Clothing for American Girl dolls

I disagree, the AG outfits are so much nicer. Watch the AG website, they have monthly sales. DD got a lot of My Generation clothes (Target) and they don't fit as well and the quality is not at all comparable, we ended up selling them at our garage sale. DD likes her dolls dressed in their clothes from the time period they come from so each doll have 1 or 2 outfits and that's it. We have a lot of clothes that Jess, Kailey and Nicki wear.

This has been our experience as well. My DD couldn't even get the Target shoes on her AG doll's feet! And, the clothes would never fasten all the way.

We always bought AG clothes on sale from the AG site's clearance section. In addition, I would buy patterns and fabric remnants at JoAnn's and make my own clothes.

However, I did buy all of DD's doll accessories (bed, tent, scooter, etc) from Target and we were very happy with them.

My dd is all about that! She has of the matching clothes and pj's. On our last trip to AG Chicago, she was wearing the Kit outfit and had her Kit and just purchased Ruthie. She got TONS of attention and then we even met the girl that plays Ruthie in the movie! She came up to my dd just because she was wearing that outfit! You better believe, my dd will continue to wear them for a while now! LOL

I know my girls would LOVE to have matching AG clothes. They would be in heaven.

As far as storage. For DD's first AG Santa brought her a great mahogany trunk (from Michael's). It has a great clasp, one side for doll and other side with rod for hanging clothes and 2 drawers below. It is great.

Another hint....at the craft stores they sell really cute brass hangers for the clothes.

OP, there is a code for $10 off $30 at American Girl that expires today. You can use it multiple times, that may help with an outfit and some accessories. There is a thread here that has the code in it.

My dd had AG clothes, Target brand and clothes made by Gotz. The AG were definitly the best of the three.

I agree that AG clothes are the way to go. My 8 yo dd is not into the matching clothes, but loves to have matching pj's to her dolls. Right now in the sale section of AG, there are blue pj's for dolls and girls for half price. I just ordered them with the $10 off code and that will go under the tree. The combo was I think $25 with the code. The quality of the girls pj's is also great. I think you would be one cool aunt with that combo!!!

I just bought two trunks for my DDs on Friday from Hobby Lobby. They were 50% off and only cost $12.50 each!!! And they are gorgeous! They had all of their trunks up to $49.99 for 50% off.

As a Mom with two DDs who are AG fanatics - go with the AG clothes. I bought some of the Target clothes just for them to have extra clothes and they don't fit correctly and one actually ripped - the shoes do NOT fit the AG dolls.

As far as the Target storage closet - I got it last Christmas and it has not held up very well, my DH has had to fix it a couple of times. It may be that since my DDs are always opening it and leaving the doors open that it's gotten broken but a neighbor has the AG closet and that hasn't happened to it, so.....my DDs are getting the AG one when we go to AGPNY after Christmas.

I got my niece an outfit and the storage trunk from AC Moore. Ac Moore also had extra little wire hangers that fit nicely inside. She LOVED it. She keeps her doll and all her clothing inside. She has asked for more AG stuff this year so I'll probably do an outfit for her bday, and an outfit plus maybe I'll make her a bed for her doll for Christmas.
