Clean tubs?

Where are you reading about the rooms being nasty. I have stayed at WDW dozens of times in all levels of resorts have always had very clean rooms. In fact the rooms including the tubs have always been spotless. And believe me I check.

I would like to know this too! The rooms are spotless. I do use Clorox Wipes on the surfaces of our room.

I am also bad. Last year I made my family stay in the hall while I stripped the beds and got rid of the quilts and then sprayed and wiped everything down. Once I did that I felt a lot better about having my family in the room. My husband also thinks I am crazy and HATES the smell of Lysol. I remind him that it is Lysol or sick and he then chooses Lyson. That being said, I have everyone use "magic soap" (antibacterial lotion) after EVERY ride.

i guess you missed the coffee pot thread i started a few days ago... for some reason it got moved to the community boards... talk about neurotic! (i'm talking about me - LOL).

anyway, i lysol everything in the room and bathroom - even the chairs, daybed, etc, then wipe every surface i can w/ lysol wipes. so you're not alone. dh and i started being sort of germophobic because of medical issues w/ dd, and it blossomed from there

and my rooms at wdw have never been spotless, especially the bathrooms. they're usually not anything i'd call housekeeping about, but very obviously just barely wiped in the 'centers' of everything (the tubs, floors, counters). look in the corners people! (or don't if you don't mind the 'stuff') ewwwwwwwwww! :rotfl:

you can buy scented lysol wipes (i like orange) so the smell from the lysol isn't so bad.

I skipped the shows on Dateline because I didn't want to be too picky, but I did read some stuff on here anyway. I stayed at the Hilton on Michigan Ave in Chicago last night as part of a mini spring break trip to the aquarium and a museum. They have feather pillows and comforters and I am allergic. I was actually relieved that they gave me fresh pillows and switched my comforter for a blanket. They also had all bedding wrapped in sheets, which is nice for the germ factor but a bit of an adventure if you have to make a trip to the bathroom at night and try to get back in the bed without waking your DD. This is a bit OT but btw, a small carton of chocolate milk in the hotel was $3.03. :scared1: And we think Disney is expensive

You might want to limit yourself on that. Antibacterial soap does far more bad than good.

I brought those Dawn dish soap pads last time and the thing I liked about them was they are completely dry. The soap doesn't "activate" until you get them wet. I liked that better than carrying any type of wipe. And you can get the antibacterial kind. I actually brought them to wash my kids sippy cups though. I thought the tub was very clean in our room at ASMo.

Did you bring your own Sheets? :confused3

For peace of mind, do what feels right. Chlorox wipes pack very nicely and if it makes somebody feel better to use them that is worth something in my book. I used to worry about stuff like that, I took off the bedspreads, wiped down everything in the room but for some reason I don't do that anymore. Maybe because I feel like its a losing battle. You eat a taco at Taco Bell made by someone's bare, unwashed, nasty hands or use the ATM, then hand your kid a cookie with the same hand that just touched the nasty ATM, it just goes on and on! I was literally driving myself crazy with all of this! Now I just inspect closely, rinse the tub out with very hot water (more to rinse cleaning residue down the drain), wash my hands after the bathroom and before eating and hope nothing kills me until I get back home from WDW. I figure as soon as I board the plane and start breathing bird flu germs or whatever its pretty much set in stone I have become a germ breeding ground. And I do have to say that the rooms I have stayed in at WDW from values to DVC are the cleanest I have stayed in anywhere.

I like to play in the dirt with the rest of the kids...old and young (I'm 25), as long as I can bathe at the end of the day.

I have had the misfortune of contracting something from staying in a hotel room, either that or the gym, but I don't do anything in the gym lockerooms except for maybe pee, and I do that hovering. I don't care how clean a hotel room looks, it doesn't hurt to wipe it down...and from personal experience TAKE THE BEDSPREADS OFF THE BED.

My misfortune was't at WDW (I've never been yet), but you never know who has done what in a room before you.

While we are on the subject.....We always use wipes before we eat (how often do they change the serving spoons at buffets?) just think about it.
I use a paper towel to turn off the water after washing my hands, and for opening the bathroom door. :p

oh great, something else I havent thought about!!

What I have been thinking about is... our last WDW stay - the mousekeepers didnt clean every day - they made beds, they gave fresh towels...

I'm bringing lysol, I'm bringing chlorox wipes... and if it doenst help, it made me feel better!! :lmao:

MY LORD: Everyone is SCARING ME TO DEATH with all this talk of germs, and stripping of beds, and coffee pots and Dateline and clorox wipes, and lysol and remotes in plastic bags.... :scared1:

I feel like I am OUT OF THE LOOP. :sad2:

To be completely honest I have stayed at WDW many many years as well as traveled across the country, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, stops in Colorado, Arizona, back again to NYC and Virginia Beach and climbed Pikes Peak and have never ever done any of this at all... :sad2: AND my family or myself has NEVER EVER gotten sick

The MOST I have ever done is use PURELL after visiting a restroom where I felt the washing of my hands in that particular facility was not enough!!

YOU GUYS ARE ALL SCARING ME....dodo..dodo.. :scared1:

TO THE OP: Is there any chance at all before you leave for WDW, you could possibly get your little one to take a shower!! I would find standing in a Resort tub and showering him/her than going full steam ahead with a ton of clorox wipes and having the child then SIT, is not safe (clorox..ugh)!! I would try to see if before he/she goes to "see Mickey" you could work ever so gently with the child to try, just try showering....have him stand beyond the water and you holding his hand kinda like he was going thru a sprinkler...JUST A THOUGHT...might be safer for many reasons trying this option...

I definitely second this! After speaking with our Doctor and Specialists,
we're convinced that regularly using anything treated antibacterially
is not a good thing - it just forces the "bad guys" to strengthen themselves.
We don't use antibacterial wipes, gel or soaps unless it's the only
thing available, but it's getting harder & harder to find stuff that isn't treated.

I absolutely agree that WDW resorts are cleaner than most,
but everyone has an 'off' day occasionally, including mousekeepers :) .

edited to correct spelling & my mouse/house mistake!

I do believe this poster meant the alcohol - clear

like Purell http://www.pfizerch.com/brand.aspx?id=310

this has been proven scientifically to kill germs - but you are correct that the anti-bacterial soap is giving germs a boon!

That's what I meant!!

I can find the hand non anti bacterial stuff at Sam's club ONLY - sometimes I just use Dawn dishwashing detergent!! I try very hard to stay away from anything labeled "anti bacterial" for these reasons!!

However, the Purell and any other "alcohol" based gels - usually clear, are not in this category!!

Yep, you're correct.

Oh, BJ's clubs carry their own brand & Purell brand packs of
NON Antibacterial gels, and I've also bought the store brand at Target.

Here it is>>

What the FDA advisory panel says about alcohol-based hand sanitizers

Wondering what all the recent news coverage about antiseptic and antibacterial products means to you? The Washington Post reported in a recent edition that while advisors to the Food and Drug Administration have expressed concern about the effectiveness of certain antibacterial products and possible links to an increase in antibiotic resistance:

"Such concerns, the advisory panel said, do not apply to alcohol-based hand sanitizers because they evaporate. Alcohol-based cleaners, which have been installed in many hospitals and day care centers, have proven useful in places where there is no easy access to water, the committee said."1

I've read so many threads about the rooms being so nasty that I'm starting to worry about giving my 5 year old a bath in one of the resort tubs. Does anyone else have this worry, and is there some kind of cleaning product for tubs that I can pack in my luggage and don't have to worry about spilling all over everything???
Could he just shower and not sit down in the tub? That is usually what works best for us. When my kids were babies, one of us would just get in the shower with them and hold them and get them cleaned up. But yes, Clorox wipes are a great idea too :)

Why does someone always seem to find the need to be rude on these boards? I guess someone hasn't had their dose of Disney magic today. My kids play in the sandbox, get dirty, have tons of fun - we just wash up afterwards! It only makes common sense. I would imagine that those who find that strange are the same people that use the bathroom and then leave without washing their hands, or have never been stuck home taking care of sick children.
Seems like there are a few people that love the drama of the heated threads with flaming. I don't get it either. Anyway, we are a family of hand washers, and antibacterial gel users and proud of it!

I have neve had an issue with dirty bath tubs in Disney resorts. There are probably more germs on the hand rails on most of the park rides. If you were that concerned just take some anti bacterial spray and give it a quick clean.

Why not just trow dem dare kids in the pool. They swim every day when we are there unless it rains and if it does rain, they can get washed down like that. :rotfl: We only take short trips but we don't do baths in the tub. Then again, my house only has a shower no tub so they learned early to take showers. I think the poster who said hold the kids and take them in the shower may be on to something for the little ones, for bigger ones, make it a game and give them a washcloth to cover their eyes if they need it. My daughter was about 4 when we moved into this house with no tub and I used to have her get in the shower and wet down her hair. Then she would lean out and I would reach in and shampoo her hair then help her rinse it. I did the same thing with the conditioner.
