Closing Disney Quest??

DisneyQuest is the one truly disappointing attraction at DisneyWorld. The games are lame and it was a complete waste of time. And this coming from a twentysomting gamer. The admission price was included in our package along with water parks etc., but I couldn't see spending money exclusively on DisneyQuest

Agreed, from another gamer (33 yo Mom gamer! Troll hunters and moo-druids FTW!). It would be a fun place for people who go to arcades rarely or for whom the home console is high-end gaming entertainment, but for gaming geeks - the people who would spend the most time there and feel like they got the best value and most likely return repeatedly - there's very little there worth returning to. Even if the admission ticket was free I wouldn't take the time out from the parks for it.

And I too read 2008 a ways back, but have heard nothing since. I'll ask when I go to DTD in November.

Last time I visited DQ was in 2000, and i've been dying to visit again ever since, I just never get around to it. Next trip, I definitely will. It was a blast then and i'm excited to see it again! I really hope it doesn't close, it's a lot of fun imo. :thumbsup2

I read an article by someone back months ago about this. I hope its not true. I think that Disney really should promote DQ a bit more. We totally forgot about it for most of our trip in Feb. We went on the 2nd last day there and had a blast. Excellent value for money and we would definately go twice the next time we visit. I think it is one of Disneys best kept secrets as most ppl either don't know REALLY what it is.

It's a False Rumor.

You say that with such authority. On what authority do you base this information?

I would not at all be surprised if it were true. Anyone who is a fan of DQ has followed the news over the years, including the failed venture in Chicago, which was supposed to make DQ a franchise, similar to Gamworks. They closed it in short order.

Why?

Unfortunately, they found that the signature gaming experience they offered which made it unique from the Gameworks and other arcade experiences out there--the virtual reality games such as Pirates--were very very expensive to create and maintain. Not to mention the high cost and lengthy process involved in the development and testing phase. So much so that they would be unable to keep such an enterprise current and "Disney" in its maintenance/appearance over heavy use. In short, the games would lose their relevance, and look pretty beat up and tired, and the money wouldn't be there to do anything about it. Very un-Disney.

DQ loses money, bottom line, and they can't spend the money to update it to keep it fresh and keep repeat business through the turnstiles, let alone entice the general populace to hop on in and thus keep it a viable financial venture.

I see DQ going the way of the Dodo. And with the recent huge overhauls taking place in Pleasure Island, which has already been confirmed as one of many phases of big changes yet to come for Downtown Disney, seeing DQ on the chopping block would not surprise me in the least. It would bum me out. That is why I am making a point to hit it in 2007--I barely got to scratch the surface on my last trip there, and I am eager to spend a whole afternoon/evening there really delving into the fun, before it is gone...
