It has been so long since I have had to buy any really warm weather clothes (not much need for them in Aberdeen!) that I am going to need to do a fair bit of holiday clothes shopping this year.

I am starting to look for shorts - anybody got any good suggestions for fairly light shorts that can dry quickly, that include decent sized pockets, preferably one with a zip for the rides, suitable for a 44 year old man.

Also, any suggestions for sunglasses that can be worn in the pool/waterparks that include a headband? I'm sure I saw DisWolves wearing some in photos - where did you get yours? I have really sensitive eyes that just can't cope in bright sun, especially when there is concrete around.

Finally, would you recommend water shoes for the waterparks? I've never used them before, but I seem to remember the paths in the waterparks were murder last time, so tempted to buy some this time. Again, any suggestions for good ones, and can you wear them on the flumes?

My partner got some great shorts for our Orlando holiday last year at M&S. Blue Harbour they were and they cost around 15£. Various colours and very practical.

I cannot suggest sunglasses unfortunately. As for water shoes we wore Haviana flip flops. They were perfect as on the fast water rides we put them on our hands. Shoes are a must in the water parks. I couldn't have walked around without them. You can buy those like surfing shoes for the children in some shops around I.Drive.

I try to resist shopping at M&S if I can - it's halfway to admitting I'm getting old! :rotfl2:

As a 38 year old man I can recommend Timberland for shorts, I got a great pair with multiple pockets, a couple of zip ones and a free waterproof wallet inside one of them on a carabiner (sorry if mispelt) in one. They have outlets and sales quite frequently.

Shades it's always Oakley for me, have a look at the sales sites, ebay etc, plenty of bargains although the strap is normally an add on.

Shoes, without a doubt crocs. I persevered with trainers and in particular Timberland wet weather running shoes for some time and they were great but I am now a crocs convert and they are so common over there that even if you feel a bit daft over here, over there its almost the standard. They can frequently be had on Amazon for under £20.

Hope that helps. As for tshirts and shirts, wait until you're there and go shopping at premium outlets etc.

I feel really bad now then as i buy my hubby cargo shorts from marks amd we are 32 :-(

I was in Matalan yesterday and they had some cargo shorts for £15 for men, I think eh bad a zip up pocket too, many colours available.

I also buy from M&S and I'm 32! Their stuff is good quality and it fits well :)

I'm 24 and I've bought stuff from there too, mostly shoes and socks though

DH gets his shorts etc from asda and tesco. They usually have a reasonable range of cargo shorts. Plus if they get spilt on or ripped etc they didn't cost a fortune. Same with t shirts which he buys from primark. If he needs space in his suitcase at the end of the holiday he throws them out.

We get a lot of my DH,s shorts from M&S too. They have some nice ones at the moment that could be worn in the pool / quick dry, but would also look good ( not obviously swim shorts) for wearing in parks / restaurants etc. Good luck!

My dh usually buys his shorts in go outdoors or tiso or any other outdoor type shorts. Most of them have quick drying style ones and they usually have several pockets

this is the style he wear

you can get all different makes at various prices

Hadn't thought of the outdoor shops - we have loads in Aberdeen so will try them out.

Thanks for the suggestions guys and gals.

As for the M&S thing, I think this shows the difference between men and women - women all go there because of the lingerie so feel an affinity for the shop. Us men have no such affinity - quite the opposite, we have horrible memories of standing for hours outside the changing rooms there waiting for our other halves! And why do all clothes shops stick the lingerie next to the changing rooms - us men just don't know where to look whilst we are stood there waiting! :rotfl2:

I seem to have created a big debate on M&S - who knew?

Just to let you all know my partner was 22 last year when he brought these shorts and I have to let you know he did look trendy as he would team them up with some Fred Perry plimsoles & either a fashionable top or Fred Perry polo (weather dependant).

The sunglasses that I use during the day which I dont mind the risk of damaging them - are just a cheap pair from Next. The headband is a push-on elasticated fabric type that fit on the arms of any glasses. They are great for use in the water, I got mine a few years ago from Typhoon Lagoon, but most of the parks sell them for a few dollars.
For days with no activity or evening use, I wear Oakleys. I cannot praise these enough. They are both comfortable and also give great sun protection. :thumbsup2

With regards to foot ware - I suffer from flat feet and so have to be careful what I wear. As someone early posted - Crocs are extremely comfortable, and I still have a Black/Red Mickey Mouse pair that are about 4 or 5 years old :rotfl2:
however for the past couple of years I have been using flip flops made by a company called SANUK. The bed of the shoe is a firm memory foam - very hard wearing, completely safe and grippy on wet surfaces. I can only describe it as walking on air :littleangel::littleangel::littleangel:
They are available from quite a few shoe outlets in the outlet malls. I got my first pair from a shop near to Bubba Gump in Universal City Walk.

I also suffer from flat feet and really struggle to find comfortable and suitable footwear so thanks for this info! x
