Class Rings - my son doesn't want one!

My DD didn't want to get one either. Kind of glad saved me some major money~had no idea they cost as much as they do

I never wanted one. Waste of money. I don't regret my decision. I may get one from my uni, but, that's a slim 'maybe'.

That is too funny! My ring isn't listed, but hey, I lost it over 20 years ago. LOL

I did, however, recognize about ten of the schools on the list. Guess a lot of people in IL lose their class rings!

I bet most people, over a certain age, say 40, don't know where there high school ring is right now -- my was lost on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland.

My 24 year old DD has hers on her finger. My 31 year old DD, who knows?

I know this is :offtopic: but I just wanted to let you know that clip was from the Office episode that came on after the Superbowl. Dwight was doing a "fire drill" :lmao: If you go to nbc.com you can watch all of their episodes (including that one).

Thanks! NOw I know what I'll be doing while at work tomorrow. :lmao:

I never wanted a traditional class ring either. They're fugly! I had a custom signet ring made instead.

I DID get a class ring and I wish I hadn't. What a waste of money. You wear it for senior year and then as soon as college starts -off it comes. Never to be seen/worn again.

I loved my class ring. Then a few years ago, I lost it :rolleyes1 Pretty sure it's gone for good because I moved and it didn't turn up. Don't tell my parents! :scared:

Slightly OT, but my parents (well, my mom) would only pay for the yearbook our senior year. That is one expensive yearbook though. WOW!!

$100 is nothing. In my area, they were $100 20 YEARS AGO. Yes I paid $100 for a yearbook back in 1988.

I would imagine they are closer to $200 now.

Never got one for High School.

Never wore the one my mom got me for UCLA.

And also around here, you order them in your sophomore year so you get two years of wear out of it.

I bought one. With my own money from two part-time jobs. I wore it for a while (at least the two years and another year or so after that). Since I didn't go to college right away after high school, I wore it to my jobs.

I still have it.

I got one and never wore it. I was such a follower back then, I got it because "everyone else was", what a waste of money. Oh well.

I'm 23 and I still wear my class ring and my letterman jacket. I got them both my sophomore year. My parents were kind of mad that I dropped out after my sophomore year and homeschooled myself and therefore did not graduate from the school that my ring and letterman jacket came from, and I graduated in 2003 instead of 2004 like my ring says, but eh. I still wear them. The letterman jacket is warm and still fits. I wish that I had gotten a different style of class ring (I got the smaller, ladies cut version of the standard ring), but I still wear it anyway.

I always thought my high school and the ring people were in cahoots. Our junior dance was called (and still is called) "Ring Dance" and is where they present each student with their class ring. I guess you would feel pretty left out if you didn't purchase a ring considering it's a good hour and a half of the dance. I spent $100 on my ring but that was the cheapest one you could get. Even the ones with the genuine stones, 14k gold, and engraving from jostens are gawdy, of course, IMHO.

My parents also bought my brother and I a yearbook every year K-12. Who knows, I may look at them 20-30 years from now.

I got my high school ring during my sophomore year, and wore it every day from the time I got it until the day I got my college ring during my junior year of college.

I wore my college ring daily until I lost it about 5 or 6 years after I graduated. But when we moved a year or two later, I found it!

I still wear them both occasionally.

As to yearbooks, at my high school, yearbooks were ONLY for seniors, and your class dues and class fundraising thru high school paid for them, so everyone got one without having to pay $$ for it.

I never got a class ring and neither did my sisters. We just weren't interested. I did get a letter jacket though since I played volleyball/soccer. Atleast I wore that.

Probably already been said but if he goes to college - especially away to college - he won't wear it more than a few weeks and he'll never put it on again. Waste of money IMO.

I wanted a class ring (graduated in 1977), I got a class ring, I couldn't tell you where it is, and I haven't seen it in decaded much less worn it. I think it's back in my wife's jewelry box, but obviously it's not an important keepsake.

Kudos to your son for bucking the norm, ignoring the promotions at school, and not caving to the opinions of friends and family.

I wish my 3 kids would have been so stubborn. All 3 have them, I doubt any of them know where they are.
