Clean tubs?

I've read so many threads about the rooms being so nasty that I'm starting to worry about giving my 5 year old a bath in one of the resort tubs. Does anyone else have this worry, and is there some kind of cleaning product for tubs that I can pack in my luggage and don't have to worry about spilling all over everything???

Doesn't Dawn or one of those dish detergents have a ready use scrubber pad with detergent already built into it? You could always use that and then have housekeeping come in and do a quick rinse with their tub cleaner.

I found it. Thought I saw some last summer when I was visiting.

I agree with Clorox Wipes! My mom is a cancer patient, so we are very careful. We don't go to hotels without them. I wipe everything down. I also spray Microbial(sp) Febreeze. It's just habit now. I saw this Dateline Special on how filthy hotel rooms really are. They can look clean, but beneath the surface who knows. One thing I know about Disney, the hotels tend to be cleaner then most others outside the "world".

I have to agree with Clorox wipes, but make sure you rinse very well, as bleach will irritate your DS skin.

I don't know to what you are referring to, because the tubs in ALL of the resorts I have stayed at (at WDW) have seemed VERY clean! These are nice resorts.

Hotel rooms and especially the bathrooms tend to gross me out. I usually have my kids (4&6) stand in the bathtub and we just run the water out of the faucet, suds up quickly and then use a plastic cup to rinse off. I plan to spray the tub with Lysol first, let it sit for a while and then rinse before using. I'm sure it sounds crazy to some, but I plan to bring a can of Lysol and clorox wipes to give everything a quick re-clean after housekeeping.

I bring Clorox Wipes and a small can of Lysol. Until this thread, I thought I was the only one who did this! :thumbsup2

I always wash down the bathroom with clorox wipes (easy to carry , no spilling). The tub, toilet, sink, doorknobs & even the light switches.

I saw a good suggestions here on DIS last year...put the remote in a ziplock back...this way you don't touch it (never know where it's been! :scared:) & it still works.

I thought I was alone in being neurotic about hotel room germs but I guess not. :grouphug:

I have had the same experience - the tubs positively gleam! I only rinse them out in case there is a trace of the cleaning product.

I wipe everything down w/Clorox wipes or similar,
including fixtures, doorknobs & light switches.
Our son is allergic to antibiotics so I go the extra 'mile'.
But, even if he wasn't, I would never put his hiney down
into a tub that I hadn't cleaned first.
Just a quick wipe is all it takes, not a biggie in my book.

What do you do in the parks? Do you wear disposable gloves when you ride Splash Mountain. Those hand holds are so fragrant with mildew. MMMMMmmm. I guess your kids don't get to play in the sand or on the playground equipment, either.

Where are you reading about the rooms being nasty. I have stayed at WDW dozens of times in all levels of resorts have always had very clean rooms. In fact the rooms including the tubs have always been spotless. And believe me I check.

You posted right after me, so I'm not sure if your rude remark
was intended for myself or the OP?

In any case, I'll answer for myself:
As I stated, my DS is allergic to antibiotics so we have no
choice but to take certain measures, but they are not drastic.
He doesn't live in a 'bubble' but we make sure to use the
hand gel frequently.
And, when it comes to my child's privates (as well as my own),
I will always err on the side of caution & wipe down the tub
that his/our butts will be sitting in, and yes the toilet seat, too.
Takes me about one minute...

Peter11435- I have read ALOT of reports on the resorts board of disgusting rooms at Disney.

Luvthatduke- You're right, the post from Deb&Bill was rude.

Deb&Bill- I'm also not sure who you were replying to, but regardless of that, you have no right to judge someone for wanting to keep their kids healthy. I know of things that can be passed on to people from bathing in dirty tubs. What I was looking for was a solution for a very simple question, not a critical opinion from someone about how I raise my kid.

To everyone else- Thanks so much for the great advice! I'm glad to see others out there that enjoy cleanliness. :)

Why does someone always seem to find the need to be rude on these boards? I guess someone hasn't had their dose of Disney magic today. My kids play in the sandbox, get dirty, have tons of fun - we just wash up afterwards! It only makes common sense. I would imagine that those who find that strange are the same people that use the bathroom and then leave without washing their hands, or have never been stuck home taking care of sick children.

We always bring wipes and lysol. I also keep handcleaner and wipes in my purse. I know that my kids and I will be touching stuff and all day long and could still come into contact with something that will make us sick, but why take chances on things that you CAN control. I would hate to spend all that money on a trip, just to have everyone come down with something that could have been avoided. If we get sick, than at least I know I did everything I could to prevent it.

Thanks for the great idea Deb & Bill. I think I'll go on that invention show with some rubber gloves for amusement parks and sand boxes. Maybe I can get Disney to let me put some Mickey faces on them and I'll be a millionaire! :rotfl2:

I agree that WDW rooms are the cleanest I've stayed in in general. I've started bringing a can of lysol and just spraying lightswitches, etc in rooms. I do this at home sometimes too.

It's a good point that no, I don't spray down the seats at splash mountain..Can you imagine?? :rotfl2: BUT, I do wash my hands before I eat anything after I've been on rides, whereas I might not wash my hands after I turn on a light in my room before I eat. I just like to disinfect things. I'm no clean freak, but it makes me feel better in the hotel room to just disinfect the things that a million people before me have touched.

Disney is one of the only hotels I've been in that I will give ds a bath, based on past experience.

Just my .02. :rolleyes1

While we are on the subject.....We always use wipes before we eat (how often do they change the serving spoons at buffets?) just think about it.
I use a paper towel to turn off the water after washing my hands, and for opening the bathroom door. :p

Well, I have to admit that I'm sort of leery about hotel bathrooms, remotes, light swithches, etc. I've seen those Dateline and 20/20 specials! I don't bathe (showers only) or lay on the bedspreads. I wish I was like my DH (who thinks I'm crazy!) and lay on the made beds or walk barefoot around the room without a second thought. Maybe I'll try those Clorox wipes or Lysol when we go in May. But having said that, Deb does have a point. I'll never forget first trip about 15 years ago when DD was 7 yrs old. At the time she had this bad habit of always having her fingers in or near her mouth. I kept telling her to stop, but it went on the whole trip. Well, on our last morning we had breakfast and then started out on our 12 hr drive home. DD said she didn't feel well, and sure enough, she had a stomach virus. It made for an unforgettable ride home! No one else in our family got it, so I know how she picked it up. I'm sure there are alot more germs in the parks than the hotel rooms. Back to Deb, I actually thought she was just being funny - looking at the irony of the situation, not being rude. People sometimes take things too seriously! Let's not be so defensive! Sorry this is so long (for those of you still reading!)

I am totally with you guys on the clorox wipes! The last 2 trips we brought some Disney "magic" home with us! It was horrible and seemed to last forever! We try to be dilligent with handwashing but kids touch everything and one of my ds sucks his thumb so everything he touches makes its way to his mouth :sad2: That being said we will be one of those psycho families using antbacterial wipes after every ride  (or as much as we can!) and we will be wiping down the room- light switches, the chair arms, tub, etc. Oh and I will totally be using a ziplock bag for that remote! :crazy2:
