I wonder if the boat ride to MK will be affected?

I seriously doubt it. The likely only affect on the MK boats is you'll walk past the pool construction area to get there.

While a pool closure wouldn't keep me from coming, a Bay Lake closure would be a major issue. :sad2: Fortunately that is not currently a concern. September should still be awesome at WL. :thumbsup2

Greetings to everyone!

We are 32 days out from out 2nd trip to Disney and the OFC at Wilderness Lodge! I've been busying setting and changing ADRs and Fastpass+ reservations and I finally think I have things just exactly like I want them.....besides adding about two extra weeks on to the trip!

We are thinking about getting a pizza one night. I know that there is a pizza delivery service at WL but that it is expensive. Are there any other options that would deliver to the Lodge? Is that even allowed? Thanks!

We had Domino's pizza delivered straight to our room in BLT! I don't see why there would be a difference at WL! :thumbsup2

There is a phone book in the room and you can order off property pizza, but you need to meet them at the lobby, so it's not as convenient as the Disney pizza. I haven't tried Domino's, but a pp says they do room delivery. Whatever you do, if a pizza flyer appears under your door, do not use it to order pizza. Those are scams to get your credit card.

The Disney pizza starts at $18.99 for cheese and $2.00 for each topping, plus $3.00 delivery fee per entire order and 18% gratuity.

hi everyone

in regards to the pool closing, i am staying wl club level aug 21-28. I took the liberty to email the cl staff & here's what i got:

Good Afternoon,

The pool at The Wilderness Lodge will be closing for construction in
late August. The exact dates have yet to be announced. The quiet pool
will still be available for use. If you would like to inquire about
other resorts, Disney Reservations (407-934-7639) would be happy to
assist.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Have a magical day!

Happy Trails,
Lina

So, there you go. Not sure how accurate this is, but, it's from cl staff

How did you book a garden view room at GF? Was it rack rate? I called and checked FD and BB availability and they were sold out aside from a $17,000 room.
How did you not go ahead and book a room? Heck at that price, I'd book two rooms just for fun!!!! LOL LOL hope there are gold bars laying on the bed as a souvenir to take home with you!!!!! LOL Crazy!!!!!!!

Interesting, and still frustrating :rotfl:

We will be there as well from August 20th through the 29th on a free dining bounce back. I really wish someone knew what late August meant. This is a big trip for us; 25th wedding anniversary, 10th trip with kids, and the pool area\courtyard is a huge reason I booked at the lodge again. Too arrive and find that area closed would be bad. We spend a lot of time at the pool, and of course, it's one of the reasons we prefer the deluxe resorts.

I'm so tempted to book somewhere else, but the costs go up quick at any other deluxe. The cabins at Ft. Wilderness are a though, but the transportation thing there kind of annoying.

Ugh. Praying for some good info on dates before nothing else is available.

LOL....for a second I thought you were serious...my parents were just there and said some dude drove up in a Ferrari...they said he was huge and they thought he was from the NFL...those are the people who book those rooms...that's just insane.

How did you book a garden view room at GF? Was it rack rate? I called and checked FD and BB availability and they were sold out aside from a $17,000 room.

My total package was 5,000 which included 6 nights, 7day park hoppers, memory maker and free dining for 4 people. We had to pay rack rate to get free dining. Since we had an upgraded room at WL, moving to a GF garden room cost our family $600. We hope to try WL some time when there is less uncertainty. If you're looking to move, You might just check the website periodically as I've seen room categories close and then open back up as people change or cancel. Our dates are 9/20-9/26 so there may have been better availability based on it being a slower time. Good luck!

Hi everybody. We will be visiting the Lodge 8/5-13. All of this pool stuff has me very nervous. We spend a lot of time at the pool and planned to spend even more time since my husband had a bad accident last November and is still having a difficult time walking. We toyed with switching resorts but decided to stay at the Lodge and hope for the best. Hoping we don't regret that decision.

Hi all - I've been lurking in these boards and obsessively planning my family's first trip for Nov 1-8. I have 5 and 8 yr old kids so this news about the pool is disappointing, this is our "big Disney trip." Even if we come back we would probably stay moderate or off site so we are sort of splurging on WL (we are pretty frugal :)) although we are getting free dining.

Part of the reason to splurge us to enjoy the resort but if the big pool is closed and the view is of construction (courtyard view)...not that we won't have a good trip, but is it worth it? Trying to decide if I should switch to AKL while rooms for the promotion are still available. Advice?

Well ok that makes sense...when I said rack rate, I meant no discounts at all. That's good you got FD. Our current WL room is a courtyard view (not sure if you meant you had CL). My package only includes a one day ticket because we have some unused tickets, so for us FD is not as good of a deal. It's only 2 of us so RO BB was a better deal (35% off). I guess we'll keep checking but the thought of moving makes me sad....because it's not really in our budget to stay at GF and I don't want to get attached. I also love WL.

They are just so cute! Thank you. I'm sitting here at work and when she realized she was going to the Lodge I teared up. Yes, I'm mushy like that. :goodvibes
She also figured out the surprise so quickly! If I went under the WL gates, I'd just think he had a surrise meal planned, not a hotel stay!!

Ugh, this pool stuff has made me nervous enough to ask my TA about checking prices at GF and the CR for our dates-- September 16-22. It's not so much that we use the pool that often, but I LOVE Trout Pass and the main reason why we love WL is the beauty of the resort and tranquil feel. I know they have to do construction at some time, I would just prefer not to spend big bucks if that feel is going to be ruined...I am VERY much looking forward to a confirmed, official announcement from Disney with DATES.
I also really think they should be doing this in Jan-Feb. August and September are HOT months-- this is just crazy!!

I was surprised to hear AKL was still available when I called too. For us AKL is too far from everything. WL is only 5 min from MK. I guess it's hard to know how much of a mess the hotel will be - no one knows. Do your kids like animals? That might be a deciding factor. I love animals, but for me the distance to our favorite MK won out.

I don't know if you know but there is another pool.

I'm starting to get worried about our trip. We're staying Sept 20-27. This is our 2nd trip to Disney World. We're celebrating our oldest son's high school graduation, so we are splurging by staying at the Wilderness Lodge. My boys won't be happy if the pool is closed. And I've heard rumors that the Frozen coronation is going to be Sept 24...which we are not interested in. MK would be crazy that day, and we have pre-park opening breakfast ADR at Crystal Palace and dinner reservations at BOG that night. Highly unlikely we would be able to switch up our schedule.

This is what I'm thinking! It makes no sense to me to shut the pool down at the hottest point of the year!

I REALLY hope that rumor on frozen coronation is wrong- we are there that week also. Our last trip ended up being the Merida coronation (not planned that way) and it was much busier than anticipated. We have young DD's and really wanted nothing to do with the darn coronation- there were tons of people all around the hub and castle. I can only imagine Frozen coronation. Insanity!!!! 9/24 is a Wednesday but I'm sure people will come out of the woodwork for this. They'll announce this in advance, so I can just wait and wishful think on this one! Your ADR's should be fine but the crowds at the parade/fireworks and E ticket rides will be busy.

I hope you don't mind that before I get around to multi-quoting, I'd like to share a few thoughts I have about the pool closure. I want to preface my thoughts by saying that I fully understand and appreciate how the closure of the feature pool could have a negative impact and I'm not trying to downplay anyone's concern or disappointment. Having said that, I want to offer another perspective.

I've been fortunate to stay at Wilderness Lodge many times and each stay I never leave dissatisfied and each time I book a stay, I eagerly anticipate arriving, that's why I keep returning. It isn't just one thing that keeps me coming back. It's the totality of all Walt Disney World, Wilderness Lodge and the Bay Lake area has to offer.

Sometimes I meet a Cast Member who takes the time to make my interaction with him or her special and memorable. Sometimes it's the look I see on my family's face when they're happy and content. Sometimes it's the joyful look on a stranger's face as they're eating a Mickey Bar or holding hands with a loved one. My favorite look is the look of wonderment and amazement on someone's face when they enter the WL lobby for the first time and stop dead in their tracks and take it all in. It's the look on a child's face when they run up to a character and heartily embrace them. Is every part of every vacation like this? Of course not, but that's the part I like to remember and think about.

We all have moments of disappointment and frustration on vacation and we've all overheard (or been) the parent who has lost all patience or the child who has an inconsolable fit. This is the normal vacation evolution and it's bound to happen at some point, but despite those negatives, I bet most of us can't wait to return and after we get home, we think about how and when we can book our next trip.

What do you remember fondly from your last trip to WDW? No matter where you stayed, I bet your fondest memories of your Disney vacations involve things that made you smile and laugh, maybe even tear up. Something that surprised you, something unexpected, something magical. A new experience, an old favorite experience "re-imagined."

Maybe instead of focusing only on the possible pool closure during your stay, you could also consider a substitute activity such as going to a water park or the VWL pool or hanging out on the Bay Lake Beach (with a nice drink;)) while your kids play in the sand or on the playground. Maybe a nice bike ride or walk over to FW to see the stable and horses or maybe a pony ride. Maybe you could rent a boat or Sea Raycer so your child can feel the wind and spray in his face as you tour Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. And, maybe you'll even come face to face with the MK Ferry or the monorail will magically appear above you as you enter the No Wake Zone to cross over into Seven Seas Lagoon. Has it been a while since you've done some of those things or maybe you just never found the time?

I hope you'll consider exploring the Bay Lake area...

I'm getting so aggravated to think that the WL could be under construction during our stay Aug 18-27! This is our first time staying in a deluxe resort & heard so many great things about WL! My DH is already telling me to switch hotels but want to wait for accurate information! I don't want to regret a switch & hope for the best! To spend all this money, we should be told upfront about any possible rehabs!
