Christmas Movies...

We have to watch a totally obscure christmas special called Claymation Christmas. I recently found it on DVD on Amazon. Too cute!

I second that!!!

I LOVE Claymation Christmas!! My parents have it on tape (I'm pretty sure we taped it when it was on TV ages ago). Here we come a' waffleing...

I can't believe someone else knows what this is!!! I had to order my old VHS tape from some reseller somewhere (after we wore out our tape of the original show in 1991). I'm so excited that I can get it on DVD.

But our fave is the Carol of the Bells. And the walruses. But the camels are a close third!!!

Carol of the Bells is a hoot!! Love the goofy one. :)

OMIGOD! This is one of our favorites too. Those bells kill me EVERYTIME. "I lost mine" :happytv::lmao::rotfl::lmao::happytv:

When I was a kid, my mom taped all the Christmas shows onto one VHS tape.
Commercials and all. I watch it every single Christmas and I am 29 now. I even watch all the old commercials, there are some classics on there. Shredded Wheat, Zack the Lego Maniac, Toys R Us, Tonka trucks, Playskool dinosaurs....

Anyway, that tape includes:
Rudolph
Frosty
Mickey's Christmas Carol (there are some shorts before it and then an intro by Michael Eisner)
Muppets Family Christmas (this one is great!)
Claymation Christmas
Chimpmunks
Garfield Christmas
Charlie Brown Christmas
Smurfs Christmas
The Life and Times of Santa Claus
The Little Tree
and one about a mouse that broke a clock, can't think of the name, but Christmas almost didn't come.

That tape is still played every year and pretty much the only reason we still own a vcr.

Did anyone mention Ernest Saves Christmas? I don't know if I'd call it a classic, though!:rotfl2:
My faves are White Christmas, Christmas Vacation, and the original Miracle on 34th Street.
Nestor, the Long Eared Donkey- Spoiler alert! When I was about 4, I cried so hard when is mom died that I threw up. My dad asked me why I threw up and I told him. He said, "Who the h3ll is Nestor?!?" So, it's a joke in our household. Somebody bought it for me a few years ago, but I haven't dared watch it!

Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation are our favorites.

Another good one is SCROOGED...

I used to like one I think it was called "One Magic Christmas"?

with Mary Steen-something--does anyone remember this one?

I love all the movies mentioned, so far. But, I have to say, our modern day favorite is Elf. So funny and heartwarming.

Die Hard.

yeah its a CHRISTMAS movie!!

Does this remind anyone else of Joey on Friends? :rotfl:

My favorite Christmas movie is by far A christmas story. But it's saved strictly for Christmas Eve and Day so I can watch it with my dad. We can quote the whole things but watch it the whole time it's on. Love it.

I also love:
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (cartoon not the live action blasphemy)
Charlie Brown
Rudolph the red nosed reindeer (cheesy but I love it)
Miracle on 34th Street (the old one with Natalie Wood)

This year I"m adding Mickey's Christmas carol. It was a favorite of mine when I was small but I haven't seen it in forever. However, I've seen it in stores this year and plan on picking it up. My daughter, who LOVES MIckey, will really enjoy it too.

I haven't seen anyone mention one of my favorites yet, "The Christmas Box" starring Richard "John Boy Walton" Thomas and Annette O'Toole.

I love the little know Christmas movie "Nestor the Long Earred Donkey". I seriously believe that I am the only one to actually see this movie. No one ever seems to know it.

You are not alone. This was a classic in our house growing up. Cried everytime though, so sad.

My favorite is Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas. It's our Christmas Eve movie before the kids go to sleep, followed by It's a Wonderful Life after they are in bed.

I also love all of the animated movies, my favorite is Twas the Night Before Christmas with the mouse who breaks the town clock.

Twas the Night Before Christmas - one of my favorites :)

CLASSIC!!!

We watch it on VHS because we recorded it off tv (ya, I know, sooo illegal) but it's seriously the best!

I REALLY want this on DVD!!!!

"Carefull of the icy patch!";)

I was searching awhile ago for this and it doesn't look like this will ever get released on DVD with all the licensing between the Sesame Street characters the Jim Henson ones. Such a shame, because it is so good!

Star Wars! We always had to go to horrible relatives houses when I was little, so my dad and I would find a free tv and I think TNT? plays Star Wars all day on Christmas, so we would watch that.

Don't know if it has been mentioned yet but Lifetime Movie Network plays Christmas movies during the season. I love them all.

We watch a lot of Christmas movies, so here's my "absolute, have-to-watch every Christmas" movies (I warn you ... it's a long list :rolleyes1):

Love Actually (though we don't let DD watch this one for obvious reasons :lmao:)
Serendipity
The Family Stone
The Holiday
Little Women (1994 remake)
Meet Me in St. Louis (I know it's an all-year movie, but it's perfect for Christmas, if for nothing else "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas")
Die Hard -- only DH watches this one, though
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
A Christmas Story
Jack Frost
The Family Man
Charlie Brown Christmas
Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas
Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas
The Santa Clause
White Christmas
The Preacher's Wife
I'll Be Home For Christmas
Scrooged
Elf
Frosty the Snowman
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
It's a Wonderful Life
Miracle on 34th Street
Home Alone 1 & 2
Polar Express
Jingle All the Way
Mickey's Christmas Carol
Jingle All the Way

LOL!

I love how everyone just says "Home Alone 1 & 2"!!!!

:rotfl2:

Poor Home Alone 3...never stood a chance.. :sad2: lol

Another good one is SCROOGED...

I just watched that one last year. My mom ordered it from Amazon. That movie starred Mary Steenburgen (Ted Danson's) wife. She also played in the third "Back To The Future".

Has anyone mentioned "Olive, The Other Reindeer"? :worship: That one is so strange that I can't resist it. Kids love it, but adults get it on a whole other level. And the animation is hysterical. :lmao:

It was available a few years ago on DVD, but they cut a scene. We still have the original one we taped off of the TV in the 80s. I love the old commercials! OshKosh (b'gosh, b'gosh, b'gosh!), K-mart, He-man, etc.

Must watch (mostly for me and my sister, since DD is only 2):
Muppet Family Christmas
Muppet Christmas Carol ("Light the lamp, not the rat!")
Rudolph
Frosty
Cabbage Patch Christmas (I knew I'd be the only one to say that!)
