I currently have a Woods room reserved for Sept. What is my best bet to see the castle/fireworks with this option? Can anyone suggest any specific room numbers? I have never stayed at this resort and the map is confusing for me. I read somewhere that the north end is where I'll want to stay to see fireworks/castle. What is the highest I can be without paying more for a club level room?
Let me know how I can help clarify the room map. The Magic Kingdom is Northwest of WL, and the Woods view rooms are on the outside of the wings, colored in green. The North wing is on the top in the map, so those Woods rooms have balconies that face towards the MK.

In general it is better to request what you like about a particular room instead of a particular room number, since a particular room might not be available but one with similar qualities might be. The first digit of the room number indicates the floor of the resort, and the rest of the digits indicate the room's location, as shown on the map.

The highest non CL floor is 6, and all the rooms are available on that floor. The rooms in the East end of the wing on floor 6 are the top floor of the building, and therefore have enclosed balconies that are recessed into the roof of the resort. Rooms that aren't on the top floor of a section tend to have open railing that you can see through while seated.

Happy planning, and let me know how I can help.

My daughter and her family were in room 6010 and they had a perfect, unobstructed view of the fireworks. The room had a dormer balcony, though, and you had to stand to see out. I would think that there would be a similar view in room 5010. In general, a high floor in the north wing has the best chances of a view of the fireworks. The sixth floor is the highest non-club level floor. :)

Perfect! Thank you so much! I am so excited pixiedust:

HAPPY FRIDAY!

A very quiet Quiet Pool at VWL…(I was up early:hyper:)

And, a quiet place to sit…

Hopefully, the water will be back soon, if it isn't already...

1995 was our first stay (non-CL) room 6127 (I think) .. I think the photos are from 2002 or 2003. (my memory/details are a little hazy) There really wasn't a "lounge" per-se back then, just the side seating areas as it is now (facing the Registration desk and Whispering Canyon Cafe). as you can see, there wasn't any seating along the main walkway like there is now.
Was 6127 a Deluxe room back then or did they call it a Jr. Suite? All the "127s" sit underneath the Yellowstone Presidential Suite (7127) and are (now) Deluxe rooms.

I missed the original video post, but your stills intrigued me. That is a great video! I also checked on Amazon, and DJI Phantom 2 quadcopters are available with the camera mounts from about $1000. Hmm, I want one too... :lmao:
I saw that, too! I thought, gee, that's in the range of a DSLR:scratchin. I wonder if WDW has any "rules" about flying those camera drones around. If they don't, I'm sure after the first one crashes into something/body, the lawyers will quickly make some up:rolleyes2

When we were there last week the pool opened at 9am.
Thank you for posting for the OP. That sounds like the spring/summer opening time. At Christmas it was open at 10:00. Was it closing at 10 or 11?

Great information, as always.

Just a reminder: PAUL'S MAP is a wonderful resource.

I would LOVE to see this itinerary, if it is available for viewing! LOL, I am currently working on (driving my DH crazy with) our trip itinerary. So much fun! :)

:scratchin Well....there was no way I was going to bore you (and others) with 5 pages of details :rolleyes1 So I'll just give you an excerpt of my itinerary... Only over obsessive planning types like myself can appreciate such craftiness.... DH just left for work and his exact words were..."Are you REALLY going to subject innocent people to that??" Of course I am ::yes::

You really expect me to believe you're doing "nothing" at FW? No pool? No Chip 'N Dale? No HDDR? No driving around in that golf cart exploring every nook and cranny? No peeking through the fence at River Country;). You're just going to sit out on the porch and read a good book:coffee:. :idea:Maybe you could get started on that TR you HAVE to do.
:rotfl:

Nope! I don't expect you to believe it at all, but it sounded good :teeth:

I'm not the only one up with the chickens, I see... Hoping that water will be back by June 7th. All these pictures are making me a little anxious :hyper: I might have to ride my bike over to the Lodge next week and check things out!

Thank you for all this valuable information. So perhaps the best thing I should do is request a 6th floor room on the north end/ east side?

Do you know if all rooms on the 6th Floor have enclosed balconies or just those on the east end? I wonder if it is possible to still see MK and fireworks if I stay towards the middle or west end of the North side.

:rotfl: No kidding, right?!!! They just want to make sure you haven't forgotten;) We'll be there at the same time. Look for the family with the crazy kids running around and the parents yelling "Where's Jesse??"....That will be us! :thumbsup2 Our youngest child has been dubbed The Wanderer. He's been known to venture off on his own from time to time....

Hello fellow Lodgers,

I just spoke with a friend and they said that the springs and waterfall are still down. They weren't sure when it would be up again, but will find out by Sunday for me.

Makes for a very quiet lobby :sad1:

Sorry. If I get any more info, I will let you know.

No, not all of the 6th floor rooms have enclosed balconies. The 6th floor rooms in the lobby section and the wings closest to the lobby have open balconies on the 6th floor.

Here is the room map: http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=50126304&postcount=4

The 6th floor rooms with open balconies that face MK are numbered
6042 - 6066 - standard view
6081 - 6090 - woods view

Those rooms would be in the section that contains the lobby and the two wings that are closest to the lobby.

The 6th floor rooms that face MK and have enclosed (dormer) balconies are numbered: 6004 - 6034 - woods view

Wood Nymph posted the room numbers that indicate which part of the building has the 6th floor on top, and which portions have seven floors, and therefore open balconies on the 6th floor.

If a MK / Wishes view is your top priority, I would probably go with the East section of the North wing for a Woods view room. The ones at the West end that open to the lobby are nice, but have more trees between them and MK as you can see in the aerial photo posted below the map. The rooms in the middle section of the North wing have good MK views too (and open balconies), but are above a service area and classified as Standard View, not Woods View.

I am so very confused so please can you help me.

I keep looking at all the great pictures of the WL on this thread and the resort photo thread:thumbsup2 Its hard to tell where the 7th floor is for the club level. Each time I count the floors I only count 6.

We have only stayed at WL 1 time in 2012. Renovations were still in progress and though I paid for a woods view we were given a 5th floor bay lake view at the end of the south wing. It was fabulous:yay:

This trip we are staying at the WL with a courtyard view. But my son and his family are staying club level. I want to change my request from upper floor to high floor (5 or 6) inner cy view, or should I just say 5th floor because we would want an open balcony like last time. I don't know what view to request for my son. I don't even know if he realized the enclosed balcony situation. Since they are up so high, should I request north wing woods view or inner cy view. Do the CL rooms extend out to the end of both the north and south wing?

Sorry so long I just don't want anyone to be disappointed. My son hasn't been to WDW since his youth.

You are totally speaking my language with this itinerary! I LOVE it! I am working on something similar and will have to upload a preview when I have it complete. :) (If I can EVER figure out how to upload a photo! LOL)

If your son is staying club level, then he will get an enclosed balcony. I think he has to make his room request by emailing IPO. If you have a courtyard view room and want to be near his room, then a request for inner courtyard, open balcony, near lobby or elevators will give you the best chance of being close to club level but having an open balcony. You can't go up to club level anyway, he will either have to come to you or you would meet him somewhere like the lobby. :)

No, the club level rooms do not extend to the end of the wings. They only extend out to the first section. We need better diagrams. ;)
And the layout of the WL is very confusing. :confused3

Here is my pathetic attempt to indicate the location of the regular club level rooms using Paint. I am not into graphics at all.:sad2:

The sections of the resort circled in yellow contain the regular club level rooms. There are other rooms that are club level, but they are deluxe rooms, honeymoon rooms and suites.

Boo... We arrive Sunday and I LOVE listening to the sound of the waterfall. Glad to know ahead of time though so thanks for passing on the info.

For the past six months (since we returned from our last fall visit) we have been "discussing" our fall 2014 trip. (I'm the planner, so it was more presenting the alternatives...) :headache: WL or AKL? Maybe we should try BC this year? Mid September, October, November? Work issues may force early October. Work issues changed (and staff), we may need to go in September now. But November is our favorite. Finally a decision was made!

popcorn::

We will be staying at the WL, WV room, October 31 to November 5! All those uncertainties in my spreadsheet were driving me nuts! :scared:

Now I get to start comparing all the deals and pricing info while waiting for the F&W schedule to be released.

We will actually be staying at the Park That Must Not Be Named for a night before arriving at WL. Can't wait for fall! :yay:

Wood Nymph. you are so very thoughtful. I didn't think we had access to his level. I want a high floor for myself, dd and dgd. We go to WDW every year and the year we stayed at the WL was as I said fabulous.
This year I am also taking my son's family. I booked us all orginally CY room with the DP. When I was going over all the plans my son mentioned maybe needing more food then available on the DP. Since it is their 1st time staying at WDW and also their wedding anniversary I decided to upgrade them to CL.

This may sound silly I just want everyone to be happy. No family jealousy. Just because they are both adults, they are still brother and sister and you know how that can go. Since he does have an enclosed balcony, should I request N/S Woods view for a possible view of the fireworks? Also since I did change my son to CL not too long ago and he hasn't been sent any special emails, should I still be requesting through IPO email or call?

You are so very helpful, thank you.
