Luke and Tessa finally meet: (he doesn't look happy or anything does he?) :lmao:

The Lily's look so cute together! Grace got her hair cut for the first time there in September...did you get the pink Mickey ears that said first haircut? I wanted to get Claire's hair cut but she wouldn't let me. So I guess she'll get it cut when we go next year. With all of our curls there hair takes forever to grow (since it grows sideways!) so Grace was over FIVE when she had her first haircut and Claire will be the same.

Tessa and Luke so cute together!

Hi!

I have been checking in on this thread for a while now, trying to come up with some ideas for my next trip.

I have a few questions-when you make the T-Shirts with the Mickey Head out of fabric, Do you wash both the fabric and the T-Shirt first? Neither or just one?

I just finished making a dress for my niece. How do I go about posting a picture?

Don't know if anyone has answered your question yet but wash both the fabric and the shirt. The directions for posting pictures is on the first page of the thread.

I've been looking through the bookmarked bows. So many cute ones but all I've found so far look like little girl bows.

penny

I know I've seen something like that somewhere! I wish I could help you out more, but I don't remember what bookmark it would be. Do you have a picture of what you are talking about? I have an idea, but I may be way off!

I need a little advice.

I want to make a sundress just like one my DD already has.

I found a pattern : NewLook 6688, that looks just like it, but

6688.jpg

When I go online & read reviews there are a few things they changed & I want to know if I make these cahnges do you think I will get the results I'm after.

1) eliminate side lap zipper > put in center back snaps

2) eliminate skirt lining & tulle ruffle > put boning in hem

(it gets very hot here -99+, a lined skirt w/itchy tulle won't get much wear, but I want the skirt to look full)

I want to make 2 of theses. One fabric is light cotton, but one if med/heavy.

Thank you!
Melani

This is the pattern I used for my first dresses. I eliminated the zipper and didn't add snaps at all. It just became a pullover dress. Alot easier...alot like the simply sweet. Did not do lining or ruffle. The skirt does not look very full and if I remember right, the pattern is cut in a cone shape so it is hard to adjust to make it wider.

I was just skimming the past day or two, so I thought I'd go back to comment no some things! I'm sorry if I missed you, I thought all the things posted were so cute!

The Lilies look so adorable!!! I love it!!

And Luke and Tessa, what can I say! Tessa was so excited to meet Luke!

I love all the cute pictures and the trip reports from your dis meet! The kids are so dang cute.

I did keep going today because I knew this was going to be a shirt that would take several tries. This is the very first one so I know it is bad. DH did print in reverse for me and I also need to fix a few things but Hunter is so sweet he just loves it.

th_darthshirt.jpg

April, this looks great!
Hunter lost his first tooth last evening. He wanted me to tye a string and then attach it to the cat:scared1: I had the cat held down and it got away so I just ended up using my fingers.

The tooth fairy came and left him 1 of every coin and $1. The tooth right next to it is going to be out before we leave.

I only wish I had some Disney dollars to give him.
th_Hunterstooth.jpg

That is so funny! I love it! It seems like all the kids are losing teeth lately!
This is the dress I designed and could not get the bodice to fit correctly. After many frustrated days, I did get it the way I like it. I love batik but it does wrinkle badly. I am sure happy they will have irons. I have also washed it a few times so it doesn't bleed when wearing it.

Back with shirring

April, I love all these outfits!! I really lke to wear skirts, but I never really thought about making myself some for Disney! I think I might need to do that this year!

This is for Epcot as we have ADR's at Teppan Edo's for dinner. Please, any suggestions on what to do with the shirt? I am sure to put another shirt under it as the V is deep.

th_EpcotDragons2outfits.jpg

I did finish Hunter's shirt for Nemo but asked Mom to pick me up a matching T-shirt. The one I had is the one in with the batik and it looked faded. Tomorrow I will have the T and the applique is ready to go on.

I do have another pirate outfit but I still have the applique skull and crossbones to do. Thanks Crystal for the great graphic!

I thought to make Darth and Star wars helmets on shirts but now Hunter is changing his mind so much that I don't know what to make for DHS. Once again, suggestions?

Fabulous!
Tired of my posts yet? I am starting to get tired.
Here is the AK outfits that went bad...very bad. I ran out of fabric, could not buy anymore, had to split the skirt into a panel skirt instead of regular, then the black fabric doesn't match and finally, Hunter's mickey head looks like it got ran over in a stampeed!

I am thinking of taking out the head and putting a regular white mickey head with a hat, would that be a good fix?

Ok, no more outfits, well I have 1 more pirate set to finish but I won't post again till tomorrow.

Honestly April, I LOVE these outfits!! When I first looked at your pictures I thought it was really clever the way you did the panel skirt! (I was skimming not really reading)I think it looks great like that! And I love the Mickey on the back of Hunter's shirt!!!

Well we are less than 24 hours from being at WDW. I am getting ready to pack but know better than to pack without showing pictures! I attempted my first appliques(just the simple mickey heads) but I want to thank Heather for her great tutorial!!!! It is amazing at how much better my appliques got by the time I was done! Practice does make perfect!:thumbsup2 Ok here we go her are the boys shirts and a few for me and my DH. I am sure he will love to find out that these have been packed for him!:rotfl2:

Sorry the pics are huge I don't have time to go thru and resize all of them! Up next my DD's outfits

These are great shirts! Are you in Disney yet???

Here are my DD's outfits. Her fav is the AK outfit and the Monsters Inc. I was pretty proud of myself for getting all of these outfits and shirts done in 2 weeks time!

Up first a Tink outfit(my first Simply Sweet and I love this pattern now!) probably for the same day the boys wear Nemo, Epcot(totally CASED Snubie's, Thanks!) and a MK shirt.

th_IMG_3224.jpg

I love this mickey shirt made from a valance that I got from goodwill for 50 cents! That shirt is for MK and then her AK dress and a Minnie shirt.

And up last her DHS shirts. Not thrilled with her toy story outfit but oh well it is done!

th_IMG_3226.jpg

Oh, wow!!! I love the made a skirt with a valance too, it is such a clever idea! I love it!

Hi Friends,

I need to take the day off from sewing today. I will work on the autism shirts later. I will once again have to go back to the city 3.5 hours round trip to get the shirts. The gas alone will cost more than the T-shirts. I am going to put it on the radio and see if someone can get them for me. If not I am going next Sat with Mom.

Thanks for all the nice comments on my sewing. A lot of the clothes I didn't use a pattern on but just came up with ideas. Ok, Linnette is rubbing off on me and I lucky for that. I still don't like the AK clothes but it is what I have made.

I need to make 1 more AK outfit and I have some small spotted stuff in dark. Of course Hunter gets a shirt but I don't know what to do. Maybe capries.

Hunter wants me to make him a Red Clone helmet too! I still have more Star wars to make for DHS. We leave in exactly 2 weeks from today at this time.

Today was a huge snow storm. I can't wait to be in Florida.

I'm out. I enjoy sewing, but you can't make a comment on this board without people attacking what you said. I keep my DD clean. I don't battle her on what she wears. And I am not shallow, but there are plenty of people on here that are.

I understand.

I didn't read nor participate in the great iron debate. But I too have been recently hurt by members on this board. I have been an active member of this thread since the get go. I have cried with members, prayed with and for members, celebrated and supported. I am not shallow either but I do have feelings.

To all the wonderful people I have met on this thread(and yes you know who you are;) )-Thank you!
Oh this is breaking my heart! You both are such active supporters of this group I would miss you guys terribly if you didn't post!!!!!!!

I honestly don't think anyone was meaning to hurt anyones feelings at all! I think sometimes it is so hard to convey what is meant through the net.

If i hurt anyones feelings I am truly so sorry it was NEVER my intention at all!!!!!!!!!!

Very well put! I was thinking the same thing. I have two children (DS14 & DD5). My son does dress himself very nice, but my daughter and my son at her age as well are allowed to dress themselves. At that young age they do not always pick what I would consider matching or "smart". But, really i believe as parents we need to pick our battles! What my kids wear is not a battle I choose to win! I win the battles that matter...my kids are wellbehaved, kind, loving, intelligent & just great individuals with a great amount of self confidence. I believe that self confidence partly comes from having parents that allow them to make choices & not criticize those choices. Save the battle for times when they really need your guidance.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not offended...I just feel the conversation in general, the way it was going, was rather shallow.

Just my opinion...but thought I'd share! :)

I totally agree with you!

i just want to say that i am sorry that people are feeling bad, i think everyone on here has so much to add, and are so very helpful. i would feel very sad if any one left, i think sometimes it is hard to get the jist of what people are saying when it is typed and not spoken , i know that just in typing this post i must have reworded it 10 times and its still not exactly what i want to say... but to everyone on here....thanks for being encouraging, inspiring and helpful.... i hope you all stick around for the long haul because i am just getting started and need lots more help:grouphug:

Can someone here please direct me to some simple instructions for big girl (read older teen) hair bows. DD's high school softball team is in need of some matching ones. They all wear ponytails and wear the type bow that has longer streamers. I hope you know what kind I mean.

I love seeing all the great things y'all make. My sweet daughter-in-law is expecting a baby girl the end of March. I can't wait until she is old enough for me to dust off my sewing machine.

Thanks,

Penny

I'm sure I mananged to miss the drama. I have a hard time keeping up with the thread anyway! I live by the motto that no one can hurt my feelings. Only I can allow my feelings to be hurt. This is def not always easy, but has helped in many situations. I would hate for anyone to leave. Everyone is valuable!!

Thank you! Now I just have to learn to make them.

It will be good practice for making my grand-baby bows, after she is born and grows some hair. lol. Meanwhile DD still wears them occasionally, for softball and sometimes to football games. I wish she was still small, she had bows to match every outfit. I spent a not so small fortune on bows.

Thank you, so you don't think I'll need the boning for the heavier fabric?

I wouldn't think so. It poufs out pretty well with 2 layers of really lightweight cotton, so I would think that a heavier fabric would stand out pretty well on it's own.

I want to thank everyone on here for their prayers while dh was looking for a job. He found out today that he got a job with Social Security Disability Termination. I'm so relieved. The last few months have been so stressful for me dealing with everything.

Oh my goodness, I hope it wasn't me that offended anyone. That certainly wasn't my intention. I am so sorry that your feelings have been hurt. I thought it was an interesting discussion. I guess I didn't look at it like a debate. When Tinka_Belle posed the question I thought it was cute that she couldn't believe that Northerners wouldn't iron daily. I giggled as I read it because I was thinking of my Southern friend who irons everything. And I guess as the conversation progressed into what our kids wear I thought we were all on the same page. Most of my friends do not understand the effort and time and love I put into sewing for my kids. This is the one place we all appreciate that and enjoy seeing our own as well as everyone else's kids dressed in their lovely customs created by us. Please don't leave the group. You guys would surely be missed :flower3:

I love Tomorrows Treasures!! :) I think they have had the same four dresses in their shop for two years though. :) One of the ladies that works their teaches smocking classes. I love their heirloom room.

The one boutique I mentioned in Annapolis is The Giant Peach in West Annapolis. Then there is a shop on Maryland Ave called Matilda. Those are the only two places I know of that sell any smocked clothing. The Last Call at Arundel Mills from time to time has smocked Baby Lulu but it is hit or miss.

I am from Annapolis too. I actually grew up in East Port. My DH and I moved out of Annapolis about 7 years ago but we are only 20 minutes away.

*** I think Jessica was right by saying the conversation was started by ironing. My girls dress a little fancier and that works for them. I do expect my girls to say mostly clean at school. I can say that because I was a teacher and I did my best to send my students home as clean as possible. We wore smocks a lot. ;)

I am not going to lie it really did bother me when I saw the little girl at the party. It was hard to see her mother with a $400 Coach bag and the little girl wore filthy sneakers. It just did not seem right to me.

I do not judge others on their appearances and do not teach my children to do so. People judge me all the time. I gained weight this past year and I am judged on a daily basis. One mother at the bday party asked me why don't I have gastric bypass surgery. WTH!!! I did not even really know her.

I am raising my children to be confident, caring and compassionate children. Being the mother of girls their self esteem is on my mind quite a bit. My goal is to have well adjusted well rounded children. So what if they want to wear a pettiskirt to the park. In a few years I will not be able to get a pettiskirt if I tried. I am just going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Hey neighbor! DH and I both grew up around here. I went to Broadneck and he went to Annapolis. Maybe we know each other! I'm not a fan of the Giant Peach. That place is too jammed pack with stuff and, in my opinion, the staff is kinda snooty.

DD2 regularly wears princess costumes as her clothes. Tierra and all! As I said, I'm just happy she has clothes on. Like you said, it doesn't last long and its such a sweet time in her life. And of course, being a Disney fan, I love that she loves all things princess. As far as pettis go, I thought a petti and a top was an outfit :rolleyes1

   A new job calls for lots of celebrating!:cool1: :dance3: :yay: :woohoo: :cheer2:

I hope that the stress gets better with hin finding this out!

LOL! I actually thought of you when I saw when picture day was! I don't do St.Patty's day, but Brian does. Lydia is SOOO excited, because Steph sent her a St.Patty outfit! When she saw it she said, "There is NO way I'm getting pinched this year!" Which is REALLY funny because this is her first year of school, so I don't know how she found out about the pinching thing! She looks fabulous in green, so her pictures will look great! :thumbsup2

Oh wow, I didn't realize you didn't do St. Patrick's Day. I sent it on because I thought the green would look nice with her red hair. I'm glad she won't be pinched! :)

I have been so sick, I think Tom brought the flu home on the plane from when he was out of town. This is the first time in two days I have been upright for more than a few minutes.
