Clown thing in BWV

Interesting concept cheyita - I personally loved the circus when I was a child and loved how they'd come into town into the then Boston Garden. I actually got a kid thrill when I saw the elephants on the Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge (but then no clowns were around). Totally off topic, but then it was my original question so I can reply right ?! :p I remember starting to dislike them when I was a pre-teen, my friend had a clown picture on the wall in the family room of the split level and I recall hating to be the last down there or the first because of those creepy eyes. Can't recall what started it - may have been a horror movie - don't know. I do know that I'm dreading taking my daughter to the circus but I'll grin and bear it as I don't want her to have the same phobia. - Back on topic - I'll maybe one day try BWV and perhaps this coming trip I'll actually walk over and see the resort. That in itself would be a big accomplishment for me and no I will not be going to the pool area. I'm only going to be there a short time I don't need nightmares this trip and I'm not ready to do the grin and bear it routine for DD. ;)

IT, the book, was written long before the design of BWV...I recall reading it when I was in high school....great book, btw.

Clowns are not on the top of my list, as far as things I find attractive and amusing....and since reading IT they do kind of freak me out. However I am an owner at BWV. At the time it was a matter of liking the location and theme more than OKW. Another part of our decision is that my second favorite place to spend a vacation is Rehoboth Beach DE, a place I've visited frequently since I was a child....boardwalk, ocean, and a place called Funland, whose logo is also a clown. The Funland clown doesn't remotely resemble the BWV clown....but I think if you look at him enough he's at least equally freaky looking. Then they also have this "mermaid" over one of the kiddie rides who I often refer to as "the hag"...she's pretty awful looking. So, I guess I do sort of associate fun vacations with semi-disturbing images...LOL.

I do much prefer the theme of VWL....but I like the location and option of standard view at BWV. Actually I'm coming to love all the DVC resorts. And luckily...I've never had a Luna Park view...and kind of hope I never do.

I really like the Luna Park theme! Wow, I would have never thought so many people were disturbed by it. That's ok, you guys can all go stay somewhere else and then I will have no problem getting a room!:p

by the way I have seen IT - great movie.

Personally, I think the Clown Face was put up at the request of BWV owners to keep the other people out of their pool!!! :p

I'm with Lexxi on this one. The more people that stay away, the better my chances of going home to BWV whenever I want.

I'm thinking that, maybe the lifeguards could dress as the Bearded Lady or as Gator Boy.

I was at BWV recently and at night the clowns eyes glow red and a sinister laugh can be heard. Mwwwha...haaaa...haaaaaaa.

ROTFL!!

I'm not afraid of clowns, but I have an intense dislike for them. I just think they are evil. That said, I have taken my kids to Luna Park pool and we are spending one night at BWV this July at the end of our trip and that doesn't bother me in the least. Of course I won't go down the slide!

I think my dislike comes from seeing the movies "Magic" and "Poltergeist" as a kid. The clown coming to life and attacking the little boy - way too much for me! Having read IT and about John Wayne Gacy as a teenager just kind of sealed the deal for me. I won't ever like them.

BTW, if the clown at BWV's Luna Park looked anything like the clown on that link provided, I wouldn't ever go there. Creepy!

"It" is only a problem if you drive there in your car named "Christine" with your dog named "Cujo".

My kids don't act like "Children of the Corn" so it doesn't cause me any "Misery".

So "The Stand" that I think Disney takes is that it is just one of those "Needful Things" you'll find there.

Sorry I couldn't find any way to work "The Tommyknockers" in there.

"Personally I think they should turn the clown around so you have to slide INTO its mouth!!!!! Now that would be freaky! "

Well if your at the top of the stairs and entering the clowns mouth, what are you exiting from at the bottom of the slide ???

Oh this Beachworld saga will give me serious Insomnia should I continue reading these posts. I will see The Shining light of the Clowns face in my minds eye which will surely awaken me into a state of Rage. I can then see myself awaken in a cold sweat screaming, sprint out of bed and become a crazy Running Man racing The Boogeyman wishing that I had used a Dreamcatcher

John...interesting sites there. Thanks! In the one picture you can see how faithfully they reproduced the roller coaster look. And instead of a scary clown, they have a scary dude on the one building! :p

But the BW clown is nice. :teeth:

You guys are not helping me at all with the pictures. At least with the links I can choose to avoid them.

Really, that clown could give me nightmares. I always think of the clown doll from "Poltergeist." And if you did like clowns, how could you after Stephen King's "It." After I read it, I never looked at clowns the same.

I never knew about "clown fear" until we were blessed by youngest DS. Among his many fears, he greatly fears clowns. However, in trying to talk him thru it, he explained that the thing he hates most about clowns is that they have "really big feet". Clown feet are not part of BWV theming & he has never expressed concern about Luna Park. But we have only stayed for 1 short stay at BWV & we didn't use the pool.

For anyone interested, the IT mini-series? starring John Ritter was shown on the Sci-Fi channel last night (didn't watch it, never want to)

Just thought it was an eerie coincidence

Wow! We should start a fear of clowns support group! My family loves to make fun of me and my fear - my kids DS9 & DD6 love to point out every creepy clown they see!!!

I also do not like Mardi Gra masks. Anyone have the same two phobias?

Strangest thing though..... my favorite holiday is Halloween and the creepy gory blood dripping horror masks are my favorite!

Go figure:smooth:

ya know...now that I really look at it...the BWV clown isn't scary, just ugly. But hey, if it keeps other people out of our pool...fine! The rest of the resort is beautiful!

If you look at the clown late at night, it changes facial expressions. His mouth closes, and he looks in a different direction. Folks, this is not your average pool slide.

That along with the houskeepers knocking at my door dressed as clowns, really freaked me out.

Sorry, couldn't resist
