I was probably too critical of the Photopass Photographer in the last chapter, and I should have been more grateful for the veritable photo session he gave us, so let me correct that now...'thank you' Mr. Photopass Photographer! You took so many pictures and gave us so many poses to choose from that we felt like celebrities.
And what a coincidence, because just after we finished our photo shoot we walked a few steps and I saw a person I recognized from TV.
I nudged Judy and said, "It's John Stamos!"
"Who?", she said.
"You know...Uncle so-and-so from 'Full House', and Blackie from 'General Hospital', and who knows what else."
"Oh yeah, you’re right." She said. (As you can see, living with me all of these years, Judy is only mildly impressed by other celebrities.)
I have to say that I probably would've noticed him anyway, but one thing that drew my attention was the Disney cast member that was guiding them. They're not very inconspicuous that way. Anyway, we were so close, and I didn't know if I could discretely take a picture, but I knew that I
had to get a picture for my trip report, that was an absolute must.
So much for being discrete...he caught me. Then, he made the coolest rockstar move ever: he flashed me a peace sign. It conveyed so much. Like:
"Dude, I see you, seeing me. Thanks for keeping your distance."
And...
"You
are keeping your distance, right?"
Then Judy said to me, "Do you want your picture with him?", and oh that was a tough one. In the second that I thought it over, I went back and forth several times.
I thought:
"Oh, how great would that be for the trip report?!!"
"But he's with his family -- young girls, his mother (I assume) in a wheelchair."
"But oh, how great would that be for the trip report?!!"
"There's that Disney cast member with a walkie-talkie, ready to call Security at a moment’s notice."
"But do you realize how awesome it would be to put a picture of me with Uncle what's-his-name in my trip report?!"
And finally, the thought that decided it for me was, "The poor guy is on
vacation, having
family time. Let him enjoy it."
I decided to let my paparazzi-style picture be the one I'd use in the trip report. No shot of me and my brush with a celebrity.
Unfortunately for John, some other people saw me taking a picture of him and I think I drew some additional attention to him. They apparently weren't as concerned for his privacy as I was.
But hey, she's obviously his fan, in every sense of the word!
He certainly doesn't look like he minded taking a picture with them, and that kind of made me feel like a schmuck for not asking myself, but I still think it was the right thing to do.
Celebrity-sighting over, onward we went. To China. Look at the kid trying on a mask on the right side of this picture.
We just looked around in the gift shop at the end of the street and then moved on.
The mariachi band was out as we went through Mexico.
We quickly went through these countries (as quickly as we could) because we had one attraction on Gram's "must do" list: Journey into Imagination. I know what you're thinking -- "Journey into Unimagination? Seriously?" Yes, seriously.
<cue flashback music>
Waaay back, over Christmas 1983, we took a family trip to WDW and this was my mom's favorite attraction. It was closed for renovations in 2001, the last time she was here, so we definitely had to get her there this time. It was so hot out though, walking through those last couple of countries in the World Showcase, and then into Future World. I wanted to hurry in order to get out of the heat sooner, but my troops could only go so fast. We eventually made it, (the A/C felt wonderful!) and we had almost no wait for the ride.
(Oh, you should've stopped playing that funky flashback music in your head about halfway through that last paragraph. I hope you did.)
I kept waiting for a good picture opportunity to present itself, but this is basically it. For all you Monty Python fans!
From there, we went over to Club Cool, the best place to get some free (free, I tell ya!) refreshment and of course -- an opportunity to foist the deliciousness of Beverly upon a couple of unsuspecting victims.
Poppy, checking out the offerings.
Gram tries a non-Beverly taste.
Beverly dispensed, here we go.
Mmm-hmm.
Whattaya think?
No reaction really. I was so bummed.
We decided to head to Living with the Land next, so we left Club Cool through the doors on that side of the building. Then I found a hallway that I'd never really noticed before and since it was so hot out we decided to take it in order to stay in air conditioning for as long as possible. Here's a shot back toward the doors that we entered.
Looking ahead, it ends where you come out from the Epcot Character Spot.
I filed that away for future reference, to use that hallway in times when it's raining or super-hot, like today was.
