(Christmas) Lights, Decorations, Action…..A Post-Christmas PTR (update 12/22-page 42)

AW, Marv! My condolences, brother! I am sad that you will all really miss her, yet, as one who has an inheritance, I am so glad to know that all is well with her now, body and soul!

hey bud sadened that my first post on here is a sympathy one for you and your family stay strong during this time, and we will be here to help you out..thoughts and prayers your way.

read through the whole report and your plans so far sound good...like the dinning options.

looking forward to seeing the pictures from the new years events.

 Marv, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Just know that her pain and suffering is now over. She will always be with you in your heart.

Thanks everyone! I have had so many messages today and I hope you all realize that every one of them is a huge comfort! I made it safely to my Dad's house. The hard part is going to be tomorrow helping make all the plans and get everything arranged at the funeral home. I miss all of you guys will think about all of your outpouring of support during the tough times the next few days!

I'm sorry, Marv! Just remember that she's happy - and back to herself - now, and in a better place. That helped me get through my grandma's passing.

The funeral and all the decisions that come with it can be tough. I hope you and your dad are able to do it without too much stress. Make it a time to remember all the funny and amazing things she did - it'll be easier to deal with. We'll continue to pray for you, and for your dad, that you find peace in knowing that your mom is at peace.

So sorry for your loss. My father just passed away 3wks ago and I know exactly what you are going through. I am so sad for my Mom and she misses him so much as I am sure your Dad will miss your Mom. We were thinking of taking the kids to Disney in Sept or October but with the death of my father we decided to hold off until December. Hopefully a trip to Disney will help with the Christmas spirit this year.

Take it one day at a time and just try to remember all the good times you had with your Mom.

Thanks Jen. All of those thoughts, and memories and her struggles being over for her were definitely what helped get through everything, and also the thoughts and prayers and support of so many friends and family, including on the DIS.

Thanks so much! I am also sorry to hear of your Father's passing. It is indeed a tough time, and also a time of relief that her struggles are behind her. When are you going on your trip in December? We will be there a few days after Christmas through New Years.

Marvin, I just read your posts now (I was on vacation and away from the DIS). I am so sorry to hear about your mother. I am sending prayers for her and your family, especially for your father. I understand how difficult it must be for him to be on his own after such a long time together.

My grandmother had Alzheimer's as well and I understand how sad it is to see a persons personality vanishing due to that disease. I hope it can be some comfort for you to know that your mother is at a better place now and that she isn't suffering anymore.

Thanks so much Magdalene! The fact that my Mom is in a better place now, and free of her earthly burdens is what made it easier to get through her loss. That, and all the thoughts and prayers from a lot of wonderful people.

Yes, it is very tough to see how Alzheimer's takes a person down. The last few times I got to visit her, that definitely wasn't "my Mom" I was visiting. She was always full of energy and laughter, and that is the woman I will always remember.

We spent lots of time crying at her loss, but many more hours remembering and laughing about the good times we had with her.

I'm finally up to speed.

I'm so sorry for you and your family. Your mother is in a better place but I know it will be very hard for your Dad. My thoughts and prayers will be you and your family. Death is never easy. I hope your Dad's memories of the good times before your Mom took ill help to ease his pain.

Marvin, I have some good news for you: It appears that the Le Cellier rumor was partly true, BUT it won't switch over to two credits until March 1st! :cool1: And then it will only require two credits for dinner, not for lunch.

So your Le Cellier meal for your Christmas trip ought to work out!:banana:

I neglected to give you a suitable :welcome: KATODAYO! I'm hoping our December trip will also help with the Christmas spirit!

Thanks so much! Yes, we had a lot of conversations and laughs about so many great memories with my Mom! :) Those definitely helped us get through the past few days. She will be missed, but there are so many wonderful memories that will keep us smiling and laughing like she always did.

:cheer2: :cheer2: That's great news Magdalene! I hadn't heard that yet. I thought it would be odd that they could make that change when people already had ADRs. I figured they would have to put it out in the future some time so people would know of the change when they booked it. Once again, Disney did the right thing I think!:thumbsup2

Oh, good - that way I can still go at lunch whenever we get down there again! :cool1:

Yeah, will have to file that info away for the future. I've got a feeling lunch ressies are going to get a lot more difficult to book in the future!

I'm just glad I don't have to cancel my current ADR since that is the one I was really trying to get since we haven't been there before!:yay:

Trying a glennbo trick here to bump the thread and allow my next update to be at the top of the next page....... Let's see if the young one has learned correctly from the old master!!!! ;)

Not much activity this weekend on the DIS since it was a tax free shopping weekend for getting ready to send everyone back to school. Lots to get done before next weekend when we take DS17 off for his freshman year of college.

Amazing the difference in things kids have to have these days to survive college compared to when I could pile all of my clothes and a few linens and towels in the car and head off with an additional small box of school supplies. Now they can't survive without their own computer with a huge flat panel monitor, printer, printer supplies and that essential graphing calculater for calculus class on top of everything to set up their room and have all of the necessary clothes to survive and fit in.:rolleyes1 It is a far cry from having my typewriter, some white out, and a slide rule (just kidding, but a basic calculator was all you needed then.)

Then we still had to get all of the school supplies for DS13, and all of the stuff DW needed to stock her room for the year. This is me checking for money in my pockets when we got everything done. :confused3 At least there was a little bit of money in the budget this year from the school system to cover some of the supplies for the teachers and we'll get a little of that back. :)

There was still a little time this weekend to take care of a much needed Disney task. We are planning another trip to WDW right after school lets out next June, hoping that DS21 will not have to report to the Navy that quickly when he graduates and we will be able to take one more family trip together before they own him for five years. He is doubtful it will happen, but I wanted to give us the best possible chance if it can.

I tried to book a Value 1-BDR Villa at AKL-Jambo House first, but unfortunately I waited too long for it to be available the whole trip.:guilty: We hate to move during our DVC stays because we feel like it just takes too much time away from what we are there to enjoy, and is too much of a hassle unpacking, packing, and unpacking again. :headache:

So for now I was able to book a 1-BDR Standard Villa at AKL-Kidani (our home DVC resort) for June 4-13, 2011. :cool1: It may not end up being our final choice, but for now we have a place that will hold all 5 of us if DS21 does eventually get to go with us. As we get closer to the trip, if it looks like he won't be able to go, I may try and see if OKW is available and move our reservation there for a change of pace and the larger space in the 1-BDR. :thumbsup2

The good news is we have another trip scheduled, and I have lots more planning I get to do! Of course, I need to refocus on this trip and start firming up all the plans so we get the most out of it, just in case it is our last for a while with all five of us together!!!

How awesome must it be to have two trips in the pipeline?!

I wish Disney would put sleeper chairs in all of the DVC resorts that don't already have them and increase the occupancy by 1. If someone reads your post who doesn't know the occupancy levels of the resorts they'd get confused when you say if your son doesn't come (ie. you have 4 people instead of 5) you may change to OKW to get a bigger suite. But yep, that's the case....bigger suite, lower occupancy. :confused3 I'd like to try out other resorts too, but with 5 in our family it's going to cost us a lot more points-wise to go to a 2-bedroom.

Just an FYI about rooms and sizes and 5 instead of 4. When we did our first "official" DVC trip to WDW in 2008, by the time I called there were only a couple choices available for our dates. One of those was OKW. I explained to MS that we had 5 people in our group and she informed me that we could put 5 people in a 1-BR at OKW, but we would have to take care of the bedding ourselves. I took a cot for DS13 (11 at the time) to sleep on, but he didn't want to use it. Instead, he took the cushions off the couch, lined them up on the floor, and slept on those. There was plenty of space.

You can read about it and see some pictures in my OKW trip report in my siggie if that will help you out. I did it live while I was there. We really enjoyed the resort. For the period we are staying next summer, a 1
BR at OKW will actually be ONE point less for the entire stay than the 1BR at Kidani. I thought that was an interesting difference over a 9 night stay!!! :confused3

sweet on the new trip plans, and hopefully glenn learned something from you.

we all know he needs some advice every now and then.

I don't think the DIS allows enough posts in any given thread to give Glenn all the advice he needs..........

It would take a number of sequential threads, like another Liesa PTR!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
