(CLOSED) Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE and VILLAS INFORMATION THREAD ~2014~

I have been looking at YouTube videos tonight. I am trying to picture where the path to the boat dock is. How do you get there? I am assuming it will remain open during the construction so that people can go back and forth to the MK and other resorts in the area.

I just got off the phone with Disney and I am so upset right now that I am considering canceling my trip altogether. Let me start off by saying that I loathe poor customer service and find that bad service can ruin things. I am by no means a snob or picky, just, having spent over 15 years in customer service I have little tolerance when someone offers no help to remedy a situation, or even acknowledge my concern. It's truly amazing how far a "let me see if I can help" will go.

I called Disney to simply ask questions about the pool refurb that will be going on during my stay. After reading on here that the geyser, waterfall, beach and spring in the lobby are closed, I needed to get additional info. I'm not really concerned about swimming because it's a short stay. However, I specifically choose this resort because of the geyser, the spring in the lobby and the waterfall. I was lead to believe when I booked my stay (directly with Disney) that it would be a simple pool refurb and those features would be unaffected.

This is not the case. In fact, the first person I talked to today had no idea that these were closed. She didn't believe me. Said that there will be no construction noise at all and only the pool and nothing else was closed. When I told her that I just literally saw photos of these closed features on Disboards from guests currently staying there, she put me on hold. A few minutes later a manager got on the line and did in fact confirm that every one of these features is in fact closed and will not re-open until the end of November.

I told her that this was never explained when I booked the room and that I am pretty upset about not being told this so I could be better informed when selecting a resort. Her only response was that "you are more then welcome to cancel your trip." She seemed genuinely pissed off that I found out this info on disboards. She just kept reiterating that I can cancel. Did not offer me any alternatives, an apology or a "how can I help?".

I was nothing but nice to this woman, I simply just wanted information on whether or not I should consider changing resorts. I am astonished by her reaction. She didn't not care at all or offer any sort of help to me. Unfortunately, I feel like this trip is now tainted and I should cancel altogether.

What are your thoughts?
You spoke to someone in a call center who had no idea as to particular info. They are not going to be able to advise you as to what you should do as far as resort choices go. Basically, they really don't much care if someone cancels a trip. There is no shortage of people that will book. It is ridiculously hard for people to get any idea as to what is going on in WDW. Those CM's that you reach when you call really aren't given the training, much less up to date info, that they need to have in order to really assist guests.

I'm confused as it was posted that the geyser was still erupting, the waterfall was closed earlier but is working again (same win spring inside) The walls do look like they block some views but it is working. So I am confused that you were told those things were closed?
The geyser was up and spouting when we left on Friday. I heard it wasn't going to be impacted by the refurb.

Diznotyzed I just wanted to say thank you for your photo updates. Hope you had a wonderful vacation.
You will walk down the ramp area from the lobby towards Roaring Forks and out the door in front of Roaring Forks. The path starts there...it will have boards up along its right side, where the pool is. It makes for a long walk for those staying in the villas though....we used to be able to walk past the DVC pool, behind the Lodge, and past the geyser to get to the dock....much shorter that way. Oh well.

It is very reassuring to hear you confirm what I said. :) Do you happen to know if the geyser uses lake water or just regular water? I couldn't remember what the guide said.

I'm not sure of that one either. I would think it would be regular water as who knows what is in that lake. We've gotten sprayed many times when the wind is just right, lol. :)

Just about ready to pass the baton to the next chronicler. We check out tomorrow. It's been a wonderful vacation, but we're not spring chickens anymore and can't take much more of this fun! ;) Really haven't heard a lot of noise from the wall going up. The area directly behind where the chairs are lined up on the beach is where the heavy vehicles and materials were moving through, so we could hear that when we were at the Villas pool. This afternoon was the only time we heard any noise in our CV room, and that was just a couple of bursts from a high powered screwdriver as they finished up the wall along the first floor south CV rooms. This past week was low crowds, and the Villas pool was never crowded. One CM guesstimated about a 30% occupancy. Now that the wall is completely surrounding the work area, I think you can only pass from one side of the Lodge to the other by going through the lobby or between the door at the courtyard side corner of the building near Roaring Forks, across the little bridge near the top of the waterfall and into a door in the south wing there. The stream and waterfall are beautifully flowing along. So this now makes two of us who had to ask to get the Blizzard Beach tickets. Hope they start consistently offering this. Off for some last minute fun!
Thank you for answering my question on the villa pool being not crowded and how to get to the boats. Glad you had a great trip! I am quite annoyed at the incredibly long walk from the villas that this creates though!!

I'm having a hard time understanding why majority of the beach is closed by looking at this image if the pool isn't even that close to the beach. It's nice knowing ahead of time what to expect (thank you posters for posting the pictures) instead of getting there and being disappointed. So much more is blocked off and closed than I imagined. :confused3. Really disappointed that there will be no outdoor beach movies, playground, beach bar. And I'm guessing no marshmallow roasting.

Can someone draw lines on this image showing exactly how much is blocked off? :flower3:

Based on the tracks in the sand, my guess is that the blocked off part of the beach is being used to move the equipment into the construction area. There is a road that runs somewhere behind the marina building. There is no other way to get the construction equipment into that area except through that access road.

This is just a guess. I'm sure about the north side, I'm just not sure if the exit door from the south wing is closed off or not. I know that you can't walk across the courtyard from the south wing to the north wing.

Thank you for this!! Makes sense regarding getting the construction equipment in. This will be very helpful when I show my family (also traveling with parents).

Yes, this is exactly why. They are using that road to bring in all the larger equipment and trucks.

This photo is from this sixth floor courtyard view. I took this today. This construction hasn't bothered us in the least and we got a savings of $50 per night and after park tickets! We are having a great time.

I'm glad to hear it is working out for you and that you're having a nice trip. That view isn't bad at all yet. Below is the IMG code for that image so it should show up inline:

Thanks for sharing. :thumbsup2

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, and I did try to review the previous pages for the answer to my question but there are a lot of pages and it just got to be too much.

I have read conflicting information regarding faxing room requests. I've been reading on other websites that the resorts just throw out room request faxes, and I'm wondering if this is true... does the Wilderness Lodge accept faxes for room requests, and if so, when should I fax my request?

If I am able to fax, is the correct number 407-824-3232?

I have a woods bunk bed view booked. I would like our room to open up to the main lobby. I would also like to see the tippy top of Cinderella's castle through the trees.

Should I request highest floor, woods view facing Magic Kingdom, opening to the main lobby? Should I try to specifically request the sixth floor?

Thank you so very much, in advance, for your help!
Stacie

Yes, I read that too. They are putting up Disney's Dream Lights on Cinderella's Castle.

Welcome! You chose a great place to get started participating in the DIS.

For room requests at WL, most people recommend calling the regular reservations number and having them added to your reservation. You can also add a few specific requests as part of online checkin. Requests from both of these methods will be visible to the room assignor when they assign your room approximately five days before your arrival.

As for faxes, Port Orleans resorts do take them for room requests, but some other resorts do not and I have not heard of WL accepting fax requests. I like your request list for what you want. I usually place the requests in order of importance, so if a MK view (which is North Wing) is most important I would state that first before the open to lobby request. There are relatively few rooms that meet all of your requests, so I would go with high floor rather than limiting it to the sixth floor.

When is your trip? Happy planning!

Thinking of booking a stay at WL for DW's birthday in February. Does anyone have recent experience with the Deluxe CL rooms? Some of the posts I've read are pretty negative. We've stayed CL at WL before, but not in a deluxe room.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi all. DH and I are returning to WL for an Adult Only trip this Christmas!
It was a struggle to pick a resort but WL won out as I know it wows at Christmas . It's DH's first trip at Christmas, my 2nd and both of our 2nd trip WL. We are staying Woods View, 12/7 to 12/12
