldn't see lights from towns... it was pitch black. Searching the desert beaches there I'm sure is a challenge.

I am certain as well that Disney has major incident procedures- who is called, in what order, who makes statements, etc. That is not ONLY for legal issues but to allow for order in what can be a chaotic time. As PP have said, for the family there is never enough information. My heart breaks for them. I sincerely pray that she is found safe, and if not...that she is found.

As a guest onboard at the time, I can say that I never saw any guests being questioned nor did I hear of that from anyone. Like A Little Pixie Dust said, I did notice a thing or two onboard... when I thought the crew were searching...I know I myself looked a lot especially as I ran deck 4. I knew in my heart all those areas were searched but I couldn't help myself. I suspect many others felt the same way.

I can also reiterate, for the last time, that the crew were upbeat, gracious, friendly, and putting on a good cruise. There is no need to worry about being around "a ship full of depressed people". Geesh! Also, to continue to post "to get the latest information"...A Little Pixie Dust and I both were onboard, and both have post right after getting home. Saying the same thing. What more recent news do you want than same day information? And if you worry about who your children are with, then perhaps just don't use the clubs, or go during open house times when you can be there. Lots of people don't use the clubs for one reason or another, and have wonderful family cruises. I think that there have been thousands and thousands of CMs over the last what, 11 years? Dealing with thousands and thousands of children? I'd worry a lot more about your neighbors, or people down at the soccer field than the Youth Activities CMs somehow harming your child in some way.

I also disagree with calling the CM "a potential victim". There is nothing to suggest that there was any crime. I think THAT is where the speculation that is not helpful is coming in...sensationalizing a very sad situation. For those of you who are so concerned as to the safety of cruising on Disney, perhaps cruising simply isn't for you. People can and do fall overboard every single year. On all kinds of cruise lines. This is just the first time it's happened on Disney.

Okay, this is getting ridiculous.

Arguing about DCL's public relations or communication methods does NOTHING to assist with DCL Trip Planning. If you want to complain or spout about conspiracy theories, go start a thread on the Disney Rumors and News Forum. But be aware that our rules requiring posters to discuss issues respectfully apply fully there, and arguments or debates are not appropriate anywhere on our forums.

Some things I think we can agree on: Disney's Youth programs are awesome, and the CMs who have worked in this area agree that the atmosphere is happy and safe, and the CMs felt well-cared for. I know that my child and other children I personally know who have participated in the programs were thrilled with the staff and the attentive care and fun activities offered.

By all accounts, this CM was a lovely and loved young woman whose family and friends are lost without answers at this time. My heart breaks for them; losing a child and having so many unanswered questions would be unspeakably bleak, frustrating and heartbreaking.

There is NO indication that DCL has mishandled any aspect of this event, or that there is any danger to either crew or guests.

With that said, there will be NO MORE conspiracy whispers or discussion of what any one thinks DCL could have done differently, or hints of some ridiculous cover up on this thread. No more discussion of "suspect" news reporting. This is the Disney Cruise Trip Planning Forum; take any of the analysis or criticism to a thread on the Rumors and News forum.

Any additional posts counter to this instruction will be deleted with no explanation due to the poster.

Thanks for your cooperation.

I think I have had just about enough that I can cope with from this thread.

Several moderators have asked that the speculation be stopped and still people persist with the 'what ifs' and 'my cousin's dog's friend's husband heard from his hairdresser a rumour that...'.

CandyMandy - one of the main things "causing tempers to really start to flare in the UK" at the moment is you! Please do us all a favour and keep your opinions, conspiracy theories and unhelpful remarks to yourself.

I'm sure Rebecca's family are searching all avenues to find her and I so hope that they don't come across this thread in the state it has descended into.

The people posting on this thread are not family; they have no right to be told what is going on in the investigation; no-one here should feel the need to phone DCL/CNN or anyone else demanding information/investigation/re-assurance etc.

For those that are thinking solely of themselves and have suddenly felt that DCL is not a safe place for them to vacation then please a) stay at home, because you will never find a vacation spot that is 100% safe and b) think about what is really important in this situation - the family who are missing their daughter and who don't know what has happened to her.

I know who I am thinking about and praying for.

Here Here!!! I agree!

YES! Exactly!!

I know who I am thinking about and praying for.

::yes::
And that family will need support and love for sometime to come. :(

I have read this thread from the beginning, hoping each time I see a new post that there will be positive news.

I have chose to ignore the speculations and rumors and some post which appear to be pure fabrications.

My heart aches for the mother and father of this young girl. It aches for her extended family who must have loved her very much. It aches for her friends and coworkers with whom she shared her daily life with upon the Wonder. And it aches for those of us whom, even though we only know of her from a casual encounter on our vacation or from reading about her here on the disboards, that she has become like our daughter or our friend. A daughter or a friend that is now lost.

So, even if it is only through cyberspace, I would like to offer to those who knew and loved Rebecca a warm embrace of comfort and a sincere hearfelt prayer that she is returned home.

My DW and I had a wonderful time last September on the WBTA cruise.....I was on this thread last year like every day...we became like family on the thread....I tend to read and post occasionally and I have found these boards to be a great source of information.....and I have come back to this thread as a source of information about the missing cast member.....we should say prayers for Rebecca and her family and her many friends....and please let it be. Now I know why I really don't get involved much with postings much anymore on the DISboards. Peace--love--and happiness to all. May God bless you also.

there was this one time at band camp...........................................

let's get back to why we're all really here. Cruizing baby. Cruizing!!!!!

:thumbsup2

Time to put this thread to rest and mooove on! :)

:thumbsup2, I've been thinking this as well

I agree
It's about time to get back to normal here:thumbsup2
Life does go on

While I agree that for the rest of us life goes on, and that this is the cruise board, but this thread is about prayers for Ms.Coriam and for her family and for her coworkers. If you want to plan a cruise or simply enjoy each other's company, I can understand this, but please start another thread. Many of the CMs on the ship read this thread and I'm sure they would appreciate at least a couple of more days of respectful thoughts. Thanks everyone.

And we all know that the news media is always 100 percent accurate, right?

The only fact that anyone has gotten correct is that someone is missing. Someone's daughter, friend, colleague, confidant. A human being who had feelings, ups and downs, love to give and was loved dearly by many. STOP minimizing this. Pray for her family and friends. This is what is needed, not all the ridiculous bickering and speculation.

Please.

Well, I for one have been visiting this website in the hopes of hearing that this family may have the answers that they are desperately seeking.
I have a daughter slightly younger then Rebecca and she lives 1200 miles away from me, so as a parent I always have that little concern when I don't get to see her everyday.
I can not imagine the desperation that this family is feeling and wish there were something that anyone can do to help alleviate the pain.
People by nature will speculate and infer, so I am hoping that this investigation will bring an end to all of this soon. While I am hopeful for the family that they are brought some type of closure it will never end the pain of losing their wonderful daughter. As another poster stated you can not explain all that happens, but in time you must accept it and move on. My heart hurts for this family, I hope they are given an answer about the disappearence of their daughter soon, so they may start to rebuild their lives.
