When did peacefully protesting in front of the WH now subject one to arrest?

Cindy Sheehan maybe annoying, but I do believe we still have the right of assembly and the right to redress our government..........or has that all changed on planet Bush?

according to CNN there were certain areas they were supposed to be in and everyone knew where those areas were. They were also given 3 warnings that they needed to go back to the pre-arranged areas and after the 3rd warning they were arrested.

When one does not obey the lawful orders of the DC police to move along. Maybe you missed this part of the story:

Lawful? What the DC police said to the nation is they'll decide how, when, where, and why you'll protest.

I don't recall anything along those lines in the Constitution.

But she does not have the right to sit on that stetch of side walk. People are not allowed to remain statioary in that area. Its a security risk. All she had to do was keep moving back and forth along the street and she would have been fine. Sounds like she broke the law deliberately and deserved to be arrested.

I find what she has to say irresponsible and dishonerable, but despite the fact the she annoys the heck out of me, I have no problem with her speaking up. She has that right and no one should stop her from excercising it. She does not have the right to break the law in the process however.

Everything can be classified a security risk when the reality is no one wants any protests in and around Bush. He pulled the same crap in Texas.

No. They said she had to keep moving, thats all. You are not allowed to sit on that stretch of sidewalk. No one said she couldn't protest, only that she couldn't b;ock the sidewalk and break the law.

:rotfl2: There are hundreds, maybe thousands of laws that are not in the Constitution, but that are still the law of the land. Break some and you get a fine; break others and you get arrested. Just because it's not in the Constitution that you can't park your posterior in front of the White House doesn't mean it's not a valid law. :rolleyes2:

Eh, I don't blame her. I think I'd act the same way if I had a son die in a war that we had no business fighting.

I agree.

So you think that the the war is a non-story as well I guess. What anti war protest do is keep the war at the fore front of the news . The president as refuse to ask the American ( civil americans , not the one in the aemy abbviously) to make any kind of sacrifice for this war , going as far as granting tax cut , in a time of war. I can still hear my grand-parents talking about the sacrifices they had to make during the war, but not this one , no ! As long as the American public does not have to make sacrifice , and still watch tv all they want , and drive where they want , this president had no problem selling his war.

This " crazy" women manage to turn her grief into something positive and at least 100 000 people followed her in Washigton , and many more in other cities in the USA. The pro-war had at least ... 400 people in DC on sunday.

So where were all the pro-war ? Is this war as close to there heart that it is to Cindy ?

Pre-arranged areas? They got away with that crap during the Republican convention. What's next pre-arranged issues or pre-arranged slogans?

And by any chance are those areas far from the ears and eyes of Bush? This is just another way to keep the "president in the bubble" in the bubble.

Americans have a right to protest even when it's inconvenient for the Bush WH.

What's all this about ordained protesting areas or whatever? Why are there 'certain areas' that they have to keep to? I'd like to hear about that minus the usual 'security risk' claptrap.

Sure, she's a bit of a nut, but geez, being a protestor is like being a second class citizen in this uptight bloody country.

Maybe I need to explain the distinction between a law that isn't in the Constitution and a law that violates the Constution and one's Constitutional rights? There is a difference, yanno.

Fact is protest has always been in front of the WH, but this Bush WH is doing the same thing they did in Texas.

But, that's all right to some. Just remember, today it Mrs. Sheehan's rights and tomorrow, it may be your rights. Political winds change.

Then please do rush to Washington and help Ms. Sheehan file a lawsuit in the District Court to have this incredibly unconstitutional law overturned immediately. Heaven knows, our right to free speech is in terrible danger of being completely and utterly revoked by this staged media event. :rotfl:

If this law is so very threatening to our way of life then why has no one stepped up to the plate to have it overturned? Could it be that the law is not unconstitutional at all, except in the minds of those who have allowed their hatred for the current administration to overwhelm their thinking?

My right to protest trumps Presidential protection? :confused3

First of all...I can't speak for everyone - but I'd like to think of myself as "pro -victory". I don't know anyone who really likes war. And those that you like to call "pro-war" do have lives & jobs - they aren't professional protestors like Cindy and code pink, and the rest of thier ilk.

When the DNC was in town, the had a little pen set up for protesters. They weren't allowed anywhere near the site of the convention and they were stuck in the pen like animals.

Politicians of every type don't want protesters near them - both for selfish and security reasons. Period. So they create places that are off-limits and arrest people who cross into them.

Too bad. There are tons of laws I'd like to break, but don't.

Exactly, its rarely productive, responsible people who can afford to take weeks off from work to follow the latest "anti American protest". I believe it is an anti American protest because she would be very happy if the USA declared "defeat" and packed and went home. That's a great way to honor her son.

In the picture I saw she was obviously not too upset about being arrested because she has a HUGE grin on her face.

I don't see how being anti-war is anti-American.

Actually, I think by trying to save the lives of all the innocent soldiers, that's pretty pro-American. :confused3
