CM incorrectly applied 50% off code (for employees) then had to remove it

I phoned today to cancel the reservation I made online before free dining came out and after I did this I asked if there were any discounts attached to my account that I could apply to the room only reservation I have before my free dining reservation. The CM did a search and I was elated when she said yes, there is a 50% off code she can apply!!! After applying it, the balance was only $16.87 as I had already paid the deposit so I decided to pay the rest off during the call. I gave her my credit card information and then she asked me for my cast number but thought she said cash number and had no idea what she was talking about. After some confusion she asked, are you not a cast member, are you not a disney employee? I said no. She said sorry and that the system put me through the employee line! She then said she would have to remove the discount code as they would ask me for my employee ID when I check-in. She searched for another code and there wasn't anything else, so I was back to the amount I started with. While I wasn't completely unhappy with what I had initially, it was depressing to go from thinking I have a 50% discount for several minutes, to not having anything. I have no idea why the automated system put me through the employee line, as I keyed in my reservation number, phone number and said my postal code correctly.

You would think the CM would have confirmed whether or not I was an employee right at the beginning of the call, before going through all the motions of adding an employee discount code. It's strange that the system even allows a code like that to be applied to my account in the first place! Also, if I was actually an employee I most likely would have outright asked for my employee discount to be applied to my reservation, and not asked for her to check the system to see if there was a discount that COULD be applied to my reservation. I also probably wouldn't have been so shocked and elated to hear I had a 50% discount and I wouldn't have had to ask her to repeat the amount (at first I thought she said 15% because I wasn't expecting to hear 50%). Has anyone else experienced this?

Wouldn't you know, seconds after I posted this, and only maybe 10 minutes since I got off the phone with the CM (and took the exit phone survey) I got an email from Disney Destinations with an offer for 35% off deluxe and deluxe villas and 25% off moderate and value for stays most nights 9/18–11/18 & 11/26–12/22/11!!! That just can't be a coincidence right? Has anyone else received that email?

I can understand feeling disappointed, but I don't get the "feeling cheated" part of your post.

That totally stinks!! I hope she was polite about her mistake though....and didn't yell out 'PSYCH!!" like a 12 year old kid.

Iron Giant -- you can't tell me that you would not have been completely thrilled that it was applied and then given your new total due --- to just have it ripped away seconds later....

with all do respect, theres not a living soul walking the planet that is perfect.

That discount you received after the call was most likely triggered by either the cast member or their supervisor. Just goes to show that the cast member knew they messed up and was trying to possibly right something wronged. Kudos to the CM for not just blowing off their mistakes.
hopefully after all is said and done you can take advantage of that % off.

That stinks about the 50% off... but the discount in the email you got is great! See! There's always a happy ending at Disney! :goodvibes

50% off, didn't the alarm bells go off? It certainly would have for me. I have heard off 40% off, but never 50% off.

If there were actually non employee 50% off codes floating around, the DISboards would be all over that.

If it sounds too good to be true.......

WOW! SO sorry for that:(

Thanks for the support! It all worked out in the end though. :)

I can understand feeling disappointed, but I don't get the "feeling cheated" part of your post.

You may be picking apart my words a bit...it wasn't quite the same feeling as being disappointed, it's kind of like feeling led on or tricked...just a way to describe how I felt in that brief moment.

I fully understand that nobody is perfect and I wasn't trying to blame the CM 100% for what happened, it was first and foremost the mistake of the phone system for putting me into the employee cue. I didn't once make her feel as though she made a mistake, I didn't complain to her or get upset, and I still gave her a good rating when I did the phone survey.

That totally stinks!! I hope she was polite about her mistake though....and didn't yell out 'PSYCH!!" like a 12 year old kid.

LOL no she didn't do that at all. :) She was very apologetic and tried looking for another code for me but the ones coming up weren't for the dates of my reservation. She suggested that I phone back in October and said there's a good chance there will be codes for my dates at that time.

That there is! I was able to call back and apply the 25% off code so it all worked out in the end!

Yes I was definitely shocked, like I mentioned in my original post I thought she said 15% and asked her for clarification. I thought that these kinds of codes are attached to your account so I didn't think to question it to that extent. Besides, who would argue when someone is telling you you're getting a 50% off discount! I've also read on this board that if you're told you have a discount to get it applied right away, because sometimes when they search again they can't get the original one back, or if you call back it may not be available anymore. She was able to actually enter it and give me a final balance and did in fact put a charge through on my card for the extra $16+ to pay it off. I've never been a CM so I don't know how their employee discounts work, don't know how much they are, and I had no idea that employee discounts are in the form of codes similar to what they apply for everyone else.

Now I know so if it happens again I'll know to question it! I guess my main reason for starting the thread wasn't to be negative or complain but I was very curious to find out if this has happened to anyone else and in order to ask I had to explain the situation. I can't be the only one on here that has been mistakingly put into the employee cue! If I am, then boy was that ever a fluke. :)

I saw another post where someone just got that e-mail. What on earth do I have to do to get one???

So if other people are getting it, that means I most likely didn't get it because of the phone call, or maybe participating in the phone survey triggered it? What a weird coincidence!

The 35% off is the latest pin. Thankfully, some guests I've come across have had it when changing flights for fd wouldn't work for them.

I made ressies at WL a few years ago with a code and the price they quoted for the week seemed really low, so I paid with a cc over the phone. As I was asking some questions I calculated out the price and it was way too low, under $40 per night. I had a difficult time getting the CM to understand that the price had to be a mistake. I had to insist on the intervention of a supervisor to pay the correct amount. Very weird.

Being cheated implies You were entitled to the discount and they used some type of dishonest behavior to deny you access.

They made a mistake and then corrected it. No cheating going on that i see. Just my two cents.

I agree. I read the title for the thread and thought that the CM had input it wrong the first time, and then the availability was gone, when she tried to enter it again.

I'm glad you got some kind of discount. I'm sure it would have been frustrating to me if I had seen the lights of a 50% off discount shining in my face, then found out that not only there was no 50%, but nothing.

I recieved the email also for the room discount the other day. I have never booked a trip with Disney DH takes care of all that. I do however order the CD as soon as a new one comes out. :)

Sorry to hear about the mistake. I know I would be sad about it but at least you were able to apply another discount.

Enjoy your Disney Vacation. :thumbsup2

Sounds like there was some sort of technical error that misdirected you to the cast member...not a mistake on her part. Not really getting why you'd feel cheated over a simple mistake :confused3 Disappointed that your excitement was dashed...sure, I'd feel disappointed too, but cheated? Not so much.

Just wanted to let you know that I also got that email sent to my 3 email address. Also I don't think that it was triggered from the CM or doing the phone survey.:confused3

Please read post #8 regarding the word cheated and how I wasn't blaming the CM 100% for what happened and at no point was I rude to her and I still gave her a good score in the phone survey. It was just a word I picked at the time to describe how I felt at one point in time. I have removed that from the subject so as not to cause anymore confusion or negativity. I was strongly disappointed because I really need any help I can get financially right now (going through a break-up and have to move to a more expensive place next month) and it made me feel really happy and lucky and breath a sigh of relief, only to be told several minutes later and after a new credit card transaction (which means I've also now paid a higher deposit then I had to), that it was a mistake and it had to be removed. It's like if someone were to give you a gift and then take it back or being told you won an award then after it is presented to you, being told it's actually for someone else and it ws given to you by mistake. Hopefully these analogies better describe the feeling. I did have hope afterwards though that a % off deal would come out, I just didn't expect to get it so soon!!! Even though it's not as high as 50% I'm still very happy with the 25% off that I was able to apply to the reservation. I'm still floored by the crazy coincidence and that I received the pin email so soon after something like that happening! I guess the universe is looking out for me after all. :)

Eh.

My comment was directed at the original title of the thread.

I hope you enjoy your trip. :)
