I Feel So Bad For You, I Hope Things Start Looking Up.
Your threads have helped, and my my wife is trying to muster the courage to go on tomorrow as planned. Trying even harder to find someone who can take the time off to go with her on short notice.
Thanks so much for the support. I don't want to sound like a sob story. I'm just one of thousands in my own company let go this week, let alone all the others you hear on the news. Reflecting on it, it is probably a rare thing for the timing to be right.
Thanks again, and good luck to all others out there who find themselves in the same situation.
I agree with those who posted that my worker rights lie in taking the trip. Of course HR and boss didn't see it that way, but they postponed my departure this afternoon for an entire month (unrelated of course). Too happy about that to rock the boat now.
Wife is taking kids and dragged in her mother. Even though I wanted to experience it with them, happy they will have the memories.

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. I'm glad the kids got to go- sorry you are missing it. We had to cancel a Disney trip 4 years ago when our kids were 5 and 7- same as yours, they had worked to earn money for spending and we had planned the trip for 2 years. DH got laid off and it was far enough out to cancel. It was very hard to make the kids understand and all we could say was- we'll go as soon as we can- that was 3 years later! DD cried for a month! And, to add salt to the wound- her grandparents and my brother's family went that year- they already had a trip planned. Anyway...I'm happy your wife and kids are getting to go. Glad to hear you got another month of work though- that is wonderful! Congratulations!I agree with those who posted that my worker rights lie in taking the trip. I'm glad you got an extra month out of your employer, it's another month of income, but I'm sorry you won't get to go to Disney. It's an excuse to go again as a family once you're back in a better financial place.

Unemployment does pay if you have been fired in many cases. Once the OP explains the situation they can very well still get their unemployment as they are not being fired for being a problem worker.

Honestly, if you've paid and can't get your money back, I'd go. They can't do much if they've already laid you off. Tell them you have plans, you can't change them and you would like to get your last paycheck with all your vacation/sick pay at the end of this week. I'm so sorry for your job loss, I hope you are able to find something soon and I really hope you can go to Disney!![]()
