Ok I cant believe this but I stopped in a Buc ees for the first time ever and they were the cleanest public bathrooms ever in my lifetime. You could eat off the floor. I dont give out kudos very often, but gezus. I've used the bathrooms at some very high end hotels and yes they are very clean but damn, for a truck stop....

Heard good things about the Shoji Kabuchi Theatre in Branson, Missouri.

The problem with men's rooms is that they don't stay clean for long. Someone has to come in often to keep them clean.

The ones that are pretty clean are the automated public toilets from JC Decaux. But they basically rinse the interior down between users.

I hear Buc-ees is pretty good. So is Disney in general (though we all have stories). Really though, the next-level of clean restrooms was when I visited Japan! The restrooms in the extremely busy Tokyo Station were immaculate, and when I went to Tokyo Disney? You could eat lunch in there! Of course, part of that is that the people don't make a mess in there and are very fastidious and considerate, so that helps.

They're famously *not* a truck stop. ;)

Any time I've been in one, there's been a bathroom attendant checking/cleaning between people... it is impressive.

The various Sheetz between our route from Buffalo to Baltimore used to be very clean but unfortunately that is NOT the case anymore.

I remember going to this hotel (owned by a Hong Kong company) in mainland China where there was an attendant just to hand over paper towels to people washing hands in the lobby's bathroom. That was fine. But on the same trip we stayed at the company's flagship hotel in Hong Kong. I had to go while our party was checking in and they too had an attendant. But once he was done he put his hand out like he wanted a tip, but I had no local money yet. And in any case I'm not sure what kind of tip he expected from a teen.

I suppose that also allowed them to monitor the state of the facilities and have them cleaned often.

We plan our road trips in Texas to stop at Buc-ee's. Their bathrooms are always clean.

Getting harder and harder to tell around here. So many places have "No Public Restrooms" posted these days. Or require a purchase to get the code for the bathroom door.

Or a token. I've been handed more than one before and I would stash the extras in my pocket to use at a later date.

I wold note that it's very difficult to keep a bathroom clean. It's just the nature of its use. It requires regular maintenance quickly after someone misses. Then that leaves the issue that the floor is wet, which either makes it slippery or people track their shoes on a wet floor. And most people aren't really going to clean up after themselves, although I try the best I can.

Well, it could be worse. My daughter moved to Germany a year ago and is ranting about pay toilets. There are a few places that have free toilets, like the train and bus station. And so far in her experience, the pay toilets are no cleaner than the free ones.
