Honestly, if you've paid and can't get your money back, I'd go. They can't do much if they've already laid you off. Tell them you have plans, you can't change them and you would like to get your last paycheck with all your vacation/sick pay at the end of this week. I'm so sorry for your job loss, I hope you are able to find something soon and I really hope you can go to Disney!![]()
Your threads have helped, and my my wife is trying to muster the courage to go on tomorrow as planned. Trying even harder to find someone who can take the time off to go with her on short notice.
Thanks so much for the support. I don't want to sound like a sob story. I'm just one of thousands in my own company let go this week, let alone all the others you hear on the news. Reflecting on it, it is probably a rare thing for the timing to be right.
Thanks again, and good luck to all others out there who find themselves in the same situation.
J/k of course. I wish I could go though. I think dh would kill me, ha ha! I hope she goes and I wish you could go with her. I think it stinks that you have a trip planned and your company won't let you take the trip anyway...We actually rented DVC points from a member on this site and were told there was nothing we can do. Seeing how we are not owners ourselves, unfortunately we are not able to deal directly with WDW.
We were booked and headed to Disney on Sat, but laid off today. Must finish two weeks so no trip for the kids. We have 3 kids, DD 6, DD3 and DS2, all who have talked nonstop about trip. They cleaned every day to earn $$ for their souveniers. DS 6 checked out travel books from the library to go over all the rides, and even read about DW to the younger ones. She wrote letters to people on the trip, all drew pictures, etc. How do we break the news? At their age, I know they won't understand the concept.
Also, just adds salt to the wound when you can't get your money back.![]()
As a DVC member I am embarrassed of their treatment. Would this trip be your first at a DVC property? I hope you wont give up on trying it out again at some point. The "apartment" setting is perfect for families like yours.
I hate it that your family may go without you! I can not imagine going without my DH. Is there any way you could meet them there over the weekend?

I'm a DVC member too. I don't know how the DVC member could help the OP. OP my heart breaks for your situation, but I think if the DVC'r canceled your reservation with member services, the points would go into a 30 day use them or lose them situation. Maybe I'm confused, but I remember there being strings attached to late cancellations.:
SandJ7749, I had to go look up the guidelines in my Member Book.
I stand corrected. I thought last minute cancellations resulted in the member (or renter, theoretically) having to use the points within 30 days. In reading about the holding account, it sounds like you could re-book anytime within the calendar year, pending availability. OP, again, I'm sorry for your situation.
