Sometimes going shopping is a lot like the Bernstein Bears book, Old Hat, New Hat.
Some of the clothes are so out there! Exposing this and that. Too tight here and there. Itty bitty garments. Then there is the other extreme of clothes that are for the senior citizens. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
I like classics, but I like to pair them up with some trendy stuff (not too trendy). What brands do you gravitate towards?

I hate frumpy, old-lady clothes though, and dread the day when I truly am too old to wear what I like.
I'm surprised you say the clothes are expensive, though. In our area they are very reasonably priced.
Levi's jeans. Not the old style, mom fit levis, but the newer fits that sit just below the waist and are boot cut:
So I buy lots of long tanks in tons of colors, fabrics, and styles to go under shirts. Button down shirts and fitted polo shirts are my old standby. They can be dressed up or down depending on the pants and whether you layer a jacket over them. I get most at Kohls or Target. I finally broke down and started trying everything on before bringing it home, because everything (like you said) is made for 12 year old girls or 70 year old ladies. Once I find a style I like, I buy it in every color I like.
