Anything you can send my way to help make my trip easier.

We will be at WDW for 2 weeks - in November - and will be driving from PA.

I want to learn your little tips and tricks for a smoother vacation :)

Since you're driving, I would recommend bringing water, sodas, and snacks/breakfast food with you. It helps save a lot of money so you're not using snack credits or paying for as many snacks!

Also, if you happen to drink, we are planning on bringing a couple bottles of wine and maybe some beer to have in the room instead of buying them at the hotel (ridiculous prices for a bottle of beer at both the pool bar and gift shop. Like one beer was the price of a six pack at home)

And if you have little ones and a cooler, bringing a gallon of milk could help save money and be more convenient!

Also things like ponchos, gum, hand sanitizer, glow sticks, etc for the parks are good to pack as well.

Hope this helps!!

Don't even think about packing enough clothes to last 2+ weeks. Bring your own detergent and do laundry half way thru your trip on a down day. Because if you will be there for 2 weeks, you WILL have a down (non park) day, whether you plan it or not.

I agree with the above suggestions. We always do laundry in our villa (our first year, I used the facilities at WL since we were in regular rooms). We had always flown, so this was to keep down on luggage; however, this November we're driving (going down the end of November/beginning of December) and my mom and I have already made a list of what we're taking:

bottled water
cereal
coffee
French Press
(we're coffee snobs - why not bring it?)
box fan (the little one needs white noise to sleep)
laundry detergent (powder)
dryer sheets
Disney-themed souvenirs (purchased on sale at Disney Store, etc. ahead of time so we can dole them out to the kids w/o having to pay up at the parks)
umbrellas and ponchos (it rains that time of year! Don't buy them at the park
A few old blankets nice to wrap up in during the evening parades!

We drive from central NY and have found it very helpful for each child to have their own DVD player (and headphones!) and stash of movies (they're 12). They pick out what they want to watch and they each have a case to hold the discs. They also each have an iPod touch to listen to music.

We have a snack box behind the last seat and it has chips, pretzels, granola bars, etc. and whoever is in that seat is in charge of passing those snacks out. The person in the middle seat is in charge of the cooler - where we have baggies of grapes, cheese cubes, apples, carrot & celery sticks, small things of hummus, soda, water, and capri sun, etc. They seem to enjoy having a 'job".

We also pack a Rubbermaid box for each of them - it holds blank paper, colored pencils, pen & pencil, books, deck of cards, journal, and whatever else they want to bring that will fit in there.

When they were about 3 we flew down and I made up 'grab bags" for them for each day of the trip. I bought small toys / stuffed animals ($1 spot at Target, and from Michaels) and wrapped them up and put each thing in a brown paper lunch bag. They absolutely loved getting a little present to unwrap -and it helped keep them occupied on the plane.

Years ago there was a thread on here about leaving notes and a little surprise each morning from Tinker Bell. It was really clever - people would write out the notes at home in a really tiny font, print them out and tie them up like a scroll.

I like to avoid sodas when I go to theme parks cause of all the excessive walking so I try to stick with water. If you're anything like me and not picky about tap water / water fountains... water bottles. They also sell those water bottles with the built in water purifiers in it as well.

I brought two with me on my last trip and those probably saved me an arm and a leg at the parks.

If you do decide on doing the bottles I would recommend filling them up halfway and freezing overnight and filling the rest before you head over to the parks so you can keep it cool throughout the day.

Also since you're staying two weeks - assuming you're bringing the whole clan with you - one of those plastic cubbies for shoes that hangs behind a door would help. I know when I travel with a group 4+ all in one room/unit it gets annoying when people leave their shoes / smaller objects around so its easy to just store it in that. I like to use the spare slots for wallets/ tickets/ portable fans/ etc.

And of course the ever so useful rain poncho. We always purchase these at our local dollar store so we don't have to pay the 8 - 12$ for it at the park when the ever-so changing Orlando weather changes.

Not sure where in Pennsi you're coming from but heres a lol insight of what we did.

1st off, Are you guys driving straight through or stopping somewhere along the way?

2 times we did the drive, both times without staying over anywhere. Coming from northern NJ to WDW it took roughly hrs.

The main thing I will suggest is (if you're planning on not stopping) then leave at a time in th p.m. that will get you near wash.d.c. no earlier than 7:30pm. For us we left at 330 or 4:00pm and got there around 8 or so. This is key and traffic near that city will have already subsided a bit. Also, grab a bite and have your kids ready to sleep. For us it worked out great, we ate along the way, then they changed into pj's n brushed teeth, then basically went to sleep from 9:00 -6:00 the next morning. Most of the trip was basically done. So there's no," Are we there yet nonsense.?" .LoL.

We are driving next week, too - and bringing our entire Disney stuffed animal collection. It really brightens up the resort room, and mousekeeping arranges them for us in fun ways!

Can I just say I love these tips from everyone and you are all so helpful!!!

We will be traveling from NE Pennsylvania - we did it before and it took about 18 hours. We will start at about 4 pm on Friday and we will drive straight through. I will start and then my husband will take over. We also now have a DD who drives but who knows if she will be up for it at all. Plus one of us would almost have to stay awake with her anyway lol. If we go all night, as planned, then they will all sleep and that will be better for everyone. We had a really great time last time we drove. Even the flat tire at 2:00 am on a Sunday turned into an amazing adventure when two guys at a gas station helped us - they were and are our angels!!!!

Don't know the ages of your kids, but I had mine help me make a skinny binder for each with a map of each state we'd drive through, trivia facts about each state (don't remember where I found them, but very easy to google state printables or state trivia), license plate bingo state list, blank sheets of paper for doodling, put them in a page protector and you can write on/wipe off with a dry erase marker. Also printed a game called "Snoopy Sam" I found online - a list of items for each player to find in passing cars (someone reading, someone smoking, car with a bike rack, someone with glasses, with a hat) each list has different items (some overlap is ok) but equal number to find. First to complete wins. spot someone picking their nose and you're automatic winner! :bitelip:

One thing I always bring is a box of ZIPLOCK bags! Leftovers, wet clothes, cell phones on water rides - so many uses for them!

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

We're driving from New England soon too...second time, so it's not so bad!! Stopping in VA overnight though as I'm not sure we have the stamina to drive 21 hours straight through though yet!

Ditto on Ziploc bags....gallon size! They came in handy once when one of my little ones got sick :/ Aside from that, lots of water, snacks, wetones & a roll of paper towels. Bringing electronics, but also found a couple of great road trip games for cheap on Amazon :)

Safe travels!!!

car chargers for all electronics and not a car tip but a plug in strip for charging everything in room at night

We drive from MA to WDW every time - trip time is about 23 hours straight and I've always driven it in 1 stretch. It's long but we leave around supper time and get to WDW around supper time the next day, eat at DTD, and then bed early so we're ready to go for rope drop the next morning. Maybe because of the fact that we've taken the kids on road trips consistently, they travel well with minimal issues.

To eat up time (pun intended) we leave the house around 5pm, stop and pick up something for dinner - pizza, grinders, Boston Market, whatever. Food they generally only get once in a blue moon as I generally cook 7 days a week. They eat at the beginning of the trip. Doesn't take up a lot of time but still keeps them busy. Then we usually pop in a dvd - when they were younger they watched the same thing, as they've gotten older we've learned to bring 2 of everything - they each have a dvd player, IPod, DS, and ear buds. They have the option of watching/doing the same thing but also the ability to do their own thing if wanted. They fall asleep at that point and we drive through the night. Sometime around 7-8am we stop for breakfast. And by that I mean STOP and sit down somewhere and eat breakfast - Usually somewhere that has a kiddie play spot - McDonalds. Kids get a chance to blow off some steam. Then we make the last stretch and get to hotel & check in. Bathroom stops whenever needed but try to make them around gas fill and coffee stops. I drive 99% of the time but that's only because I drive distance better.

What to pack for the actual trip -
- kids get a backpack to fill with whatever they think they would like to use during the trip - DS, phones, I-pod, Nook/Kindle, have to fit in the bag - not those items plus. I pack a couple extra dvd's of my choosing just to make sure there is something mutual. Summer reading book, drawing items, etc. whatever that child is into. I do make recommendations.
- snacks - again I try to pack things that they don't normally get around home as well as favorites. Goldfish, PB crackers, gummy snacks, juice boxes, those cheese and cracker stick things, pretzels, fruit.
- a plastic coffee ground container (empty) - great to have just in case of a car sick moment. Nice to have a solid container vs. plastic bags that the child can have and the nice cover to ward off those vomit aroma's. If you don't use the container, it's awesome to use at the hotel to throw small things into - change, cards, anything the kids pick up (or this scrapbooking momma).
- favorite pillow, lap blanket - we bring these as we tend to travel during the fall season and it's chillier up north here. Also the kids tend to sleep better when they have their own familiar items. When they were younger we brought their security item - DS was a pooh bear, DD was a teddy bear blanket (bear bear).
- trash bag for trash - snack containers, coffee cups, etc. I usually just bring a bunch of those bags you get at the grocery store/Walmart/etc. and throw them out as I stop for gas, coffee, potty breaks. No cost to me to get the bags and easy to tie & toss at rest stops.

While I know we have a lot of room with the car vs. 1 bag with flying I still try to only pack what we need vs. the whole house. Usually my daughter will get a "dust collector" AKA stuffed animal(s) at WDW so we let mousekeeping play with the new animals - flamingo & pooh were caught watching tv several times. Inside the car has to be "livable" and not overly crowded for the people IN the car. I put everything we don't need for several hours in the trunk.

Our trips have been 10-14 days long so I plan on a pool/laundry day - throw in a load, sit by the pool while kids swim, change to dryer, sit by the pool. I just use the pull suitcase to transport clothes back & forth to laundry facilities - no extra baggage. I plan on bringing the laundry soap pods and fabric conditioner sheets - in the past I brought the almost empty bottle of laundry detergent (pre-pods) and just finished it and threw the container away.

I bring beach towels from home for the pool as the pool facilities don't have extra towels plus the colorful towels stand out in the pool area so we don't have to search for "our" area.

Ziplock bags quart and gallon size. As I mentioned earlier I scrapbook so I always have a couple bags in the park bag - backpack or camera bag. Confetti, maps, etc. that I see in the park end up being collected for later usage. But there are a lot of other uses for ziplocks.

I try to hit a grocery store on the way to the hotel and buy local fresh produce. This way we have healthy snacks IN the hotel room during our trip. I bring a case of water as we are a HUGE water family vs. soda/juice, granola bars, individual packages of nuts/raisins - these are items I pack in our park bag as well. Not a lot but enough to hit those waiting in line and wanna munch moments. If we go to a buffet breakfast there is usually fresh whole fruit and we try to grab a couple oranges/apples to snack on later on.

For your personal care items that you bring from home - I try to pack the nearly empty items - shampoo bottle, conditioner, etc. so I finish the product while there and toss the container. A lot of mail freebies are travel size too so I make sure to sign up for the ones I know we would use and pack that stuff for traveling. This way I have less stuff coming home vs. going and more room for souveniers.

When we drove from northern Indiana, I took a tote with all kinds of snacks and a cooler with juice boxes and water. The kids could pick a snack and drink once an hour. That way they weren't asking us nonstop for something and it really cut down on potty breaks.

Also, we left in the middle of the afternoon and planned to get through Atlanta around 2AM, that worked great!! No traffic :)

We packed a picnic dinner and let the kiddos throw a ball around for a bit, then loaded up. Around 7PM, we stopped for a potty break and I passed out gallon sized bags of (already popped) popcorn and surprised the kids with a new movie...they had movie night before bed:thumbsup2 They loved that!

They slept through the night, we pulled into Denny's for breakfast a 7AM and we to the resort at 8AM and our room was ready:cool1:

The drive was great!!

I see your are staying at an All Star resort. I would make a quick trip to the Target on W Irlo Bronson, it isn't that far away. You can pick up all those things you were thinking of hauling - breakfast stuff, bottled water etc.
