CM insults child in stroller

Rude is rude, whether you say it to a person's face or post it on the DIS.
If the OP is happy and her child is happy with the stroller than it is their business, not the Cm's or anyone else's.
Come on folks, lets please start the new year off with kind thoughts for our fellow DISers. :grouphug:

Please remember that Disney is for everyone to enjoy and by putting a post on here you will always have people who will put you down for your beliefs and opinions.

What a sad commentary but true. It is possible for people to provide their thoughts on a subject without putting other people down and being insulting. It's too bad we don't do a better job of that here.

Hey Mickeyfan2,
Happy New Year!!! too much champagne here to think up a good one. Only 3 more months until Villas at Wilderness Lodge sans strollers. (LOL)
Happy New Year to you to eliza61 Have fun at WDW! Can I come to and you can push me in a stoller? :rotfl2:

Since the OP was about Rude CM at MGM, I would like to add a couple of the street performers were hysterical when we were there, one the gum shoe type female, and her strollin bf, dd 9 had her bday button on and he gave her "20 bucks, buy yourself somethin pretty"

LOL yep, he was rude withmost of his comments out of context, but while strollin MGM, and then when he ended the walk with giving dd 20 bucks, it was hysterical :rotfl2:

Its hard when you take things out of context, and the street performers do a lot of performing, and guests come in and out, not staying...

Yeah and not that it matters, my 3 year old uses a stroller but my 6 year old does not. However, if she wanted to swap off with her sister, I would see no problem with it. Usually though, she's leading me by the hand to the next ride and she doen't have time for me to push her. :)

And I can see a 6 year old needing or wanting to swap with the stroller. But at that age the 3 year difference between your 6 year old and a 9 year old is a BIG three years.

Oh I agree about that. However, I have more important things to worry about at WDW than whether a kid is too big for a stroller. For example, will I get to Dumbo before I'm trampled? :rotfl2:

As previously stated, my DD and DS both used strollers and neither seems to be too emotionally damaged because of that "experience". My DD is a sophomore in college and making great grades (pre-law), but I will have to let her know that I abused her by letting her use that awful stroller at WDW. :rotfl: Now, as far as DS goes, he is so laid back, he would probably still use a stroller, if he weren't 6'5".

Maybe in today's world some kids are way too cool to do this, but a decade plus ago, we had lots of parents that told us they wished they had strollers for their elementary-school age kids. And, no, we did not use them as battering rams; I hate that behavior, too.

Whoa! I wonder how differently this thread would have turned out if the OP's child actually was disabled and needed the stroller and the CM made the same comment?

But the OP said "what IF" the child was disabled. She wasn't offended at the time, but made a statement that it would have been an insensitive if her child, or someone else's, was in of the stroller for a medical reason.

True the CM had no way of knowing why the child was in a stroller, all the more reason to be a bit more thoughtful before making the comment.

I'm not a big supporter of PCism, but in this case, I see the OP's point. There are many disabilities that aren't obvious, that can't necessarily be "seen" so why take the chance of making a comment like that to a child who might already be self concious about the stroller, but doesn't really have a choice?

But when you post it here on a message board looking for input you are bound to get negative as well as positive responses, correct? If a poster is so confident in their choice(s) then they shouldn't be upset by opinions differing from theirs.

Yes it is your right to put your kids in strollers, but is this something you would do at your local mall?

:rotfl2: Enough said..

I'm impressed you managed to get the kids to go in a stroller....my (then) five year old son said last year at Disney -
'Why are all the big kids in strollers? They look just like babies'!

Please note these are his words not mine!

But then he did manage to outlast both DH and I every night and still be first up in the morning!

May I please remind everyone that personal attacks are not wanted, nor are they needed. In fact - they're against the rules! :goodvibes

We all have an opinion, and we welcome you to express it. However, it needs to be in a way that doesn't insult anyone else.

I don't think the CM should have made snide comments in case the 9 year old did have a disability.

According to the OP's post, it wasn't "a" 9 year old, they had three 9 year olds in strollers plus a younger child. It had to have been an interesting sight. :goodvibes

When I was a kid 12 years, my parents (and me and my brothers) pushed my 9 year old sister around Europe one summer so we wouldn't have to listen to her complain about being tired. We still kid her about it if we are talking about that trip. That said, I let my 9 year old DD share a double stroller with her little brother at WDW three years ago. It was more aggravation that it was worth because she wanted to hop out constantly, then get back in for a few more feet, etc. etc.

At MGM, it is the CM's "business" as they are looking for people to "pick on" so to speak. Many occassions I have heard them comment on slow poke Grandpa, someone's touristy dress attire and other things. Take a joke people without getting bent out of shape about it.

And come on - three 9 year olds in strollers would definitely be a sight to see!

As a mom of 2 children with Cerebral Palsy and other special needs, we rented the stroller for our trip last month. My children's disabilities will always have us using strollers for them as they cannot walk long distances and have endurance problems. (They do not need a wheelchair as they are ambulatory- it is more of an endurance and balance issue). If that CM had innocently made that comment about my kids, I would be offended. In my humble opinion, that is a dangerous comment, whether it was intended to be a joke or not. Many people use strollers for kids for all types of issues such as ADHD, autism, CP. Having a child with a disability in a stroller is many times also a safety issue (they may be a wanderer, unaware of stranger issues, or feel more secure in a stroller). You would not know my kids are disabled just by looking at them. Remember, many disabilities are hidden and you can not see them by "looking".

And if a healthy 9 year old wants to ride in a stroller, no big deal. I wish I had a stroller at WDW. I was tired too!

Thanks for saying that. I have a 10 year old with CP and a big 8 year old with Autism and will rent strollers for both of them on our next trip. Yes the 8 year old will probably look silly in the stroller but it's the only way he can cope with the crowds. It's his "shelter" and if anyone has a problem with that I would be glad to let them walk around with us w/out his stroller and see what happens.

Nine in a stroller seems to be over the top babying. My DD9 is reading over my shoulder and she laughed at the very idea of using a stroller anytime or anyplace.

Many years back, my DD8 thought we were "babying" my DS4 by getting a stroller. Guess what! By 6 pm she was complaining that DS would not give her a turn in the stroller. She was tired. I, of course, used this as a wonderful opportunity to teach her NOT TO judge people..there is always two sides to every story.

BTW-we gave her a turn and everyone was happy! It's the happiest place on earth.

Just trying to spread a little disney magic :wizard:

People here can be so mean and insulting. Its pretty sad. So she posted looking for comments, that means its ok to be rude.

I think it was rude of the CM and that is MY opinion.

I stopped the stroller for my older DD at age 6 but have rented a double at MVMCP/MNSSHP for them to share with my older DD as old as age 9.

I have one stroller I bring for younger DD who has hidden health issues at age 6 and my older DD sometimes begs me to let her ride it near the end of the day. So once in awhile, for just a little while, she borrows her little sister's stroller. No biggie. Wish I could too!

Happy New year!

My almost 8 year old and almost 5 year old WILL be in stroller in Disney World. My almost 8 year old is chronically anemic, has very low muscle tone and a whole other host of problems which would not be obvious to any judgemental folk taking a look at him in a stroller and making comments. Thankfully I have had 8 years of dealing with the ignorance so I just let it roll.... :)
