Does anyone have a website address that list various places/things to do in these areas? Also, how far is Clearwater Beach from St. Pete's? I have a map but it doesn't give miles to inches.

We would like to take a short day-cruise up the coast -- maybe a couple of hours. I read somewhere about a cruise by the Bay Bridge area? Is there a intercoastal waterway trip too -- did this in Ft. Lauderdale and it was great! And go to Shell Island. Any other suggestions for this area? We'll be spending the day -- how about someplace inexpensive to eat? Fast food would be OK but would rather have a cheap sit-down reastaurant (not fish!).

As usual, thanks for any/all info. Don't know how people plan a WDW & area vacation without these boards!!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Hi! According to maps.com, it's about 20 miles from St. Pete's Beach to Clearwater Beach (shortest route), which should take about 35 mins. without traffic. If you travel all the way up the coast via the barrier islands it will definitely take longer but would probably be a nice drive. Hope this helps! Have fun!! :teeth:

We've stayed both Clearwater and the last two years at St Pete's Beach - loved every minute.

If you want to go for a boat trip would thoroughly recommend the Destiny Yacht Charter's sailing, shelling and snorkelling dolphin watch cruises. These take half a day, so you pack a picnic. The Shell Island trip is aboard a beautiful yacht, so you sail for about an hour watching the dolphins, then arrive at Shell Island where you can snorkel and . . . well, just shell;) Then a lovely trip back for more dolphin. Their other vessel is a motor launch which again is half a day and you cruise over to Egmont Key where yo snorkel. It's so beautiful there. Little island to wander around with submerged fortresses from a hurricane wreck.

Both boats go from the Tierra Verde Marina, about 5 mins max in the car from St Pete Beach.

Clearwater also offers a number of boat trips - Captain Memo's pirate cruise - brilliant - dolphin watches or The Screamer, the largest speedboat :).

There are loads of restauarants in both areas. We stayed on Sand Key next to Clearwater and there is The Boardwalk, full of little shops and restaurants, but Clearwater is full of restaurants, cheap, medium or expensive. St Pete Beach also has a wide variety from Burger King, Bennigans to Sila Dents if you really want to stuff your face. Even a Ponderosa for lunch and evening buffets and Sunday brunch.

It's a lovely drive down to St Pete from Clearwater down the islands - about 35-40 mins slowly. Along the way is the Suncoast Wild Bird Sanctuary, well worth stopping at.

If you need any more info - shout;)

It's a bar with excellent food. There are a couple of them around Clearwater. Fish is there specialty but everything on the menu is good and nothing is over $5-$10. I love there grouper sandwiches, but had a good club sandwich last year there.
