Sometimes going shopping is a lot like the Bernstein Bears book, Old Hat, New Hat. Some of the clothes are so out there! Exposing this and that. Too tight here and there. Itty bitty garments. Then there is the other extreme of clothes that are for the senior citizens. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I like classics, but I like to pair them up with some trendy stuff (not too trendy). What brands do you gravitate towards?

I am a big fan of Express. Their clothes fit juuust right. They have a nice blend of classic, funky, dressy, fun... and they all seem to fit!

Too bad I really can't afford to be a big fan of Express. :headache:

I like wearing young-looking, trendy clothes. I used to reject certain stores as being 'too young' for me but now I no longer care. I buy the clothes I (and my DH) like and what I feel comfortable wearing. The downside is that my teenage DD keeps raiding my closet so my clothes are no longer my own! :lmao: I hate frumpy, old-lady clothes though, and dread the day when I truly am too old to wear what I like.

Oh, I love Express, too! I'm surprised you say the clothes are expensive, though. In our area they are very reasonably priced.

They DO have their sales... which is when I buy. They just had a BOGO sale, and I bought 4 shirts... but it STILL cost me $90!!! I simply can't do $30 a shirt all that often and still eat! :rotfl:

That's me too, to an extent. There are just some things that just don't work for me. Some of that stuff looks like a street walker is born! I can imagine myself going to a school function in some of that!

ETA- That tighty tight stuff wasn't my style when I was in my teens either though.

I go with a combo that painstakingly tries to NOT look like I am trying to be a teenager... uggh, nothing less attractive than an insecure adult. I go with semi trendy shoes, and makeup - are eyes or lips in?. Then I go with more trendy tops focusing on color & cut with a v neck, but not too revealing & cropped, I love "What NOT to wear". My bottoms tend to be more conservative but dark because dark is trendy and I'm short

I was 17 once and was darn hot when I was, I'm good with where I am now and I like my clothes to say that about me. I think confidence in people over 30 is more smoldering than any clothes in any store, and that goes for both men and women:thumbsup2

I am with you!

I am also so tired of the the low cut - cleavage showing styles.

I like Talbots and shop their sales.

I am going to check out Express.

I :lovestruc Levi's jeans. Not the old style, mom fit levis, but the newer fits that sit just below the waist and are boot cut:

This style has the trouser style, flap back pocket.

I also like to get fitted, structured khakis that can be dressed up or down. I have several styles of jackets - brown fitted cord, fitted, button down jean, and a few colored zip style that are more casual. IMO, structured jackets that can be dressed up or down are flattering on every body style.

As for shirts, I get lots and lots of casual tees at Target. I layer almost everything since I'm tall and long bodied...nobody needs to see any back fat hanging out. ;) So I buy lots of long tanks in tons of colors, fabrics, and styles to go under shirts. Button down shirts and fitted polo shirts are my old standby. They can be dressed up or down depending on the pants and whether you layer a jacket over them. I get most at Kohls or Target. I finally broke down and started trying everything on before bringing it home, because everything (like you said) is made for 12 year old girls or 70 year old ladies. Once I find a style I like, I buy it in every color I like.

I'm tuning in to see what you all have to say, I'm having the same problem. I'm too old for juniors (nor do I have a juniors body!) but I'm not that old, either!

... and don't get me started on maternity!:lmao:

I really like INC. I tend to get really good sales at Macys.

I am so fed up with my local Target. They moved the Plus Size section to the maternity section. Now, us Plus Sized gals have all of three racks to choose from. And as of Sunday, one of these racks had short-shorts and halter tops.

Do they not look at the majority of their shoppers? I don't wear short-shorts and halters.

It's MUCH worse when you're on the heavy side. It's a huge battle not to slide into Grandma territory or settle for the chubby hooker look.

The absolute worst thing lately is all of the "bling" on everyday clothing. I'm sorry, but to me, sequins/beads on a regular blouse screams "bingo party!" The darned things are everywhere, though -- I've become expert at removing them.

Really? I LOVED my maternity clothes! I was even very excited to find short length pants at Motherhood!

That is so funny! But now that you mention it, you are so right! I think the "bling" has replaced gold lame of years ago. There was a time that gold lame was on everything from hair bows to shoes. I threatened to get a gold lame hair bow when we went to Vegas a long time ago. The shiny stuff always seems to have it's day. :upsidedow

DH told me yesterday that he wished I dressed sexier. But in the next breath he said that with a teenage son, I can't really dress too sexy.

I hate clothes shopping. I hate spending a lot of money on clothes. And I hate trying to find clothes that are fashionable and fit me well (I am a size 6/8 or medium, sometimes a large depending on the cut).

I went to Ross today and found a pair of shorts and 3 shirts. Along with a couple of items for the bathroom, my total was under $40. I can deal with that.

I am trying to find fashionable summer clothes. I normally go on a small shopping spree in Spring and Fall for my clothes. And I normally have an easy shopping trip at Ross. This time, I think I hit a bit late, as there was not a lot of "pretty" (to me) clothes. And there were a lot of colors that I don't look good in left in the cute clothes.

I feel lucky I found some stuff though. I just have to keep my eyes open for online deals.

I struggle with clothes shopping, as well. I do find clothes at The Limited and at The Gap, but they tend to be somewhat pricey. Also, I like the clothes at Ann Taylor Loft. Again, a bit pricey. I didn't even know bling is "in" because I avoid all stores unless absolutely necessary. I couldn't even tell you what the styles are for this coming season.

I buy mostly J Crew and Banana Republic. I have an office job, and need nice business casual clothing.

I usually shop at Loft, Gap, Limited, Banana Republic and Ann Taylor (usually only the outlets for BR and AT). I am 32 and most things are trendy and age appropriate. They can be kind of pricey, but they always have coupons and sales so I take advantage of those and very rarely pay full price for anything.

Oh me too!!! I LOVED maternity clothes!!!

I have no clue where to shop either.. I"m not into bling, ruffles, shirts so low cut it leaves NOTHING to imagine, I'm so boring. :rotfl:
