(CLOSED) The Smoking DSA's @ Resorts Info Thread

Just a quick note from our trip:

We returned last night from a week at CSR. DSAs were few and far between at the resort but plentiful, although very sunny, at each park. DH frequently smoked in the parking lot of the resort (always extinguishing his cig and depositing it in a trash can) on the way to the bus stop without issue. When we asked cast members in the parks for the location of the nearest DSA, we were told on more than one occasion that as long as we don't leave butts on the ground it is not a big deal where we smoke outside. DH received no hassle whatsoever from anyone about smoking.

I found the DSA's in the Park hard to find and freqently found them by seeing others using them!! My favorite was at MK by the Speedway I think I went to MK several times just becdause I knew where that DSA was !!:rotfl2:

How are the smoking areas around the Yacht Club? Any pics of the general location would be great. Thanks.

I'll be at the Beach Club in late October and will try to get some photos of the DSA's at the Yacht and Beach to post here. I hope that's not too late for you!:goodvibes

krbq, thank you so much! We won't be there until Jan. so that would be perfect :)

Just got home on 10/5 from our 10-day stay at Pop. Thought I would mention that last September there was one table near the Petals Pool Bar that was a smoking section. This year ALL of the tables around the bar had ashtrays beside them and I was told by two different CM's, as well as the bartender, that smoking was allowed at all of them. The bar itself was non-smoking if you were sitting at one of the barstools.

The park where I noticed the most missing DSA's was AK. The DSA across from Y&Y is now gone as well as the covered tables DSA on the side walkway on the bridge from Africa to Asia (the bridge with the great view of the tree of life). However, there were still people smoking in that one each time I went by.

In Epcot, the DSA outside of the entrance to LeCellier was gone, but a CM standing nearby told me that it was only temporary until the end of the Food and Wine Festival, and would be returning.

I'm sure someone has already mentioned that the DSA on the bridge to Fantasyland from Liberty Square is now gone, as we noticed that one missing in March of 2008. However, there is now a DSA on the other side of the castle, on the walkway leading down to Cosmic Ray's. That one has a much better view than the previous one anyway as well as more seating. I am especially happy to report that the DSA across from Aloha Isle is still there, as is the one behind Liberty Tree Tavern!

If anyone is interested, we just got back from a long weekend at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort.

There are 4 (yes, only 4) DSA's at the resort.
-1 by Live Oak Lodge (check in bldg)
-1 between bldgs 18, 20,22.
-1 in the pool area between bldgs 25 & 26
-1 at far end of resort by bldgs 30 & 31

Thankfully we were in Bldg 26, so the DSA was right behind our bldg. Only problem with this, is the pool closed at 10pm and the DSA is in the pool area and they lock the gate. We stood on the other side of the gate & also went out to the parking lot by our car after 10pm. Saw several CM's (including mgt) and no one said a word.

We didn't go over to the Beach House, so I don't know if/how many were over there.

--fwiw, everywhere else on the Island had ashtrays every 10feet :thumbsup2

The smoking sections at the YC we fantastic. They are right outside the window of the YSH. There are rocking chairs and everything. Its toward the kids section of SAB.

There is another one outside of the SAB right at the ping pong table (behind Hurricane Hannahs) That one I felt kinda wierd smoking at because the ping pong is right there. So I only smoked there if my kids were using the tables.

We had a room right by the quiet pool and there is DSA there as well. So all in all, I was quite pleased with the placement of the DSAs.

Thanks Cindy's Mom! I have been looking at pics of the YC to see if I could see the smoking places that have been mentioned  . I don't smoke that much. I do like to have one with my morning coffee and before I go to bed. The thought of wanting one and then having to search for DSAs sort fills me with anxiety

Thank you. I will be stopping at Guest Services and expressing my opinion on this change. :)
Yes, I am quoting myself.

I did stop at Guest Relations, and got the standard response: "Here's the card with the Guest Communications addresses; this is the best way to let Disney know your thoughts".

The only time I was actually given a paper to fill out was when I stopped to compliment a Cast Member. The GR CM said she had to go blow the dust off that stack! :teeth:

That smoking area is actually behind the bar - down that walkway and around the corner - but, yeah, we smoke where we're used to smoking :)

Do you mean behind Yak & Yeti? I didn't know there was a smoking section there. The (non) DSA where I saw smokers smoking was the one on the side path off the walkway from Africa to Asia.

In Epcot, two different times, someone approached me while I in a DSA to ask for a light. They lit their cigarette, returned my lighter to me and then just walked away smoking. I think the disappearing DSA's are resulting in more people smoking outside of DSA's because so many people just don't know where they can smoke anymore. It also appears to be more generally ignored by CM's now than before.

We just got back from ASMo. They have the best DSA. It was once an outside eating area. It is located right outside the food court. The area has tables and chairs and is under cover. We stayed in Toy Story and this is the only DSA I used at the resort. Very convenient especially in the morning while drinking my coffee.

I agree the DSAsat the parks are not well signed I think they should be included on the signs that point to restrooms etc !!I had to ask sooo many times ! Yes I had my map but still couldn't find them !! Most I found was by seeing others in them ! My fav. was the one by the Indy Speedway at MK!!

Do you mean behind Yak & Yeti?
Nope. Behind the Dawa bar in Africa. I didn't spend enough time at AK this trip to determine where the other DSAs are located.

Oh, there's one behind the store in the far corner of Dinoland. You need to either go through the store, or through a narrow entrance between the building and a piece of fence.

At the side of the path/bridge between Expedition Everest and Dinoland.

I don't have a map, and that's all I remember - there must be more, though.

We just got back (10/5/08) and our experience was it did not matter WHERE the smoking areas were in DD. There were people walking all over while smoking and no one seemd to stop them.

It's my understanding that smoking is allowed anywhere outside at DD. At least that's what I've been told by CM's there.

Hi Gang,

Thank you for taking this subject seriously, my husband and I are not smokers but our friend that is coming with us this time is. We are trying to prepare him for the lack of smoking as well and figuring out alternatives.

Thanks again!
