(CLOSED) The Smoking DSA's @ Resorts Info Thread

Thanks for the replies on my Pop question, but it turns out we've moved from ASMovies to ASSports (our fabulous TA got us $500 off our package for doing so though!).

So, after looking at the maps, I think I've figured out which preferred rooms are closest to a DSA. The only two preferred rooms buildings are the Surfs Up buildings and the one that looks the closest to a DSA seems to be Surfs Up #1.

I thinks rooms #1104 to #1107 might have direct eyelines to the DSA (important for those of us with deep-sleeping husbands and excited children! lol). What do you think of those rooms? Closest?

Thanks!

Sorry to repost, but I was just wondering if anyone had any input on this please? Thank you so much :flower3:

I am on page 47 and still reading!

I haven't booked yet. Can anyone recommend a hotel for smokers? On site is out of the question now, right?

What about requesting an on-site room near a DSA, do the resorts honor these requests?

Thank you so much. Back to reading.

familygal:
ok, onsite is out of the question, ONLY if you NEED to smoke in your room or right outside.
hubby, Nebo, at home, smokes EVERY WAKING MOMENT, really. but HE LOVES to stay onsite. when they instituted the new "no smoking rooms" I wondered how he would deal with it. (I smoke, also, but it's not as important to me).
well we have stayed onsite 4 times since then. yeah, it's a bit of a hassle to walk to a DSA, but in our opinion, not as much of a hassle as staying offsite. (you don't get the transportation, the extra magic hours, etc.) we always request close to a DSA, and they try their best to honor it. now, we have not stayed at a deluxe resort since then. at the mods and values, it's pretty easy to walk out of your room and to a DSA (as I imagine at a deluxe, where you have to walk down a LONG hallway, go down the elevator, then through another hallway to get outside)
also, I have heard conflicting stories about the Dolphin. the Swan is def. nonsmoking, but I think they MIGHT still have smoking rooms at the Dolphin, not sure. still onsite, but not Disney owned. we LOVED it. you still get the transportation and extra magic hours benefits, but not chargng privieldges or Magical Express form the airport. (also, you can't get the dining plan).
but!! you can watch illuminations from the bridge between United Kingdom and France, and walk down the International Gateway and be back at your resort in 10-15 minutes!!!:woohoo: (just in time for Karaokee at the Swan!)
have fun, whatever you choose to do! (I feel your angst) but try not to let it ruin your fun!

Among the deluxes, we found the Wilderness Lodge to be just fine in regards to the DSA. With the shape of the resort, if you get either courtyard view for first floor, or near the end of either wing for woods view or courtyard view on any other floor, then your walk to the DSA isn't bad at all. We were all the way at the end of the south wing last time, and it was just a zip down the stairs and out the door, then a few paces away and there we were.

(There's also a DSA located on the way to the bus stop.)

I had no problem at Pop! I'd suggest 1st floor as it's quicker to get to the DSA I had one just across from my room and it was no problem!

Soooo much less stress that way. Ft. Wilderness cabins it is. Nice change from New York City, LOL!

Could somebody please confirm if the Dolphin has smoking rooms or not.

We stayed there last January and we were told that there was no smoking rooms in the Dolphin any more and that you were not allowed smoke on balconies.

The conference that we go to every year in the Dolphin just opened up for booking and they have a smoking option for the Dolphin. Is this incorrect or was i told a load of you know what when i was checking in last year.

I agree, smidgy - I hope that one is NOT gone! Has anyone been there lately and stopped by to see if the ashtrays are still there (a sure sign of a DSA)? If not, could somebody PLEASE check? Not that my entire trip would be ruined... but I love that spot!

Unfortunately, I was there over Labor Day weekend and it is gone :-(

It was moved to by the bathrooms by Guest Services :-(

Which makes NO sense as all have to use the restroom.

Great! I don't want to have to be rushed to the hospital, just because I walked by a smoker. I may be alone with my niece most of the trip.

I only noticed one area in DCA, if there were more at the DLR I didn't see them.

It sure was scarry looking at the maps. They had smoking areas all over the place.

Just got back from DL and DCA. There are only three smoking areas at DL. One near the dock to Tom Sawyers/Pirates Lair Island, one around the side of the castle underneath the monorail line, and one near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

There are only four at DCA. One on an outcropping overlooking Paradise Pier, one in the Grizzly River area underneath the lift platform, one near Monster's Inc, and one across from Soarin in Condor Flats.

Although not indicated as an area, I saw lots of folks smoking off to the sides in the Esplanade in between the parks and in the shuttle pickup area heading towards Harbor, and of course Downtown Disney you are allowed to smoke anywhere outside.

We may be moving from ASMovies to Pop. Does anyone know which preferred ground-floor rooms at Pop are the closest to a DSA? As we don't know if we'll have to move to Pop or stay at ASMovies, I have no idea what building(s) the preferred rooms are in, sorry.

Any help would be appreciated - there are 3 smokers in our Grand Gathering party!

We stayed at POP Sept 07 in a preferred room. Building 1 room 1111, that was easy to remember!. There was a DSA in the courtyard area just a few feet away from our room. It was very convenient.

Thank you. I will be stopping at Guest Services and expressing my opinion on this change. :)

I was at the Contemporary Resort, 8/27 to 8/31 and we stayed in the wing, ground floor. There were 2 DSA's very close to the room, at exits. Yet, I do have to say, something Magical happened, because I am a 2 pack a day smoker and I ended up only smoking about 2 packs for the entire trip, without any stress at all!
It was very aggravating though, that the people on the 3rd floor DID smoke from their room with the slider open and then threw out their, sometimes lit, butts to the ground, in front of our room. There are no upper balconies in reality, there are just balcony rails at the upper slider doors, with no space to step onto a balcony.
After seeing the ducks run after the discarded butts, I did mention it to one of the groundskeepers what was happening. I didn't snitch on which room it was coming from, but I also wanted to point out that it wasn't from my room! They said that they would report it to the Front Desk, but it did still continue.
I did worry and stress before I went to Disney, but found the smoking areas sufficient at the Contemporary.

It doesn't seem that their are too many DSA at POR Riverside. Are some building's more convenient than others to the DSA. I would also like a water view and close to the food court.

when we stayed at POR, alligator bayou section, there were DSAs along the walkway, and one at each quiet pool. well the DSA at the quiet pool was a little bench which sat only 2. (and there was a couple who continuously used that bench to drop their bags, etc, while they swam.) well, there were a lot more smokers than could fit on that little bench, or even in that little area, so the 2 tables on the far end of the pool "unofficially" became the DSA. no one complained, everyone was considerate, the families with kids stayed towards one end and the smokers sat at the other end (the tables were set back) we were in bldg 16, I think.
at the main pool there are tables up by the Muddy rivers pool bar for smoking, and there were tables down nearer the pool in an alcove , closest to the bar, where people were smoking. there were also 2 tables outside the food court for smoking, and a bench set a bit aside from the back entrance to the lobby.(not all around the pool, where the kids were)

Oak Manor has plenty of DSA, close to the food court, & you can request a water view.
