Our flight lands at 9:46. What do they use to determine if they will deliver your bags or if you need to get them yourself? The actual landing time that is posted on all the monitors? Worried as it is so close and we will have four suitcases, all our carry ons, a stroller, and two kids. If we land at 9:59 are we ok?

9:59 is cutting it a little close. You should gather your own bags and take them to DME. I'm sure you will want them when you get to your room being that late.
It normally takes at least 3 hrs during the daytime to get bags delieverd.

Assume that, if your plane stops* at the gate after 10 PM, you will need to go to the carousels to get your bags. Should you not find your bags there, file a baggage claim before leaving the area. If your plane stops at the gate before 10 PM, you may proceed directly to the DME welcoming area and any baggage claim needed would be filed at your resort. Exception: Go or do not go to the carousels as directed proactively or spontaneously by airport staff.

At some future date Magical Express may publish more precise instructions.

Normally, yellow DME tagged bags are processed for room delivery during the daytime without ever appearing on the carousels.

* The need to go to the carousels is the same for all Disney guests on that plane whether first or last off.

If we didn't get them would they be delivered the next day? We will have everything we need that for night and our first day in our carry ons (since our kids will be in bed way before the luggage would be delivered - in fact, we are changing rooms after the first night anyway so would ask they not be delivered at all that first night regardless). Just REALLY don't want to have to lug all those suitcases with everything else.

I believe I have read flights after 10pm do not guarantee
luggage delivery the same day from ME - you might get lucky !?

I would play it safe and take care of your own bags. Our last trip we arrived at 10am and did not see our bags till after 9pm that night so if you need items in your bag you may not see it till morning.

Well, it seems you have a few choices.....tag the bags and see what happens. Worst case scenario is that you get the bags the next day. Pack what you'll need for that night and the next morning in your carry on bags.
Or, don't tag the bags, and get them yourselves at baggage claim and bring them to the bus with you.
Or....tag all bags but one. Pack what you'll need for the night and next day in that one checked bag. Go to baggage claim and get it. If your bags get held to the next day, at least you'll have clothes and toiletries to get settled in with. You can unpack a bit and get on with your day.

My issue is that the tagged bags would probably go to baggage claim anyway, if it's 10 or later. They would just go around and around until the employees in baggage claim came and took them off and put them away for the night. I hate the thought of my bags being unattended for that long..out in the public eye on that carousel.

Summer of 2010 we took our 3 grandkids. Our flight was due at 9:45pm also, but was a little late. We had the kids pack jammies and undies in their backpacks, and check all bags thru with yellow Magical Exp tags. We didn't get to the Contemporary until about midnight, and were checking into Bay Lake Tower the next day for 6 nights. We were very surprised when we had a knock on the door about 1:00am and it was our bags from our flight! Kids were wired so still awake. Honestly, we had figured we probably wouldn't get until the next morning, so loved the service! Of course it might not always work that way, but it should all work out in the end either way you decide. But if you need the bags for sure, you can pick them up on the luggage carousel and have a porter help you tote the bags to Magical Exp.

Just REALLY don't want to have to lug all those suitcases with everything else.

Up your tip budget and hire a porter. They'll get your bags off the carousel, put them on their big cart, and escort you to the DME area. From our experience they know exactly where to go and move to the front of the boarding area while you check in and go through your line. When it's time for you to get on the bus, they meet you again and hand the bags off to the driver. You thank and tip them (generally people give $1-2 per bag...you could put the carryons and strollers onto their cart too, if you wanted to, so you're as hands free as possible), the driver puts the bags (and most of the other stuff you'll have in your hands) under the bus.

When you get to the resort, the driver takes it all out from under the bus. Thank and tip the driver.

Send someone into the resort to see if there's a Bell/Luggage Services person that can help you with the bags. Again, that person would be someone you would want to tip.

It ends up being heavy on the tip dollars, but there is no need for you to exhaust yourself by lugging your stuff around. Helps out the people who handle your luggage and it helps you!
