The CM took a chance - but he was/is doing his job....if OP felt so strongly she/he should have said something, maybe individually to the CM or asked to speak to a manger. The same type of things happen at comedy clubs....(well, mainly with adults). They make fun of hairstyles, clothes, you name it, but it's all about a sense of GOOD HUMOR.

I have NEVER been past those CM's at MGM without hearing them make fun of someone/something or each other.

And, not that it is ANY way right, if the child had a disabilty and at that age - wouldn't he or she be used to - well, not used to because I would hate to think it happens all the time, but be prepared for comments? I know that would hinge on a lot of factors, but even kids at school are MEAN, and I am sure they say much meaner things that the comment made by the CM.

Every person/child is brought up differently.

Yes unfortunately he is used to comments, kids are cruel...their parents even worse. Yes they do say things meaner than the cm did...however this is the place he feels the most accepted, he loves it ar WDW and looks up to cm's. To have one make him feel like this would be extremely shameful.

But I will tell him to suck it up...after all having a disability means that you can expect remarks so he must learn to get over it.

Guess it's my fault i should bring him up differently...teach him to have a thicker skin...thanks for the advice.

Sorry dlf, but strollers are not for carrying cooler bags into the parks - let's not even get into that debate here either, but I as well as my hubby and DD2 have been knocked into many times with people carrying huge cooler bags. Again, you've proven my point - too many people go to Disney World thinking of themselves instead of all of the other people whom they are going to inconvenience. A stroller is for a young child, period, end of story. I'm so tired of hearing, "None of your business" or "Do what you want and who cares about other people!" The problem with these responses is that they are selfish in nature. Big kids in strollers are an inconvenience to many other people as are those of you who carry in huge cooler bags, luggage, etc.

If only more people would think of others besides themselves, WDW would be so much more enjoyable for us all!

When we spend 12 hours in the parks it's a lifesaver. It's also very helpful for carrying the bags around - especially the large cooler bag we always end up taking!

that's just it....that is pushing everyone and then of course who wouldn't need a stroller.....???? For us as a family, I am on vacation to relax, not to push ourselves to the limit. My children are used to 9 hours at school and then coming home

Their park strategy is just that.. theirs. Why sit here and critique their preference?

Exactly!

My very active, very healthy 9yo would be mortified if I even tried to put him in a stroller. If he gets tired we simply find a bench and take a break.

That is the thing. Any able bodied 9 year old (not ill or injured) knows they are too old for a stroller and are a little embarased to be there. However for what ever reason the being pushed wins over being embarased at the end of the day. That is fine with me.

However the Joke is just 9 year old humor. It really is. (No one said 9 year old humor is good or even partically funn!) :teeth:

I would guess that is this street performer's (not a normal CM) standard joke. He most likely see a number of them every day and says something ever school aged kid (or older) he sees in a rented stroller.

Unfortunatley many adults don't understand that all children are different. Just like there are adults that like to get up at 4am and run 3 miles every morning there are adults that don't. Neither lifestyle is "right", it's what is "right" for you.

Well, even at WDW there are several places where IT IS THE CM'S JOB to poke fun so if you can't have a good sense of humor about it don't go. I am not saying "suck it up" and nor did I say that in my post. My mother and sister both have "unseen" disabilites and until recently my sister was a CM - one who most probably ran into at the MK recently.

I teach my children that everyone is different regardless of ability....and if they had a disbility I would teach them about those who simply do not understand and thus feel the need to make comments.

I am sorry - to think you live in a perfect world where no one is going to judge/comment/whatever a person with disbilities is just not the case. ......and I don't think that is right but it is the truth.

Why hello Matt,
If you read the post you will see I am not CRITIQUING their strategy simply stating (I could care less) - that who the heck wouldn't need a stroller in anticipation of 12 HOURS OF GOING STRONG!!!

My God, if more people in the world would realize this we'd be better off.

I've read all your posts and I still don't see why you're concerned.

When you post something on a PUBLIC MESSAGE BOARD, you should expect people to have a different opinions. If you do not want people to disagree with you, then DON'T POST.

By the way, Lilygator, I agree that a 12 hour day in a park is not a vacation.

I think a healthy (without any limitations) 9 year old in a stroller is ridiculous.

oh and by the way - we have been seated to many a 12 hour strategy family at a nice dinner and their tables have always seemed somewhat strained....

and the only reason we notice is the LOUD factor that always seems to happen.

OH MY - WHAT IS FLORIDA COMING TO????

FSU!!! We agree!! and actually - I think this may be a second time in all of my time here on the DIS!!
