Christmas Shopping 2010

For the ds9: I have a 16 yr old son that is into airsofting and military "stuf". He shops at airsoftgi for the airsoft stuff, 1800nametape.com for patches, bdu.com for camo gear, tactical.com for random stuff and militaryboots.com for fabulous quality boots. The last three, I believe are related. Last year I got him a keychain with his blood type on it from somewhere and a bunch of patches from 1800nametape. This year he wanted some special (expensive) military grade sunglasses, a couple t-shirts from tactical.com that I frankly didn't find humorous, and a canteen. I wash a couple loads of camo print clothes each week that they boys wear airsofting out at our farm, and they hold up to everything - except being outgrown. The quality is impressive for the price. I'm pretty much a pacifist but I have to say, I'm very impressed with the price and quality of the military clothing, outerwear and boots. Pretty much puts Carhartt to shame for durable clothes for farming.

Hope that helps!

So glad I found this forum.

This year is the first year I'm shopping for DBF's 4 kids. I'm having trouble figuring out what exactly to get them though. Any suggestions?

Tim's DS9
He loves army type of stuff and hopes to join the military one day
He also is HUGE on outdoors etc. and loves playing football (his team is undefeated! :cool1:)

Tim's DD8
She has a sensory disorder, but loves the color orange.
I think she's the hardest for me. My older sister is autistic, so I know what type of things she would like, but I'm not sure what exactly will be the best route to go. I know she loves to read, but I don't want to get her just books, ya know?

Tim's DD6
she is the fashionista girly-girl type. LOVES pink. I think she'll be semi-easy? But then there is the issue with her and older sister fighting over gifts...

Tim's DS3
Pretty much have him figured out, lol. He loves Toy Story and Thomas the Tank Engine.

Something I do with kids on my list (always did with my little sister) is I get a book as one of their gifts. Which I did already for them. I just want to get them more than a book.

Any suggestions?

I haven't gotten much done for shopping this week.

I'm really stuck on my mom. She is in the process of downsizing and planning to move to a condo in the spring, so she doesn't need more "stuff". I just really don't know what to do for her.

Well, I managed to buy a couple things this week. Got DD9 the new Tinkerbell DVD. Didn't get Beauty and the Beast. I wasn't sure - is it only out in the Blu Ray/DVD combo pack? I should have used the TRUS coupon deal!
I also got them a couple packs of silly bands for their stockings.

DD9 told me that she wants a volleyball! (She's just learning the game and I coach a 5th and 6th grade team). So I have a coupon for Sports Authority and think I'll get her one and some knee pads. She also told me she wants legos! This kid hardly EVER played with the legos/duplos we had and have gotten rid of! Now at the daycare they have been playing with them again! Not sure I want to go down that route!

northriver - could you put together a little gift basket with some favorite food items for your mom? maybe a gift card to a salon or grocery store. I am thinking of things more to use than to "own" for my parents as well. Magazine subscription?

Officially done with my son's birthday now!

His birthday is Dec 9, so we shop for both holidays at the same time, and figure out presents as we go.

His big birthday gift we just got him is a DigiTech RP250 Multi Effect Pedal for his electric guitar. He really wanted one, and we got a great deal!

Well...officially did nothing in the shopping dept this weekend....have been looking at the refurbed Macs for my ds14 and it ain't looking too good:sad2:
Not sure what the deal is...but the ones I have found are not much less than a brand new one!!!!!! :confused3
So...he may be very upset and disappointed come Christmas time. I asked him again this weekend and he said..the new Ipod and the mac..for Christmas AND bday!!!! I told him he needs to really try to expand that--new clothes, something!! He said, nah..that's it...I can't think of ANYTHING!!! So...if that's the case, I may talk to dh about giving him $$$ to put in his saving acct. Not sure what else to do...don't want to spend $$ on junk he doesn't want just to have a gift, but dont' want him to have NOTHING either...WOW..what a pickle!!! Unless,..we do the Ipod for Christmas and just Cash for his bday...maybe a GC for some clothes...AAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH I feel just like little Charlie Brown!

I remember in my day that Apple had student pricing for Macs at College bookstores and through the schools. Now, it has been a LONG time, but have you checked into that avenue? Ask around at his school about any programs that might exist for discounts.

Good Luck!

Jumping on the Christmas shopping bandwagon :cool1:

BTW...I'm Holly, married to Tim and we have DD4 Avery. Tim also has two boys, Adam 14 & Colin 9. We have a pretty big, dysfunctional family so we have lots of sets of parents to buy for. We also have 5 nephews and 1 (soon to be two :lovestruc ) nieces to buy for.

This is what we have so far:

For DD:
One little stocking stuffer Ariel ring and stick on earring set ($1)
Precious Moments Sleeping Beauty w/Prince (on clearance at American Greetings) ($35)

For one Star Wars crazy nephew:
Star Wars 3D book ($15)

For Niece 9:
Aeropostle shirt bought on clearance at outlet store ($9)

It's not much but its a start. For my DSS14 he'll be getting a one year subscription on XBox online or whatever it's called plus his XBox magazine and maybe a game or Itunes card or something else he asks for. Not a clue for DSS9...he's so hard to buy for. Thinking of getting DD4 a Loving Family Dollhouse and hope to get a good deal closer to Christmas. Santa will be bringing her a dress up box too. I'm going to hit the stores for Halloween costumes soon and add some shoes and crowns and such. She loves to play dress up so much. I get my quarterly bonus from work on Nov 19 so we will start really shopping then.

I should not have read this thread. I thought I was pretty much done shopping for my girls....but now I know my 4 year old would just love those Teacup Pigs and the Teeny Little Families.

I haven't checked in on this thread in a few weeks. We've been thinking "Halloween" and doing Haunted Houses and Hayrides. I started my shopping back in september when I bought almost all of our Squinkies and Zoobles stuff. I just need the Zoobles treehouse and under the sea set.

My 3 girls are asking for American Girl dolls. We are ordering 1 next week and buying the other two when we make our Natick Mall trip and visit the AG Store on November 18th.

I really need to start on my step son who is 14. He really doesn't want anything besides gift cards and money. BUT.... That's no fun on Christmas morning. I've been telling aunts uncles and grandparents that's what he wants but I'm working on under the tree gifts. I know i'm going to get him a pair of Jeans and a few shirts from Hollister (which is all he wants to wear lately)
Hollister Cologne
A baseball cap from Hollister
A wallet
New PJs pants
Shampoo and body spray
He usually has certain video games on his list, but there are none yet this year. We have the PS3 and the Wii, so i'm sure at least 1 game will make it to the list by Christmas.
My dh just bought him and my dd11 their own laptops 2 months ago (I thought that would be Christmas presents, but he can't wait for anything ;)) So, there really isn't any BIG gift that he's hoping for.

My girls are much easier, they are lured in by everything on all of these commercials that have started.
We need for the girls:
Barbie Glitter
Barbie mermaid
More zhu zhu pets
American Girl craft sets from Michaels
Wow Wee Fin Fins
AG PJS for their new dolls
Moxie dolls Snow
pillow pets

Can anyone help me figure this out? There's a toy that my niece wants for Christmas, and my mother can't remember the name. She said e there are fish that go around and round. You put water in it, and there are 4 different kinds. Any ideas?

I've seen them at Target but I don't know the name. They are in the aisle with the squinkies, LPS and zoobles.

I have been doing a ton of shopping but its mostly for me :lmao: I couldn't resist, the deals were great but I'm feeling guilty so I think I'll put some stuff away and have it be my presents from the kids ;)
I did grab more legos for my dses and even though I thought I was done will dd I got her a few things from Abercrombie. She wanted stuff for back to school but we had already spent her budget so I told her she'd have to wait till Christmas, but I honestly forgot. Anyway, I found a code for the kid's site and she is still able to fit in the XL so I grabed a hoodie and a couple shirts.

I'm thinking of getting my dh a Northface jacket but I need to find thr right one at a decent price. There are tons of sales but I need one that he can wear in the cold and wind (northeast winters) but isn't at all bulky. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate your opinions :)
I'm also planning on getting him some gym mats from his martial arts club when they have their sale but there's no way I can hide those so he'll get them early. I'll just throw little things under the tree like itunes cards and candy and he'll be set.

Sounds like a Fin Fin to me. My dd and niece both want them!

I was so happy that all the stuff I ordered from TRU would be in this week while my older 2 girls are in school. Little did I remember that they have Thursday AND Friday off of school. I should be getting quite a few packages those days. I am so aggravated. The gifts are for my youngest, but we told the girls that our present this year is Disney and that we won't be getting them any gifts, they will just get a few from Santa.

Now how in the world and I going to explain a whole bunch of deliveries? :confused3

I guess I can't complain to much, for being a problem its not to bad of a problem to have huh! :) This is probably be the 9 year olds last year of even pretending to believe and I want to keep up the charade as long as possible! Gotta love Santa!

My DD(11) still believes, I think. I know my DS(9-he'll be 10 in Jan) still believes-he wants to watch Santa's tracking on Norad again this year. I think my DD(7-she'll be 8 in Jan) will be the one to figure it out and tell her siblings. DD(11) is in middle school this year so maybe this will be the year she figures it out. I bought her some clothes at Justice today (she wasn't with me) and thought about putting one T-shirt away for Christmas but it was Justice branded so I decided I better give it to her now or that might create some questions.

Last year I ordered her a cabinet for her American Girl Dolls. It came in a huge box. My DH is a stay at home dad so I told him when it was coming and told him he had to put it away. I came home from work one day and it was sitting in the living room for all to see. I had to bug him for weeks to move it to the basement. I was sure DD would notice at Christmas that her cabinet was the same size/shape as the box but she never said anything.

I don't know about my DD11 either (believes or not). I told her that if she gets an ITouch, she won't be getting much else, maybe a couple other things. She was seriously dumbfounded and got tears in her eyes. I asked her what was wrong and she asked "Why won't I get many presents from Santa?" I said the ITouch is expensive and she went in her room. Then I was dumbfounded.......could she still really believe?

Here's what I've done so far.

1st off Santa in our house doesn't wrap. That the way my Mom did it-I was one of 6 and it has worked well for us.

I am going to have a few gifts for all 3 kids-extra nintendo wii remotes-we only have 1 and a few wii games-SIL gave it to us last year and we only have 3 games. And a few movies.

DD(11)-she's an artist, loves being outside, loves Pooh, 1st year middle school
Purchased:
Areopostale long sleeve T
Areopostale perfume
Patriots long sleeve T
Red Sox short sleeve T
socks
Japanese erasers
hair ties
plastic Pooh pook a looz toy purchased at Walmart to go with her plush one we got at WDW

To be purchased:
Nintendo DSiXL -anyone have any thoughts on XL vs "regular" DSi? She has a Nintendo DS lite but the tracking is so bad that she can't really use it-we've tried calibrating it but it hasn't worked. I've struggled with deciding to get this for her as other DD & DS will be jelous but their Nintendo DS lites are working fine. I really don't want to go the ipod or netbook route for her yet.

Thought about getting her fleece sheets as I think she would love them but I think she might have enough.

DS(soon to be 10)-he's my little old man-a book worm-but only non fiction-he's my Disney fanatic-loves WDW history, enjoys Disney music (and 40's music :rotfl:), enjoys photography-movie making,
Purchased:
Apples to Apples Disney version

To be purchased:
night vision binoculars
Sherman Brothers DVD
Mater's Tall Tales DVD
Jeff Lange DVD-he does park videos-DS likes the old ones
knot book (he's a boy scout)

He really wants an RC Hellicopter with video camera but I'm not too sure about that. Thinking about hand held GPS but not sure on that either. Seems like he needs something else and then his birthday is 2 weeks after Christmas.

DD(soon to be 8)-loves dogs and other animals
Purchased:
about $100 worth of Schleich toys....a safari truck, some horses, dogs and a few animals to go with what she's got-she has the baby ostich so I got her an adult....
puzzle-100 aligators & 1 purse
Japanese erasers
Lego airplane-was thinking of saving this for her birthday

To be purchased
Wii Petz sports-this might go in her pile rather than group pile because I know she will love it so much

Thought about getting her the trailer for the truck but don't think it is worth $35. Seems like she needs something else too but have already spent a small fortune on those toys. I saw Squinkies in stock at Target today and thought about it but didn't buy any-I really just don't need those all over the house...

I usually buy each kid a small lego set for thier stockings and candy too. I usually buy each kid a pair of snow gloves. I make or buy them new PJ's that they get Christmas eve.

Thought about getting the younger 2 scooters but not sure winter is a good time for getting those.

I better hurry up and finish. I have to be done before surgery on 11/22.

Just found this thread-what a GREAT idea!!!:santa:

Ok here goes...I have 3 boys-14, 8, & 5 and a 6 year old neice that lives with us. Plus the usual assortment of family members. For my DS14 I have no idea what to get for him...he has an ipod touch, a laptop, cellphone, just got new furniture, etc. My DS8 loves legos, Star Wars, video games, and he still plays with toys so he'll be easy. DS5 likes a lot of the same things that DS8 likes, he'll be pretty easy too. DNeice likes barbies, stuffed animals, books, the usual little girl stuff. I was thinking about an AG doll for her since she doesn't have one yet. I have not started shopping yet, but I'll probably get a few thing in the next few weeks-have to figure something out for DH's bday in November and then Christmas-no clue on him-he is SO hard to shop for! We'll be at Disney the week of Thanksgiving so no Black Friday for me.

Did she usually get big gifts from both you & santa? My kids only get PJ's and a book from us. Everything else is from Santa. Maybe that is why my DD still believes. I really think she still believes. She was 8 before she figured out the characters at Disney weren't real-and her younger siblings NEVER believed they were real.

Good luck on your surgery! I hope you feel better soon! :flower3:
Thanks! It is "only" bunion surgery. My bunions were really interfering with my Disney touring so I had to get them fixed. I had the first one done 10 weeks ago today. It was sore while shopping today but not too bad for only 10 weeks out-could do Disney today. I'll have 5+ full months to recover between my Nov. surgery and my next trip to WDW in May. I could do some online shopping while recovering but I'm really hoping to be done before surgery.
