We are headed to Orlando this summer and promised our kids a day at the beach. After some debating we decided to leave a day early and stay the night at Clearwater Beach prior tp checking into our resort in Orlando. We won't be getting there until a little later in the evening so we want to be on the beach so we can get up early and hit the beach before leaving Sat. afternoon. I am looking for recommendations for a decent hotel on the beach and an affordable restaurant for dinner on the night we arrive. Thanks!

Clearwater Beach as in Clearwater/St Petersburg/Tampa right? I just drove from Tampa to Orlando a couple days ago. I'd plan 1:45-2hrs for the drive from the beach to Disney.

Guppies on the Beach. I just ate there last week and it was excellent, prices were fine. Should be plenty of options for the family. But really, you may not even want to make a formal reservation. There's plenty of touristy Beachy places you may stumble upon.

For a hotel, I've never stayed there but ran the beach a few times. All the name brand hotels at Clearwater Beach where 60 ends at the beach looked very nice. The offbrand hotels seemed fine for that matter too. Anything near the Hyatt Regency at the Beach should be fine. There is also a Hilton Clearwater just north of 60. That entire area is walking distance. If it were me I'd pick one of those two just based on name recognition since my family is not adventurous in such matters.

We've stayed at the doubletree in N. Redington beach, which is the next beach down from Clearwater on gulf blvd. it's a small clean hotel on the beach with a pool and a restaurant
