(CLOSED) Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE and VILLAS Information Thread

A split stay would have been great, but we are only there for 4 nights.. seems like sort of a hassle to just do two at each! So it's going to have to be either the WL or BWI! We're considering the GF too, but the price leap is pretty significant.

You've got BWI in your signature already for 12-11. What is leading you to think about changing from BWI? Do you already have the BWI reservation? Is mobility an issue for mom? Would it be easier for her to be at an Epcot resort or does that not matter at all?

I received a pin code in the mail, but the only rooms originally available with the pin at the WL were bunk bed rooms. Given that it is just my mom and me going for our first ever holiday trip to WDW (it has always been our dream to see all of the decorations!), it seemed silly to have a bunk bed in the room unnecessarily. Plus, it was more $ than a regular room, so a standard room at the BWI was the same price with the pin. The BWI was our third-favorite for Christmas decor after the GF/WL, so we opted for that. Two days ago, though, I finally spotted a regular courtyard view room at the WL. I quickly switched the reservation since I had a feeling it would go away if I did not book it then, so now we are booked at the WL in a courtyard view room (no woods view available). It is $120 less than we would spend for a BWI standard view room.

The situation now is that we are trying to assess if the WL is worth just $120 less than the BWI. My mom and I much prefer the room decor of the BWI and love the Epcot area, but the WL Christmas pictures I've seen are really impressive! I do not want to switch back to the BWI from the WL until we are SURE we want to be there instead since I am afraid we will not be able to get back into the WL after I switch!

So that's the situation. Currently booked in a WL CY room and considering switching back to BWI SV. Sorry this response is a book!

Also-- I am 22 and my mom is in her 50s, so mobility is not an issue. We are both quite active and enjoy walking! It is just tough to forget how convenient the BWI location is.

Luckily we have a crib that the bed part lowers. We lowered it yesterday so I half expected to walk into the room and see that she had pulled herself up. But not yet! LOL

About the resort changer... between you and I, in all honesty, I usually only change in my mind, but once a reservation is made then only if a great code comes out and I can upgrade the resort or view. Don't tell the other official RC'ers though.

You could at this point be like a politician and deny you ever said it.

Glad you found it. I've never been in February, but I do know that during any holiday, like President's Day weekend, the parks are much more crowded. It looks like you'll be there a week before, but it is during Valentine's Day weekend.

We've been a few times in Feb and the weather has usually been cold and rainy. You might get lucky with sunny days, but be prepared for cold and raw. Sorry not to have better news... fingers crossed your days will be exceptionally nice!

Would love to be there at that time - enjoy, just go prepared. Crowds should not be bad - as KOOK said, it is Valentine's weekend, so it could be a bit more crowded. Feb starts out very low, more crowds for Valentine's weekend and then very crowded for Presidents weekend and week b/c Northeast schools are on winter break.

If you can go a weekend earlier crowds will be much better, as will cost.

Have a great trip!! ( I am seriously jealous.)

You can get crowd estimates (for free) at easywdw.com for any time of the year.

For weather for a particular time of year, I like the Weather Underground's Trip Planner. Here is the summary for your dates:

If you look at the year-by-year history, you'll see that it can vary by quite a bit from year to year. You really need to pack a little of everything, because you never know for sure what you'll get. I usually go a little later in February than this, and the weather is better more often than not.

if you go to the first page of this thread and scroll down the first post, there will be a map of the resort and you can see the layout and rooms. here is the link:

The WL is all in one bldg so any walking will be inside - but if you are at the end of the wing on the opposite side of the bldg it can be a 5+ min walk to Roaring Forks. You could make a request for a room close to RF - some on the first floor of that wing would be very close!

Last November we were over in the Villas, which appear far on the map, but it was not more than a 5 min walk to Roaring Forks - and a very nice walk as we chose to go outside.
