(CLOSED) The Smoking DSA's @ Resorts Info Thread

All Disney resorts have designated smoking areas (similar to the parks). No one is allowed to even step outside their room to have a smoke. Doesn't mean it won't happen... but, if it does and you have a problem with it, you can go to the lobby and mention it to them.
The smoking sections aren't even usually near the buildings.

If you really want to go all out and avoid the fumes, the resort map they'll give you at check in will have the DSAs on them.
As a smoker, I promise you, I always stay in my designated area :)

no, no! by the "nature" of deluxe resorts, I meant.. the layout! sorry, should have been clearer. meaning, tall buildings, with many floors, interior corridors, elevators. (although I do believe I specified that in the "parenthetical aside" right after).
hubby and I are both smokers. we have stayed at all 3 levels. our preference is the moderate resorts. (maybe because we are smokers, and it IS easier and quicker to get to the DSA), but I really think if (when) we quit, we STILL like the mods. we like to open our door and be outside. we find the long indoor hallways a mite depressing. hubby is an early riser, and he likes to walk outside, and a few steps one way or the other, there is a totally dif.l view!
we stayed once at AKL and once at WL, but both times, we had smoking rooms. Dolphin twice.. smoking rooms.
we have only stayed in a deluxe one time since the new rule. Boardwalk villas. and, as I stated, we were on the first floor. just a short walk in either direction to a DSA right outside the door. (but I really wanted a balcony, not a patio. but the better the balcony view, the farther away from a DSA!)
we would love to try AKL again, but I'm not sure how that would work for us. It was a very long walk from our room to the elevator, than a wait for the elevator, then a long walk through the lobby to get outside. ( a lot of hassle for a cig!)
actually, we were at POP last year, on the 4th floor, and it was a hassle too. because 4 flights of stairs is a bit much, or again, a wait for an elevator.
2nd story at a value or moderate is great, cause(for us) one flight of stairs is no big deal)
Just wanted to let smidgy know I had NO bad feelings about YOU! And I think you're clarification was ideal, and right-on! :thumbsup2 I sooo agree with that explanation of layout! ;)

New Smoke-Free Policy

All Walt Disney World® Resorts, including Disney Vacation Club Resorts, will become smoke-free on June 1, 2007. During the past five years Guest demand for smoking rooms has been declining steadily. Currently, less than 3.5 percent of Walt Disney World's 24,000 resort rooms are smoking optional.

The new policy applies to all guest rooms, patios, and balconies, and designates outdoor smoking areas at all resorts affected by the change. Smoking is currently prohibited in all lobbies, restaurants, and convention spaces. This policy will allow us to better accommodate the large numbers of Members who request non-smoking accommodations and complements our efforts to provide our Guests with the healthy living options they are requesting.

If you agree OR disagree with the policy, I'd like to point out your interests are best served by writing the Walt Disney Company directly :

AND .. the links to the maps of each resort showing the Designated Smoking Areas (DSAs) at that resort.

Questions about the Smoking Area's placement and location can be posed in this thread here.

Please read the first post of that thread before posting.

The Link to the Maps is now the second post at the beginning of this thread.. It was in another linked thread at the top of the board (the one that says "resort maps" -- but now it's in both places.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. I was going nuts trying to find it last night.

Hello! We have standard room at Beach Club booked - any suggestions on a room/area request to have easy access to a DSA? We'll be requesting ground floor, a must for my son. But really want easy access to be able to head out for a smoke late at night but be near room. thanks!

i was just wondering, this question was answered about a year ago, but with disney everything changes hourly....can you buy cigs in the world? if i recall they are avaiable at gift shops upon request?

is this still true?
thanks for any help

Only at the RESORT gift shops, not at the parks.

You can also walk over to the Hess gas station across from DTD and get them at real world prices.

I bring my own so I don't buy at the resort shop but the discussions in the DSAs indicated that last Easter they were selling at $10 per pack. I don't live in the US but that sounded pretty steep to me. I would suggest bringing your own if you can. At least that way you know you have your own brand

I am curious...do they sell lighters anywhere in disney? Either the parks or in the resorts? I am only bringing a carry on (and therefore cannot bring a lighter correct?) I thought it would be nice to get a disney lighter, but I dunno where I would be able to get one! Thanks :)
