Clay Aiken scandal?

Thought things have been awfully quiet concerning him. Just mentioned to my dd how except for Kelly Clarkson, really nothing big from the other idol winners. Besides I really don't care for Aiken at all. I think he became really full of himself and got caught up in his own little PR machine. And after the awful thing he did to the choir members last year at my dd'd former high school, where they sang back up for him at a concert in the Philly area, well to me he is just another decent singer. There are just another hundred like him. But I suppose with idols investment here, they must be in over drive for damage control. It is ashame because it is no one's business who he does the deed with.

Clay Aiken's gay??? NO! What are you going to say next? Bill Clinton lies? Paris Hilton is a tramp?

You have it all wrong, Clinton is the tramp!

Sadly it will make a difference to a lot of his target demographic.

Never hurt Barry, can't see it hurting Clay.

This whole thing reminds me of an episode we had at my middle school last week. A young man, who is not especially known for his good behavior, started spreading a rumor that this young lady (who is known for her good reputation) would do favors for guys if they paid her $5.

Even knowing this guys reputation for bullying/lying, people still believed him. Why is that when we hear one person make a statement, we immediately give it it credibility?

Whether it was a man or a woman who made this claim, we should keep in mind that it's ONE person saying this.

"....but they love him.
Breaks a new heart every day.
He's a tramp. They adore him.
And I only hope he'll stay that way."

:rotfl2:

It was the first thing that popped into my head.

Wow...if this is all about the "free publicity"...where's the CD? What is it that he needs to promote? NOTHING...the man doesn't have to promote a single solitary thing. His fans are insanely loyal to him. He announces he's having a concert and his fans flock to the box office. His concerts are all nearly sold-out...every time...it makes no difference to his fans what his sexuality is.

So please, enlighten us...who's forgetting about him? And what is he promoting?

I adore the man's voice...I adore what he does for special needs children...I adore him. He's a truly gifted person...why do people insist on beating the man down?? If you don't like him...don't listen to him...ignore him...

Sorry...climbing down off of my soapbox now...

You just don't hear as much about the guy in the media, anymore. Sorry, but other AI people have stepped in to share his spotlight.

If the guy isn't gay (which would be a bit surprising), he should just ignore the comments. If he is gay, he should take this oppurtunity at this, a downward trend in his career, to come out and admit his sexual preference. Not only would it help his career at this point, he could come clean and be himself.

I never said I didn't like Clay Aiken; I truly don't follow any stars, bands, or singers and haven't since I graduated from college. I'm sure Clay Aiken is a really nice guy, but isn't it a little silly for a married woman adopting a child to be so obsessed with a singer?

First instinct after reading that was to walk away. But the second instinct won out. WTH? Because I defend Clay and state the truth about his fans, I am suddenly obsessed with him? Have you ever seen some of his fans? Following him from city to city for concert after concert...I have been to a whopping 3 concerts, I have his CD, and I follow his career. This is what makes me obsessed? Alrighty then.

Yes, I am married to the most amazingly wonderful man in the universe. Yes, I am adopting a beautiful little girl from China. And yes, I adore Clay Aiken. I am far from obsessed...I just get sick of people attacking him...especially those who don't know anything about him other than the negativity presented by the media.

I think you are a little too old to be so "into" Clay Aiken, don't you? Am I the only person who has ever suggested this to you?

I don’t understand this at all. Adults can’t enjoy a particular singer? I am 26, and I enjoy Clay’s music. My mom does as well, and she’s 56. Does it make someone immature to enjoy a particular artist?

conan o'brien had a good line about this:

"'One of the tabloids has published an interview with a gay man who says he slept with Clay Aiken after meeting him online. The man says, "I knew Clay Aiken was gay when we met online because his screen name was 'Clay Aiken.'" :teeth:

that aiken guy is freaky, he's like the new barry manilow.

The pain of denying your real self?? How about the adult maturity to be and to do what's right. If the rumors about Clay are true, I hope he gets good counseling and changes his gay lifestyle choice.

Wow, I always thought that I was born hetro, I didn't realize I had a choice. It's amazing to me that people choose to be gay. Imagine how boring their life must be that they choose to be discriminated against, fear losing their job, fear losing their family, fear being out in public with their partner, risk being called every terrible name in the book. And all along, this is simply a choice....hmmm, you learn something new every day. :furious:

What a ridiculous statement. Simple minds live in simple worlds....usually their own.

OMG! What's the deal with the personal attack? :confused3

Should we all email you a list of the singers/actors that we admire along with our ages so you can approve them?

:sad2:

Exactly! I happen to love that we have a performer that I don't have to crinch when I listen to the lyrics. One that uses his "fame" for good uses. How sad that one must live within their stereotypical little world. They miss so much.

Sweet. So we're a little old (I'm 25) to enjoy Clay Aiken, but never too old for Disney World.

Clay fans, I think we can have a more pleasant discussion about our enjoyment of music at another thread.

I can understand someone's need to "come out". But as for "outing" someone, I see that occurring often from the "militant" homosexuals, outing someone who has not publicly tried to make their sexuality an issue or even has tried to hide it, and that I don't get. If someone wants to keep their private life private or even a secret, that's their perogative.

Coming out is adifficult concept to understand...when you never have to do it.

When we come out , we dont say "look , I am having sex with a nother man" because being gay is not only about having sex , just like being heterosexual is not just about the sex , but about how you choose to be romanticaly involved with someone.

Coming out is important for many reasons , like making sure your parents know not to expect grand childreen from you. Your famiily has already most of your life planned for you: a mother will aready imagine her daughter's wedding , a father will alredy be thinking about the first boy who will take his daughter out... When you are gay , you shatter a lot of expectation from your family ( or you can decide to lie for the rest of your life).

And coming out is most of the time as simple as , whenb you are at work , when asked about your wife , to simply answer that you have a boyfriend.

Now a days , in certain countries , comming out is a political statement as well. Imagine you live in Egypt and you come out: you do it by putting your life on the line. In some states of the USA , you can still discriminate against a gay person in the job sector or for lodging. Just in Massachuset last week , somebody opend fire in a gay bar. And the USA has just sided with Iran, Zimbabwe and other repressive governments to exclude two gay rights groups from membership on a United Nations panel. So , yess coming out is political as well

Wow. I didn't realize you should stop being a fan of someone and their music when you reach a certain age. I think Clay has a wonderful voice, and although I don't really care for his style of music, I applaud everyone's enthusiasm for whoever rocks their band, no matter how old they are! Being told you are "too old" to be a fan is just ridiculous. Music keeps you young, imho. :rockband:

After having the chance to leave the computer for a bit and calm myself down, I've decided on two things:

I don't care what you think.

I don't have to justify my likes/dislikes to you.

Have a nice day! :)
