Christmas Gift Ideas for Mentally Challenged Adults

Another thought on the picture frame idea. Why not take a group photo? and she could be in it. Then put that in the frames she makes. They probably would like a photo of their "friends"Oh and it would be a way for them show off their friends to their family.

Great idea!

Hats, scarves, slippers, T-shirts, sweatshirts, CD's, DVD's, coffee mugs, big plastic mugs, warm socks in fun colors, and inexpensive knock off "Croc's" are all things that my clients and residents have loved over the years.

Your daughter is very sweet and caring young woman. Anything she gives as a gift will be treasured and appreciated.

Another crafty-type thing that might work and is personalized would be door-hangers. Your DD could buy either the foam ones or (IIRC) wooden ones in multi-packs and then add their names using self-adhesive foam or wood letters and maybe a couple of little self-adhesive icons to each one, maybe different things that each person likes (baseball, music, stuff like that). I know they carry these things at Hobby Lobby year-round and I'm pretty sure they do at Michael's, too. Good luck!

I know you said that she didn't want to give beanies out again this year but , I personally think a stuff animal of any kind would be a great gift, dollar store has plenty of them and even if she weren't around next year to give again anyone could go out to the dollar store and buy again if they wanted too. My dd is special needs and her nurse 3 years ago gave her a teddy bear and it was holding a cardboard heart that she made and it say how special she was, well needless to say to this day the teddy is still on her bed and she loves it. You probably have enough stuffed animals laying around even if you didn't go to the dollar store, just getting something, anything is fun. Or even a photo album that they can start putting pictures in.

God bless you and you caring daughter!

My uncle is mentally challenged and every year it's a pleasure to give him a Christmas gift because of the joy it brings him!! No matter how small!

I totally agree with the personalized gifts, I get lots from www.walterdrake.com They have a wide array of personalized items for Christmas, and everyone loves something with their name on it! ;)

Good for you! My son has a big heart for the handicaple, too... it's a part of him that I truly admire. :thumbsup2

I went to that website and can't find anything other than packaging and trays. :confused3 Not that they wouldn't make lovely gifts. ;)

I don't know if she's up for a huge project (I'm thinking the number of people) but Michael's craft stores have these little cardboard trinket boxes that come in different shapes that are great for decorating- I don't know if the people she's thinking of would have a need for something like that, but sometimes having a little treasure box to put doodads in is handy. The nice thing about them is you can go as simple or elaborate as you want with the decorating. I thought of them because in our kitchen I did our light and electrical plates over with a collage of pictures I liked from magazines/catalogs and sealed it with modpodge. The switchplates wouldn't be practical for them but the boxes might.

Not sure if this would work but what about her personalizing a plastic cup with their name on it and adding a tooth brush, some toothpaste and maybe a magic towel ( the ones that expand when they get wet?)

That sounds nice. I like this one!

Another easy idea that would be relatively inexpensive is one of those scarves made from a 1/4 yard piece of polarfleece. She could pick colors or patterns that would appeal to the residents and then just snip the fringe on the ends.
