We are leaving in less than 24 hours for our big trip. I am thinking of bringing Christmas lights to string on our BWV and VWL balconies. How do people feel about this? Is it festive or annoying?
If we do bring them, do we need to bring an extension cord?
Thanks!

wdwendyd....I know I've read here about people putting decorations on their DVC balconies, including lights.

I don't recall any outside power outlet on the VWL balcony so I suppose you would need an extension cord.

And I can't imagine anyone finding the decorations to be anything other than festive....assuming they're in good taste and not including spotlights!

Have a wonderful trip....WL in its holiday glory will be a great place to visit!

How pretty! I absolutely love it when people decorate their balconies or even their front doors. I think as long as nails/staples aren't being pounded into the walls/doors/posts, I think it's great fun. Definitely festive! :p

I love doing this, and we plan on taking lights with us when we're at OKW for Christmas. The last time that we were there for the Holidays, I brought Mickey lights only to discover that they were indoor use only.:( I strung them in the windows.

I guess as long as it doesn't look like the Griswold's from National Lampoon's Christmas, it will be fine.

Have a wonderful trip!!:D

I would definately do it. We took our Mickey halloween flag once when we spent Halloween at the Poly and hung it off our balcony.

On our first trip home to BWV in December of 2000 we didn't think to bring any lights. No need as we got a Boardwalk view and our two balconies had lighted garland on them.

I think in that case if we were in an area that was already decorated I might not put them out.

I was planning on doing this next month during Christmas week at OKW, but alas I had to cancel our plans and our GV (boo hoo!) Someone mentioned getting clear stick-on clips and stringing lights with these on the underside of the railing edge. Apparently someone has done this in the past, and she said the clips are not noticeable when you take the lights down. Sounds like a good idea, if they are truly not noticed.

Both this year and last year we decorated our front doors for Halloween. The DS had a Halloween decoration kit with Mickey bats, ghosts, paper lanterns and paper pumpkins! This year I found removable double sided tape tabs designed for teachers to use in classrooms. It works great for the paper type decorations and leaves no residue when removed!
I too would hesitate using any type of decoration or fastener that would require extra Mousekeeping or Maintenance to put the unit back to "original" condition. After all, we all pay for upkeep out of our dues and I would want to make someone else pay for my decorations when they don't get to enjoy them! As for lights on the balconies, I brought lights, but after thinking about it, I decided to hang them in the room and not out on the balcony. It seemed that they would take away from the "look" or "theme" of the VWL and also intrude on others view of the outside.

Does anyone know if the doors are metal so we could use a magnetic hook to hang the decorations?

I do believe they are metal because they are supposed to be fire rated...
I like the light idea, I'll have to pick up a set or two tomorrow while I'm shopping at Winn Dixie :p

We have spent the last few Chrismas seasons @ OKW BWV and now BCV the lights and door decorations really made our DVC feel like home. Merry Christmas look forward to seeing your lights.

I just packed my lights in the car.we are driving down tomorrow for Tampa and will be at OKW on the 1st, we have put lights up the past two years, it's great. I always bring an extension cord there is an outlet at OKW, I don't know about the other resorts.

A few years ago, we were at OKW for Christmas. A neighbor had three wreaths with lights configured just like Mickey. °O° Personally I was impressed.

We've spent the first part of December at OKW almost every year since we joined. Instead of hanging lights on the balcony, where we can't see them, we decorate the island in the kitchen. We put garland and lights on it, and it looks great.

We're even to the point where we buy cheap lights and garland at Walmart, and leave it in the room rather than packing it home. We just leave a note on it that housekeeping can have it.

We'll be stringing up our lights at OKW on Saturday - woo hoo!! :)

For those of you not staying at OKW, I encourage you to ride over and visit our neighborhood. We're no Osborn's - but we still make it look really pretty! Seems like we get more and more lights every year!
